Jordan, his occupational therapist, shows endless patience, encouragement, and compassion as my dad adjusts to major life changes. The residents were the most uplifted in Spirit that I've ever seen at a convalescent, rehab, or nursing center. All the care staff (save one) I felt to be thoughtful, caring, respectful, and professional. They have activities for the residents that keep them engaged and lively, there's things going on, there's LIFE going on. Highland is clean, respectful, peaceful and I recommend this skilled nursing center without hesitate as often as I have the opportunity whether private pay, Medicare or Medicaid. I…read moreautomatically think more on the negative side because it is a skilled facility for end of life and I have seen too many nursing homes/rehab facilities, etc that have/had no business being in business. I know the Whatcom Hospice House is not a nursing home - but I hadn't any past experience with a Hospice facility. It was a complete shocker walking in their front doors. It was very beautiful, very warm, and very inviting. The employees were so polite, caring, and there every step of the way through this last journey for our Mom. The facility is very clean and has "NO" fowl odor that you would normally smell in the other facilities I mentioned above. It was clean top to bottom and side to side. Beautiful wood floors, fountains in the back yards of the rooms with benches to sit and enjoy the water, to smiles walking down the hallways as you pass the employees. This is a game changer for anyone like me that has doubts. I want to let each and everyone of you reading this know that our family would put any other family members that needed this care in the Whatcom Hospice House without question or doubt. I give them my 100% support and endorsement for being one of the BEST medical/care facilities I have ever seen. You all have knocked it out of the park. Unfortunately there is no ZERO ,definitely ,…read more I complain about the extreme cold weather in room number 10 ( as there was a drop in the temperature and that is due to: 1- horrible metal doors & big window on the garden ,which all staff mentioned that issue EXITED before . 2- air vent of your disgusting air condition- directly on the head of the patient . 3-poor maintenance temperature panel that you can't increase the temperature or even turn it off .. 4-cracks around the broken rubber frame around the metal door . your staff changed our room to 12 & I changed the location of the bed to avoid the air vent and I slept next to my beloved poor mother on the reclining chair but unfortunately ,it was the worse ever experience I have ever had . Even I am healthy person ,but I was freeze the whole night even I had legging and trouser and I put scarf on my mother and I. All your staff without exceptions ,confirmed that it is like this and they have been mentioning it to their management without any single respond as the building is very old . All these information affected me badly to the extend that I believe that it is the right place to kill the people faster than nature .My mother's fingers were bluish and they confirmed it is normal because she is dying while I had to put my gloves for her and covered her with more blankets . I wanted to buy on Saturday DEC 27 ,two heater to avoid this freezing condition in the room ,but they denied it because it is the week-end and there must be someone to approved it . As I felt absolutely helpless to my poor beloved mother ,I only covered & sealed the metal door and covered the window with blankets but it hardly reduced the freezing air inside the room ( as it was -3 degrees outside and both of us had to struggle with your extremely poor living condition in this Peachealth hospice Today I decided to Cc all emails on the website and I wrote YOUR president and vice president name on top ,in case there is some one who maybe caring about that issue which definitely will have a tremendous impacts on your reputations ,I won't spare any efforts to write it on website to aware others & I will keep telling people about what we had been suffering from this COMFORT place . I highly advise everyone in power to change this horrible conditions because no one knows ,maybe one of you will be in the same place sooner or later or one of your beloved parents ,son or daughter in the same place . I have had a few elderly neighbors stay here over the years. One of them for just a short stay and…read morethe others for longer stays or had moved in there. Each time I went to visit I found their accommodations to be professional, friendly and the care specialized to each resident, and you can tell the people are truly invested in the care of the residents. I was also invited to stay for lunch a few times. It was good, but fairly average as long-term and skilled nursing care facilities go. They have a dedicated room for physical therapy and will be honest with their assessments for future and appropriate placement in one of their specialized wings. I observed one neighbor in the PT room and the staff was very friendly, yet serious about the help they were providing. Sadly, one of my neighbors passed away there and she had said if she had to end up somewhere other than her home, it would be at Mt. Baker Care Center.

I'm unsure why there are poor reviews here. I imagine they have not had to suffer when there was nothing, no help, no options for those of us dependent on IV treatment. A nursing home or hospice. Being home, able to try for a quality of life has, I believe, extended my life. I was slotted for hospice, but with appropriate care, I found dignity and a quality of life at home worth fighting for. I'm forever grateful.
