Holy cow wow!!! I had to drive to Jefferson City today for work and found High Rise Bakery since it was very close to the Capitol building, (just 4 min walking) and I was starving. I was not expecting it to be as amazing as it was!! IT WAS SO GOOD AHHH. I randomly picked the chicken corn chowder which was the soup of the day (cup for $4). I was expecting Campbell soup level quality --but WOW. It was so so good!!! The soup was darn luxurious. It was creamy and flavorful, with slices of bacon on top and the perfect amount of chicken, cheddar, corn, carrots and potatoes. I know I sound like a crazy person since this is not a very good descriptor and I'm just rattling off the name. But whatever they put in it was incredible. I tried to convince people on the side walk to go in to High Rise because it was just that good. I actually ended up going back to get a second cup of soup for takeout to go. I wish High Rise Bakery was closer to Saint Louis!!! And not 2 hours away! I also had what I believe was a strawberry creme strudel which was also a great texture!!! So yummy. My fiance got a raspberry strudel in the morning and loved it too. Plus they have free WiFi and nice tables! The bathrooms are also very clean. Also great service!!!

The food and service is top tier! My girlfriend and I have been coming here consistently for almost 3 years now... And they decided to raise the prices astronomically! Not just a small percentage increase, but on some items $2. For example, the cinnamon rolls went from $5 to $7 in just one night. Our same coffee order we usually get for $12 and some change is coming out to $16 now. I get wanting to up your prices but this just shows you don't care about your customers/regulars.

Was excited to try this new coffee shop I added to my list about 6 months ago. There is a small menu, but they do it very well. I got the breakfast sandwich and hubs got the chorizo burrito. Both were delicious, and the chorizo was cooked really well and was not greasy! My fav is a Peppermint Mocha at Christmas. Theirs has dark chocolate, marshmallows and crushed peppermints on top.i live the way they did the inside. The original brick, plywood floors and loft for extra seating were great ideas. They have amazing looking pastries and I can attest the blackberry homemade pop tart was delicious. Everyone was great and we had excellent service. Great experience all around.

Good, hip spot in the downtown Jeff City area with great coffee, good breakfast options, and a nice patio to take everything in. We were heading out for a day on the nearby Katy Trail and while breakfast important, coffee might trump it on days like these. Fortunately they had a little taste of home (Messenger Coffee from KC) and the Ethiopian was fantastic. I was going for a vegetarian breakfast and the menu only had avocado toast which was good. It might've had a little too much going on for me (beyond the avocado it also included eggs, cucumbers, beet hummus, and arugula) but overall was good. They were also celebrating Christmas in July for some reason, which meant a decorated apple strudel to cap off the meal -- it was fantastic. The vibe on the patio on a nice summer morning is tough to top, with people flowing in and out, and a nice stretch of downtown to take in. Fun spot that I'd recommend!

What a lucky find! Was biking the Katy Trail and rode into Jefferson City. Stumbled across HRB while cycling past the capitol building. Very good food, especially after not having a good sit-down meal for over a day. Salmon frittata with sour cream and capers was excellent. Fruit on the side was good, too. Not canned pineapple, mind you. But freshly cut. Highly recommended.

Back again Such a refreshing salad... and the watermelon is unimaginably sweet! My go to when I'm in town Although I do wish they had more pork alternatives still great!

Delicious ham, Swiss and gouda with Sriracha aoli and pineapple on side.

Top notch bakery/cafe in the heart of downtown Jeff City. They serve Messenger Coffee so they can't go wrong. I was impressed with the layout, but even though this was recommended as a coffee shop, it is more cafe than coffee shop. The service was spot on. Several people were there at the counter to balance out the flow of people coming in and ordering. The only bad thing to say about this place is the capital hill prices. The prices keep with the motif as the Cafe is called "High Rise," and is located on "High," street, so the prices are high. They had a burrito for $16 and the same price for their breakfast sandwich that was on a croissant. My husband and I split that, and we were quite filled with eating that and having a fruit Danish on the side. He loved his blackberry Danish. I ordered the apple Danish, but what was supposed to be an apple Danish had strawberries instead, so maybe an extra surprise. The Danish was very tasty and with the perfect amount of crisp. The Danish was the only comparable price you'd pay elsewhere at $3.50.

The service was prompt and accommodating. You order at the counter, and if it's take out, you wait by the counter, or if it's dine in, they bring you your food. They even bring your food anywhere outside if you're out there. There's plenty of seating both upstairs and downstairs. It's a cafe-type vibe. The food was delicious. I originally was just going to get the matcha latte, but then I saw avocado toast with a side, and since it comes with prosciutto and I don't eat red meat, I asked if I can have smoked salmon instead, and they said yes! Awesome service includes the fact that I sat on a bench a couple of stores down outside, and someone walked over with an order thinking I might be the customer, and I said no, but the fact that they would have walked down the street like that to get me my food was so nice!

Ran in for a quick coffee to go and tried the campfire latte and a Greek salad from their refrigerated section. The latte was like a fall bonfire in a cup, with a delicious marshmallow at the bottom. The refrigerator had several prepackaged foods- oats, chicken salad, salads, and sandwiches that all looked good. The Greek salad was good, but the toppings to spinach ratio wasn't the best. The employees were super friendly and bubbly. The space was clean, with several seating options, including a nice large patio. Overall, the coffee was great and the salads were convenient and very good.

Very rarely have I had a meal here that didn't live up to my expectations. From Pizza to Burgers and everything in between my sit-down experiences have been really good, with few exceptions. The Brews available have been great as well, although they seemed to jettison the growler promotion awfully fast. In my mind a solid piece like a growler bottle is not only a collectible but it's free advertising since the customer paid for it. I'll keep politicking management to bring it back, but I'm not optimistic. They do serve 32oz Beers in freshly sealed cans (from tap) that are tasty and great competition for other spots closer to home for me, so there's that. Interior decor is stylish and memorable, and the multi-tier design helps sequester the bar area from the restaurant without being obvious in doing so. Bathrooms are eclectically designed and clean. They also have an adjacent spot in the same building for live music (think acoustic or small groups...they currently host things like Blues jams to decent turnout) So, now that the good things that carry the place have been listed, here are the improvements I'd like to see: Host and Hostess quality is all over the place. Ranges from wandering space-cadet kids to courteous young adults that unfortunately have a habit of hosing orders pretty badly. The actual wait staff and bartenders are fairly top notch when you sit down for a meal, so the disparity of quality on to-go orders I can attribute to the person taking the order. Toppings missing, order mixed up and someone else's meal were all experienced on to-go visits. It makes me covet the times in my work week I can sit down and enjoy a meal here (happymeter- near 100%), but obv that can't happen all the time. Unfortunately these are the things that can kill an otherwise great location, and the actual products here are *great*.

I had the duck wontons and they were really good, but honestly couldn't see or taste the duck. The spinach artichoke dip was good! The Philly Potato Skins were super dry even after adding sour cream and some of the spinach dip to it. Could have been an off night, though. Still a cool place.

Sugar Britches Bakery definitely has its ups and downs. Their coffee is amazing, but it's also on…read morethe expensive side. Some of the baked goods are a hit or miss -- I understand they're vegan/alpha-gal friendly, but not all of the pastries taste the best. For example, a large iced vanilla/caramel coffee with cold foam and a muffin cost me about $17.41 , which feels pretty steep, especially when I can go across the street and get better-tasting coffee and pastries for almost half the price. It would also be great if they offered regular pastries or more traditional grab-and-go breakfast items. This suggestion has been made to management several times. Yes, they offer food, but pasta and pizza aren't exactly ideal breakfast options for a coffee shop. To be honest, Jefferson City has several spots that offer better variety and value -- places like Green Leaf Cafe, Eat Smart, and Coffee Zone. If Sugar Britches wants to stay competitive, I'd recommend adjusting their prices and expanding their breakfast options, especially for customers who enjoy good coffee and something quick and tasty to go. My response to the Owner Thank you for taking the time to reply. I do want to clarify that my review was not about misunderstanding your business model -- I'm fully aware that you cater to allergies and dietary restrictions, and I respect that. My feedback was strictly about my personal experience as a paying customer regarding taste, pricing, and the lack of traditional breakfast options. However, the tone of your response came across as dismissive, especially the assumption about whether I "have a food allergy" or not. My review was not an attack on your mission or your customers; it was simply honest feedback about the quality and value I received. All businesses, even niche ones, benefit from constructive criticism. Saying you "have no competition" and implying my opinion is invalid because I may not have an allergy doesn't address the actual concerns I raised. Many customers -- with or without dietary restrictions -- appreciate good service, reasonable pricing, and enjoyable food. That's all I was pointing out. I wish your business the best, and I hope you consider the feedback for future improvements rather than dismissing it. You lost a customer. My apologies but you are not the only place that caters to Gulten Free,Alpha Gal, Organic Eat Smart and Green Leaf Cafe are just amazing, Way better food and way better customers service!
