Susan is a lovely older woman who keeps her 3+ horses on her own on her expanse of land with love and care. She is definitely a bit gruff (as another reviewer mentioned) around the edges. Talked to her on the phone before meeting in person, and she's sweet in her own way and is passionate about her job taking care of horses and making people happy with her rides. Call to make an appointment at least 24 hours in advance, no walk-in's. Two riders at a time. Trail rides happen twice a day (11am and 1pm), lasting about an hour each. Won't be cancelled except in cases of heavy rain/severe weather. $40 per person for the hour. Can park on her property. No bathrooms nearby. Starts from the property and goes through trodden paths through the forest-y areas nearby. Susan provides the basics for getting on/off the horses, going uphill/downhill, and keeping pace. No experience needed. Just respect the horses and follow directions. The trails aren't the most picturesque, more like a neighborhood forestland. We went through narrow dirt trails and crossed a few streets with cars along the way. Wish there were more available slots per day, but I'm glad the horses get their well earned rest and hay after their shifts. Would definitely love to come back! tl;dr call phone to book with Susan from her website, $40 cash per person (as of March 2022) per person for an hour trail ride, no experience needed, 2 riders max, no special clothing needed (maybe no open toe shoes), take a warm bath at home afterwards!

I purchased a little Spanish Arabian named Hawk. I had horses as a child growing up and in the past…read more15 years had gotten away from it while raising a family. So when I purchased Hawk I was so excited to back into horses once again. I thought I had done enough by taking lessons a couple of years before I bought him to prepare myself for having a horse of my own. Although Hawk unfortunately was not as trained as I was told, I still believed he was the horse for me. The timing was really Good for me too. My dad just met Hawk just two days before my dad passed away. Having Hawk in my life at this time was very special and healing. Before I met Ann, Hawk and I while getting to know each other had a bad accident. While out riding early spring some sprinklers came on near us and spooked Hawk which resulted in both of us falling over and my ankle getting was crushed underneath him. After all of this Hawk and I really needed help. I needed to regain my confidence again and Hawk was still pretty green and needed some help as well. Before Ann I had been told by a couple of trainers here in Davis that Hawk may be to much horse for me, and to think of getting a horse more calm, older and experienced. I was devastated. I found Ann searching online in a desperate attempt to find another answer. I found Ann and she really is incredible! She was patient, listened to me and made me feel that with focus, dedication and time Hawk and I were not a wrong match. Ann is so professional. She is honest. Her approach to horse training is kind and assertive. She helped me regain my confidence. Everyday is still work and Hawk and I are doing well, but I feel confident knowing she is always there to help me when I need it. Sense I have been at the barn we're she teaches I have enjoyed watching her train other green horses. She is awesome to watch. Ann has also been giving my daughter riding lessons in hopes one day being able to ride Hawk as well. I highly recommend her to anyone looking for an honest person who really knows horses and has a lot of experience. Ann is really awesome and I am so grateful to have found her. Thank you Ann :)

I'm not too familiar with the whole horse stable/training/riding/etc thing, but this place seems pretty reasonable. It's $70 per client for a one hour Equine Therapy session. They (the client) learns how to take care of a horse, from walking and running it, to cleaning their hooves, to brushing it, to making the horse run laps and eventually riding the horse. It is a pretty cool process and I have learned a lot about horses myself just by showing up. The people that work here are very knowledgeable and helpful. The stables also seem very neat and clean and the horses seem happy enough. Pretty cool place to go if you're into wanting to learn to horseback ride or learn more about horses in general! Cheers!

The issue began to arise when I started needing slightly more complicated things such as bits and blankets. First, I needed a very basic slow twist snaffle, which they did not have. The store in jam packed with all sorts of things, but their selection is old. Then I decided to buy a blanket through them, but they will not allow you to return a blanket no exceptions, no matter what. They also will not allow you to return bits. If any item has ever touched the horse, you cannot return it and that is enough to take my business away from them. As most of you know, when you have horses, sizes are always subjective and you might get a medium sized boot on your horse and find that you need a large. You might get the right sized blanket, but find its too small through the shoulder. All sorts of things can happen with sizing and if you can't return it, well than its not worth me chancing the couple hundred dollars I might spend. I'll take my business to Tack Room, Too or Stroh's.

However, the best part for me is that I was able to trailer my horses there and try on saddles. The one I was originally looking for did not fit, but the staff found me 2 others to try (I needed a gaited saddle which can be hard to find) and one of those was a beautiful fit for my horse, and fit me as well. You can also try on blankets I believe (not 100% positive). They do consignment there, so you can find great prices on used items if you don't have the money to buy it new. You can also bring in your items for them to sell. They have a lot of tack in there, so might take awhile :) They also have new items. I love this place peronally. It is a little cramped, but they are wonderful to work with.
