They work with customers to find the best deals, explain problems your car may have (and show you the problem), and get you on your way as quickly (but safely) as possible. The rapport between the owners and customer demonstrates the roots Kar Kare has in the community and the appreciation the owners have for their customers. For example, this morning I went in to get four new tires and brakes. I was in and out in just over and hour. I was treated fair and kindly. And all my questions were answered. Which brings up another positive - you never feel like you've asked a dumb question and are never talked down to by the folks at Kar Kare. They're just good people. On a side note: My grandfather, who passed away in 2010 at 93, thought highly of Kar Kare. He felt they were one of the few remaining businesses that treated people right. He took his cars there for years and trusted no one else. He often spoke of a time when he was about 90 and need air in his tires. He took his 2002 Taurus to Kar Kare, which was just down the road. The owner, Charlie, told him that the tires were dry-rotting. Charlie advised him to stay off the road and get four new tires. In his 80s my grandfather barely drove beyond 5 miles of home so the tires looked good, but were rotting inside. My grandfather told Charlie he needed to go home and get his checkbook. Charlie told my grandfather, a long-time customer, "That's not safe. Let's get the new tires on. Then you go home, get your checkbook, and come back to pay." That's exactly what happened. My grandfather was so touched that Charlie and Kar Kare were taking "such good care of an old man like me." For that act of kindness toward my grandfather, I'll always be a loyal Kar Kare customer as well.

I live in downtown Columbia, and was apprehensive to go barreling down 26 with a soft tire, but had read such good things about Frank's that I decided to risk it. When I showed up, it was about 11.30 am and the place looked hoppin', so much so that I took what appeared to be one of the last free parking spots. Since I didn't have an appointment, I was afraid this would mean I would spend most of my afternoon waiting. When I walked in, I was immediately spoken to, and given a chance to explain my situation. The man I talked to was very polite, took my key and invited me to have a seat and wait while they checked it out. The waiting area had these neat flashy bench seats from some kind of old car. The lounge area was spacious, filled with reading material and even had a tv. I only got through about half of an episode of NCIS before the same nice man was tapping me on the shoulder and handing me back my keys. "It's all ready to go!" I was surprised at how quickly the problem had been assessed and solved. When I went to the register to pay, he smiled and motioned me on. "Don't worry about it." I stood there in total shock and said thanks, while he wished me a nice rest of the day. When I stepped outside, my car was waiting for me with a nice newly plumped tire. I hope the nice man at the front desk whose name I don't know (is it Frank?) reads this review and knows how much I appreciate his generosity. Less than 10 minutes after leaving, my rear driver's side tire had dropped to 7 PSI. I refilled it to drive back, but the store had already closed for the day. The next morning, the tire was completely flat. Fortunately, my stepfather suspected something was off and took my vehicle back to Mavis. What we found was absolutely unacceptable: * The "new" tires were actually used tires. * The technicians had failed to install the rubber seals, which caused the air to leak. * They broke my original Toyota sensor and replaced it with a cheap knockoff sensor to hide the issue from my vehicle's system. This is blatant deceptive and unethical business behavior. If my stepfather hadn't stepped in, I would have been driving on unsafe tires that I was told were brand new. Do not trust this shop -- especially if you are a woman. It's clear they thought they could take advantage of me, and I'm grateful we caught it before it caused a serious problem or a fatal car accident. Mavis should be held accountable for this type of fraudulent service. I'll be filing a complaint with corporate and the BBB to ensure no one else has to deal with this.
