This shop is amazing! After having a falling out at my previous shop I thought I wasn't going to connect with another shop. I walked into High Street and the guys were nothing but kind from Chris at the front desk to Charlie 'Chuck' who I spoke with about getting some work done. Charlie and I hit it off immediately he's been in the game only 4 years and his work is amazing! He's the kindest guy I have ever worked with and I am grateful that he is my go to guy for my personal tattoos. Charlie taught me the ins and outs of the tattoo industry what I really respect. One that stuck out to me the most was 'Shop Loyalty' which means yes I get most of my tattoos done by Charlie but it's perfectly ok getting other work done by other guys within High Street. They are all so talented! Why limit yourself? One of my favorite things about Charlie is not only does he read my mind with what I want done (haha) but that he is a tattooer and will tattoo out of his wheelhouse and tattoo most anything to make someone's day. I highly recommend this shop to anyone! Please no that for first timers or someone new to tattoo's that you're going to not just 'walk in' and get a tattoo in minutes - you could! But most likely will be working with the artist on what you want that takes time - so know that getting a tattoo is a process and enjoy hanging around the shop! I'd like to say I try to see the best in every situation, however my personal experience here is one I will learn from and avoid in the future. I was traveling through town and was a walk in. Initially, I felt welcomed... 2 of the 4 scheduled artists called in sick yesterday, so Jeremy was the only artist available. I had a wait of about 2 hours which was no biggie. So I went and researched his art and credentials. I should've gone with my gut. Ironically, I chose this particular tattoo to symbolize following my intuition and listening to my inner truth, keeping an open mind. So I will wear this as a vivid reminder to never stray away from what I feel is right. I felt a bit objectified and uncomfortable with some of the comments he made to me, a bit derogatory and rude to be frank. Not to mention he went on and on during MY session, judging and criticizing the previous young girl who he had just tattooed before me. That showed his true character. Looking back I should've spoken up and walked out, as a fellow woman and someone with self respect. I wish I could say the tattoo made the experience worth it, but unfortunately I can't. I felt that he rushed through the process and was more focused on the chicken he was going to eat once he completed my tattoo.. I will now need to touch it up once it heals as the lines are wobbly and I am not pleased with the outcome. It's not the end of the world and it can be fixed, I would just recommend that you are confident with your artist and feel comfortable. Jeremy, I wish you well and can hope that you're more aware of how you speak of your customers and be more kind. We're all human and just doing our best! I'm sure there are other wonderful artists here, as it's a cool shop. Lesson learned. read more

Very professional and friendly. I'm not covered in tattoos. I have one and wanted another. Something small, and meaningful to me. Ii created a design for the inside of my left wrist. I don't get intimidated by tattoo covered people, but sometimes feel like they think my itty-bitty swirl is silly. Well, i didn't get that feeling at High Street Tattoo. They welcome everyone and every design. I was recommended to Gio, but we only services the 'high-end or $500 tattoos. What I wanted was a mere $100. Gio offered me Brett. Thanks Gio! Brett is awesome! Not only is he so stinkin' cute, but he's patient and understanding when it comes to novices. I now think my design is a little larger than what I originally anticipated, but in all fairness, I did get the drawn up version in advance. I was able to walk in one night to get a little touch up. No appointment necessary, and no additional charge. It was seriously like adding 3 extra lines, a centimeter each. I tipped him anyway. read more

J-bo James Knocked my tattoo out of the park. He put a Grim Reaper on my forearm and made a seamless connection to two previous tattoos. He hand drew the design on my arm and I could not be more happy with the final product. The tattoo he did makes me like my other tattoos more than I already did. I just drove over an hour to this tattoo shop because I used to live in this area and always heard it was great, or used to be. I walked-in to check out the flash sheets and I wanted to get a tattoo today only to be told by the manager that she will not let me look at the flash sheets and to find an artist that I like via their website and look at their flash sheets online and schedule an appointment. THERE ARE NO PHOTOS OF THE FLASH SHEETS ONLINE AND THIS IS NOT WHAT "WALK-IN TATTOO" MEANS. WALK-IN MEANS YOU WALK IN AND LEAVE WITH A TATTOO. THEIR WEBSITE IS NOT UPDATED, DOESN'T HAVE A GALLERY FOR FLASH SHEETS AND STILL ADVERTISES THAT WALK-INS ARE WELCOME WHEN THEY ARE NOT. I just drove an hour here to be pushed out the door as fast as possible by a greasy, rude manager. and for some reason, this tattoo shop advertises that "walk-ins" are welcome. High St. Tattoo was voted the best tattoo shop in Columbus for several years running. It was home to a number of artists who worked at Stained Skin prior to Durb selling the shop so the reputation sort of followed the artists. Not too long ago most of the artists who earned the shop that reputation left to open their own competing studio. The artist who worked on me at High St., Scott Santee, was among those that left. My experience there was a very good one. Scott drew up a great design suited to my specifications and didn't make even the slightest hint of a fuss when he had to redraw it a few times to get it just right. Post exodus I'm not sure how well the shop is doing, and I've never particularly cared for owner Giovanni's style, but he has a good reputation. Furthermore, all the open spots left room for one of tattoo's more well known names, Gunnar, to move in. He lived in Cali for a while, where he made a big name for himself tattooing celebrity musicians and doing album art for A New Found Glory, but moved back to Columbus to be near his daughters this year. I got tattooed by Gunnar back in 03, and he was great. I've been told he can be a little impatient these days, and kind of hates getting pigeonholed into the art he's known for, but that's all hearsay. My tattoo by him has been in magazines and should have won him a trophy at Hell City, but I partied too hard the night before and slept through it. Sorry Gunnar! read more

This is not your typical, flash on the wall, ink 'em and get 'em out, tattoo shop. Gio has done a great job of choosing talented artist and creating a professional, creative environment for them to work in. It shows that he takes his profession seriously and cares about the clientele his shop generates. You can tell he expects everyone that works for him to do the same. I started getting tattooed by Gunnar over the summer and I really enjoy this shop. Gunnar is notoriously difficult to get a hold of because he travels frequently and I was having a hard time reaching him. The guys at the shop were great. They were able to call him on his cell and get everything straightened out for me. Even though I wasn't getting tattooed by any of them they went out of their way to help me and I really appreciated it. Once I did get in to get tattooed, everyone that was there was very friendly, easy to talk with and (wether on purpose or not) very entertaining :) Which, to me, is very important. If your going to be sitting in that chair for 5+ hours, in some degree of pain, surrounded by staff, you definitely want to feel comfortable in the atmosphere with the people that you're with. Even though I'm not as familiar with the other artist I do not hesitate to recommend this shop to anybody that ask me where they should go. I know that even once my sleeve is completed by Gunnar I will be back to check out the other artist! :) read more

After years of searching for the perfect artist to start my sleeves, I landed at High St Tattoo by way of a friend's referral. Biggs did my artwork, we was extremely thorough and made sure to double and triple check everything to make sure it was exactly what I wanted. He was quick, the tattoo was virtually painless, and my healing has been a breeze! Best line work I've ever seen! Jimbo that handles all the booking and customer service is the man. He worked with me to get me on the schedule so that I could get my work done on my birthday which was a very busy Saturday for the shop. All in all, every artist is great, cool to talk to, and take great pride in the fact that people come to them to put their artwork on their bodies to show off for the rest of their lives. I have had two tattoos done by Haley at HST and it has been such an awesome experience. Not only is she super talented she's as nice as can be and it's so clear she cares about her work. She can take your idea and run with it and make it better than you even imagined! I wouldn't go to anyone else. Everyone else in the shop is great too. They're all super friendly and funny and it makes the long sittings a lot less boring. The shop is clean and there is always great artwork on the wall to look at. They always have candy and water and even orange juice when you go in for an appointment and a really hilarious selection of movies on the TV. I would highly recommend Haley (or any of the HST artists really) to anyone looking to get a tattoo. Well, my tattoo guy, Joey AKA Knuckles, has since moved away, so I don't know that I'll be going back to HST, but I did have really excellent experiences there. I have two large tattoos from High Street (er, see my pics if you're interested). The first was a tribute tattoo to my Pepere (granddad, for all you non-Quebecoise), which I had some vague idea about for - a traditional heart with a banner - but wanted a creative and personal touch. Knuckles drew up a really cool design that was traditional but more flowey- and he actually did my tattoo that same night. I definitely wanted him to do my next tattoo, but was conflicted, since the significance of it was geographically-specific (I wanted 207, which is Maine's only area code). I ended up having a girl in Portland do it, and totally hated it because it wasn't creative or colorful - she basically took what I'd drawn (i am NOT an artist) and tattooed it to me. I was ambivalent when she was doing it, and regretted it until I had Knuckles work with it and incorporate it into a larger piece. So, shortly after, I went to see Mr. Joey Knuckles and asked what sort of Maine things he thought he could do with my arm to cover up or incorporate the 207 - we ended up coming up with the Maine state seal together - and even though he pretty much did exactly what the seal is, you can tell that his personal touch and flourishes are there. He did a particularly good job making the 207 part of the piece, and fixed the coloring and incorporated blueberry vines into the seal. I LOVE IT. Although Knuckles moved to Philly, I know the work here is solid and quality, and I'd recommend going here or to Billy Hill at Envy, who is doing my next piece and whose work is outstanding. The one downfall of HST, however, is that it's pretty pricey - but in the end, you get what you pay for. And for something like tattoos, that's insanely important. read more

Since it was my first tattoo, I was very nervous but they were all very nice and explained the process completely. They also helped me make a decision about what I should get (a longer note from my Nana who passed away recently in her handwriting or just "Nana" in her handwriting). My first tattoo is something I ended up absolutely loving. I loved the design and the personal touch the artist put on it . However, I felt like it could be more and I wanted to find a tattoo parlor that would appreciate my first design and be able to work with it. High Street Tattoo ended up being a perfect choice for me. They only provide custom designs, so I knew that my tattoo would get the right attention. As per a friend's recommendation, I chose to make my appointment with Cary, a former CCAD student, who did a fantastic job. We met a few times prior to the final session and he worked with my first tattoo and my ideas for adding to it . He put in some of his own suggestions and I was very happy with the final turnout. Plus, he was relatively fast and light when using the needle, which was much appreciated on my end. I have heard that all the artists are very good, some nationally recognized, and if I decide to endure the pain once more, I would love to come back and talk with somebody else here. read more

I got tattooed by Biggs this past Saturday. I went to him over at Envy but I only got script then. I liked that he tattooed differently. He didn't use the trace paper to tattoo. He likes to draw it on the person so that it fits to their body. No he doesn't free hand. He draws it on you and then tattoos it. So he drew the tattoo on and let me look at the design. It looked good to me so he started to tattoo it. The design was cool but the shading, OMG the shading was awesome!!!!!!! I love love my new ink!!!! I would recommend Biggs to any and everyone!!! He is pricey; however, he is quick, a dope artist, and does a bang up job!!!! I'm not one to sacrifice quality for price, so if you aren't here's where you need to be. He's so dope I'm never getting inked by another person. Now this shop is equally as dope!! It's in a great location...Short North is always awesome!! The place is extremely clean. And the staff...the staff is AWESOME!!!! Everybody was just super chill and friendly. Those are my type of people to be around! So if you're looking to get a tattoo, you need to be here. High street is the first place I ever got tattooed. After getting ridiculous pricing from evolved I tried high street and was blown away by how easy they were to work with, and the quality of the work. I've been tattooed there by Dustin, Drew, and Giovanni and have no complaints in any way. All my work is still bright and vibrant after several years. I've also been very please with the work they've designed for me. I'm not artistic, and I don't want work other people have, but when I bring in drawings and pictures as ideas they can develop awesome tattoos from those. I've recommends high street to everyone I know looking for tattoos and will continue to do so. I've been tattooed a couple other places, but high street will continue to be my favorite. read more

Finally getting around to writing my review! Would've posted it when I actually got the tattoo, but I wanted to see the more-healed product before I made my final judgment. Suffice to say, I'm 100% satisfied! I got two tattoos (one ribcage, one hip) done by Haley, and she did a fantastic job throughout the entire process. Since this was my first tattoo(s), I was a bit apprehensive about the procedure, but Haley assuaged all of my fears! She was very honest and realistic about how the process would feel, and let me take breaks whenever I needed. Even when we were first placing the stencil on, she was very accommodating towards my requests, such as tilting the angle by just a few degrees or moving the tattoo by just a few millimeters. You could tell that my preferences really mattered to her, and she really wanted me to be fully happy with my tattoo. Afterwards, she gave me a bunch of advice on how to care for the tattoo, and the overall healing process was very mild and pleasant. Given the location of the tattoos, they're prone to getting rubbed or scratched (which could lead to holes or lighter splotches on the tattoo), but touch-ups are all free, so I knew I didn't have to freak out in case I accidentally bumped the side of the table or something. Would definitely recommend Haley, her style is bright, bold, and unique, and she has a lovely personality complimented by a wonderful work ethic. read more

I have gone to High Street Tattoo a few times over the past couple of years and I have been very satisfied with the tattoos I have had done by Zak. The atmosphere in the shop is always lively, Zak is always professional, and he always makes sure to put his customers at ease. He is funny and engaging and patient. And I cannot begin to or even say enough about how superb his work is. I've gone in to see Zak 3 times to have work done by him and I'm actually going to be returning again soon to have him add to a piece he designed for me. You can't go wrong coming here!
