The store is small, quaint, cozy, and right off the highway entering/leaving Alamosa. We generally purchase honey from a local market in Denver, forget the refined weird store stuff, right here in the valley is where we've found the best honey the last few times and decided to stop in a new place instead of buying off the street in La Jara. Anyhow, we walk in, never greeted, and head towards the small selection of honey that was available. The guy (manager) working that weekend must've rolled over to the wrong side of the bed in the middle of the night and fallen off because geez was he rude! We walked in and he coldly asked us if we were looking for honey - well, DUH, that's why were here I thought. We asked 2 questions while admiring the variety while he kept boxing up his shipment, not once coming over to help, so I stopped - it was no use, our questions seemed to pester him. They do offer a range of honey from seasonal honey, clover honey, huajillo honey, honeycomb etc, and I just wanted plain ol' honey, nothing fancy and some honeycomb. I asked which jar was the plain honey and he said they're the quart jars, I pointed to a quart jar and asked if this was it because it wasn't labeled and without looking over, he said, "well is that a quart?!?" Ok, jerk, I see it's a quart, but you can't walk 2 steps to help? Anyhow, we grab it and we walk the 2 steps to the register and my DH asks if the honey is made here, the guy says rudely, "the bees make the honey", well, we know that jerkwad, but he knew what my DH meant, so DH rephrased the question and asked if it was extracted here or elsewhere. Heck if we know, we were just curious - the bee colonies could be in the back yard or something. So finally, I throw in a remark and say "Ya know, we know it's Sunday, and although it's 10am, we all may still be sleepy, but could you just lighten up a bit ok?!?" I guess he realized he was being a total asshole and lightened up a bit by trying to show us his new salve recipe. By that time I just wanted to pay for my quart of plain honey and hit the road and not look back. Needless to say, I left behind the honeycomb because I no longer wanted to spend more money there and we definitely won't be back. Next time we'll just buy it from the gal that sells it off the road in La Jara. We always get a smile and a thank you when we leave. Oh, and I think the place needs a name change to Grumpa's Honey. Because that's who you'll get when you walk in the door.

Not bizarrely expensive. Here's a few items we bought: - Butter pecan ice cream tub $4.59 - Russet potatoes (3-lbs) $1.99 - Bbq sauce $1.59 The lady who checked us out was friendly and funny. Large, "seedless" watermelons were on sale $4.98 each. They and the rest of the produce looked decent. I was able to slake my thirst that warm afternoon with some good bottles sweet tea out of Amarillo, TX, called Panhandle Pure ($1.09). Western Union is available here. There used to be a lady who would sell her homemade tamales here out of her car. I sure wish she would come back!

The store has everything you need grocery wise, including the bonus of lots of Polish & East European items: eg. cherrys for your Manhattans and sausage sandwiches for your mountain climbing. There is also an excellent wine and European beer selection. We departed with Pierogies for our dinner and a bottle of Sam Smith's Chocolate Stout. Check out the blackboard outside for Marks Muffin of the Day. And Mr. Guy Fieri is also a fan. In short, you just don't expect such a cosmopolitan selection in the midst of a small town/village in S. There are…read morea number of local organic farmers selling produce, and there are some farmers selling pork, beef, and chicken. The selection is good, and the quality is quite good. I do most of my grocery shopping here. I also buy my holiday gifts here. There are a number of crafters and artisans selling knitting, woven goods, ceramics, Native American arts and crafts, and redwood items (boxes, clocks, toys, planters). You can also get, from time to time, canned tuna, smoked tuna, and smoked salmon. The tuna vendor has some of the most delicious tuna I've had. Don't forget the bakeries selling fresh bread and pastries, community services with info, plant nurseries, and Vita Cucina's soups and shortcake. Be sure to sample the pesto (cilantro-almond or traditional basil) from the Dutch Gardener's booth--it's a local favorite. It's a great place to do your shopping, support the community, and see neighbors. It's one of the best things in Crescent City.

Since moving to the San Luis Valley, Sam's Club is not accessible to me anymore (unless I drive 2-1/2 hours to Pueblo), so I looked into Valley Meat. The price of their beef short ribs is actually comparable, if not less expensive. I've also bought pork belly, and they cut them to however I want them. Meats that are not available at Walmart, City Market or Safeway, I buy them at the Valley Meat Market. Recently, I bought ox tail there. I have two large German Shepherd dogs. I buy quartered raw femur bones regularly at Valley Meat with prices that do not break the bank. My dogs love them!!! I have to mention that the folks at the meat market are also very nice and friendly. As soon as you walk in, someone will immediately help you. If you do not like to wait, give them a call and place your order. Just let them know when you want to pick up, they'll have your order ready for you. Try them...they have excellent fresh meat!!!

The one-way streets in the area are a bit funky, but manageable. It's conveniently located across the street from Walgreens & Safeway, so what they don't have inside this place will most likely be available at the other two. There is ample parking out front or on the side. They even have a drive-thru. When my significant other and I stopped here on 6/7/2023, we met the friendliest cashier with a great personality. In such a short time, we learned about several of their usual customers -- they like to get there bright and early -- sometimes before this cashier does at 8AM! Lol.
