It was our first time in these parts, (Jul 2026), so every mountain was new, every rippling river. Big Sky itself was another thing. It's not rustic. It's a resort town. There was a theater putting on well-known productions. There are guides to show you everywhere and everything Montana. The center of this unincorporated town includes some upscale restaurants and shops among those more low-key. The place struck us as rather expensive, and there are several celebrities with summer homes here. But keep in mind we spent less than an hour here. We posed at sculptures. We bought coffee, sandwiches, candy, and souvenirs. If we had time (and enough nerve), we would've taken the fast $70 gondola to the glass-walled Kirkliff Observatory at 11,000 feet for the 360-degree views across Yellowstone, the Tetons, and more than ten mountain ranges. And folks say the hiking trails are amazing. Next time, we'll make the time for all that.
