While on a business trip to MS, I ended up stumbling upon the Hb Lair. To my good fortune, the…read moreplace was fantastic. It was like a little piece of home in the middle of a barren wasteland. AC blows cool, drinks are great, the lounge area is good. I didn't have the juice (house specialty), but I have heard about how good it is. One thing I didn't like was the disco hall (open Sunday-Saturday 10PM - ?) across from the lounge.. not really into that type of "fun" (keeps it from getting 5 stars). If you find yourself in Hattiesburg, check out the Lair!

They are regularly out of various wines, beers, and food items. They have already shrunk the food menu to an unappetizing limited menu and the quality is below the IHG standard. Perhaps instead of remodeling a perfectly good space, IHG should have invested in better menu items, more consistent food preparation, and beverages patrons actually want on the menu. The local patrons meet or outnumber hotel patrons most nights during the week, but repeated requests for better food and alcohol selections are ignored. I just want it to be better. It's one of our only options available in the evening in midtown!

Went to the bar, nice big wooden bar, comfortable seating, lots of cool taps on the wall, with variety of beers.. had a little bit of nostalgia:) Bartender was very friendly, suggested a few things, we got the whole wings in Buffalo and Korean BBQ. We enjoyed them, they are meaty, and flavorful. We watched some football, enjoyed the atmosphere and would stop again if staying in the area!

The lighting is a bit dim for our old eyes but otherwise it has the feel of a pub. We loved that. Our server was very nice and helpful. We ordered the bacon cheddar fries. The fries are like a cottage fries that are then cut into strips. Perfect fry on them. The bacon could have been crispier but great flavor and a good ranch. I had the KPauls pasta. We all enjoyed it. Pasta cooked perfectly al dente. If you love a saucy pasta this isn't for you. It is nice and creamy but not swimming in it. Big plump shrimp that tasted great. Also has chunks of chicken breast and sliced sausage. Uncle Jim got the red beans and rice. Great flavor but barely warm. The catfish is a thicker cut and battered in a coarsely ground corn meal. Aunt Robin had the shrimp and grits. Those were the star of the show. So creamy and incredible flavor. Very generous amount of nice sized shrimp. Mike had the Keg Stand burger. He requested the sauce on the side. It's definitely a unique flavor. Nice soft bun. The meat was grossly over cooked but would have been tasty had it not been so dry. The onion rings that came with the burger were soggy. Overall, enjoyed it. We know what to get next time. Shrimp and grits and KPauls pasta!!

Very small tight cramped quarters with three adults and two dogs!! Upon entering the room, I was hit with a strong musty smell. But that went away (or I got used to it) after cranking down the thermostat. One weird thing - there were no drawers for clothes. Open shelving, yes. But no drawers for clothes. Weird. I wouldn't like that if we were staying multiple nights. But we were there just one night. Also, there were 3 adults. We had two sets of towels. I went to the front desk to get more and they didn't have any. They told me to check back in an hour. (I didn't bother. I just snagged a towel from the gym), The kitchenette was fairly well stocked. But no paper towels. There was a paper towel holder. But no paper towels. I feel like if you have a kitchenette, paper towels shouid be part of the deal. There was no clock in the room. Sure, I can use my phone. But I don't want to tap my phone awake in the middle of the night to check the time. Plus, I don't keep my phone next to the bed. So that was an inconvenience. The side outside door was broken. And there were no poop bags for dogs on the premises. And the garbage was inside the door. So I had to throw out poop bags inside the door. Eww. The room was bright. I really enjoyed that. Plenty of plugs for everyone's devices. This review sounds negative. But itwas an okay stay. I have had way worse.
