(1/3)I work here for 6 months and it's probably the worse warehouse job I've ever been.
I work in the Packing Department. In this department we initially have what we call lines, and in those lines we work on different bread with different packing styles and quantities, different boxes to identify which bread is it, and these bread would be sent to different locations. We basically have a machine that packs the bread into the plastic and then we manually put them in the boxes to be ready for those in shipping and receiving. We also have a machine that makes the boxes but we have to manually put the divider into the boxes whenever it's made and put the unfolded into the folding machine that way we don't do it manually. We have a rotation system where each hour you are put in a different spot depending on the order, for example at 2:00PM I would start at index, which is basically sorting the bread, making sure it's not upside down or looks decent, and then at 3:00PM I would switch over to packing, where I would manually put the bread packages into the boxes. But here are some of the experience/reasons why I hate and don't recommend this job.
1. LINE LEADERS SUCK
This is a fast pacing job. The bread DOES NOT STOP COMING. You have to constantly pack, make sure the machine is full of unfolded boxes, and sort out the bread. I was at Line 3 and line 3 is much more difficult than the other 2 lines (we have 3 lines in total) I was at the position where I would have to put the dividers into the boxes which is probably the most easiest position. HOWEVER, the person who was supposed to be putting the unfolded boxes into the machine was no where to be find (we call this position 'pulling') but it's not something I'm worried about because usually the machine is always full of boxes and I could take a little time to put more in if my puller isn't there, no big deal, but the tape RAN OUT, (the tape to supposedly under the machine and only tapes down bottom, the puller is responsible to watch it and make sure it doesn't run out) and that's something that'll take a lot of time to fix and REMEMBER I CANNOT STOP. So I turn to the one person that'll always help out, the Line Leader. The line leader is essentially someone who is in charge of the line, they're not exactly supervisor but more like below them, if machine breaks down, they're responsible to fix, if the bread is messed up, they're responsible for it. I call out the line leader and scream out "TAPE, TAPE" so need to remind you. YOU NEED TO WORK FAST. You know what this guy did? He look at me for a second and then slowly made his way to me. EXCUSE THE F OUT OF ME??!! I AM STRUGGLING TO KEEP THESE BOXES MOVING AND MAKING SURE THE ONES WHO IS PACKING HAS BOXES AND YOU WANNA SLOWLY AND ON PURPOSE TOO, TO COME HELP ME?? Now, maybe he didn't knew I was talking to him because he probably thought the puller was still there, but here's the thing, I CALLED OUT HIS NAME TOO. Piece of F ING SHI. Fun fact, he has been there less than a year and they made him line leader, why? Because he's Hispanic. I know people who've been there for 7 years, no promotion, no raise. (1/3)) read more
