Had a wonderful lunch at the cafe and then went to spend more money at the on-site shops. Very disappointed (and a bit angry) when the cashier at the olive oil shop brought politics into the discussion. This is not the place or the space and shop keepers should keep their comments neutral...unless they want to lose customers. I will never shop here again! read more

Love this place, we come here for lunch, dessert, shopping for plants at least once a week, have been coming since we moved here 7 months ago. However, yesterday, a slow day at the nursery and cafe, spoiled this place for me. We picked out a few plants and went to pay for them inside as the outside station was closed. No one around to help us. I did see an employee near talking to someone but I couldn't be sure, of course, whether he actually was assigned to the register. However, he paid no attention to us and kept talking to a woman. We looked around, tried to find someone and finally gave up. Left the plants on the counter. Very disappointed, might not come back for a while, if ever. read more

This nursery came highly recommended by a friend. I drove an hour and a half to get to this place. First of all, not a single staff member greeted me upon walking through this place. I walked through the food area, saw at least 5-6 staff members there. No good morning, no Hello, nothing. Made my way through the nursery area (which I gave the one star, because it's very pretty back there) and saw at least 4 more employees and no one greeted me there either. It was almost as if they were actually avoiding me, to be honest. Found myself in a random greenhouse, which turns out, I wasn't supposed to be in. But you'd never know, since there was not a single sign, fence or even a rope to block it off. Finally found the succulents, which was the whole reason I was even there. Their selection is disappointing and slim. I did find about 6 plants I did want, however, and as I loaded my cart, some nerd with a walkie talkie came from out of no where and confronted me about the plants. All she said was "those plants you have there are not approved, so they are not for purchase".... Wtf does that even mean? I stared at her blankly momentarily and asked her what she meant by "approved". And she said some confusing BS about how "Agriculture" needs to approve them before they can be sold.... WHY were they out amongst the other plants for sale then?? The plants I had grabbed were literally out with all the other succulents, but on flats on wagons right in front of ALL the other succulents for sale. No signage. I was apparently just supposed to know. Like, I guess I'm actually just an idiot, lol. So, I put all the plants back, even the ones I could purchase, and left. Waste of a drive. Will NEVER return. Poor service, poor selection, poor communication and UNWELCOMING! read more

Really enjoyed my self. Food, service, nursery, store. The drive was worth it Just over an hour 60 miles from Vacaville to Loomis.

The Husband and I had eight 10x7 Iron Trellis' custom made here a few weeks ago for our backyard to act as a higher fence to plant vines on for privacy. My Husband and I both spoke with and left messages back and forth with the store owner and another guy in the iron department to coordinate and price the trellis'. We couldn't find what we wanted at any store we visited, so we were happy to find the iron shop here that accepted our custom order. They quoted a few weeks for everything but we were pleasantly surprised when everything was ready before that. We paid an extra fee to have them delivered to our house because of the large size. They arrived quickly and were exactly how we designed them and thought they would be. The trellis' originally came with two bars on two separate trellis' that were crooked, but once we reached out to the shop about the flaws, they were able to come out quickly to fix everything and now every trellis looks great. We installed the trellis' about a week after we received them and it's been a few weeks since then. They look great and we are very happy with them! We now are looking to have some ones made for our front yard and will call them back again for those as well. read more

Been coming for years and have always had a great experience. Until today. After spending 100's of dollars we were on our way from the brewery to pick up trees we purchased. On the way out a high hand employee threatened that we could not leave the nursery premises because they are closed. I tried explaining we had trees to pick up on the way out and her response was "you better hurry up". I was shocked and embarrassed by how she was talking to me while other employees stood there watching. I have no more words other than I don't want to come here again. read more

I am giving the nursery to 3 stars for the restaurant. I'd like to give the restaurant 5 stars, however I don't want be misleading that the nursery is 5 stars. I could not find an unemployee any where around to ask a question. For the prices I would have expected to see much better quality of plants. The restaurant on the other hand was amazing. We come to High Hand for the experience. A beautiful garden center and nursery to wander through. Beautiful specimen trees and huge variety of Japanese maples. But the option to have a beautiful lunch in the atrium style restaurant in a Garden center! What!? Yes!! And delicious food, locally sourced and beautifully prepared rivals any local restaurant. The koi pond with trickling waterfalls is an inviting area to dine if you prefer outside. We travel from Elk Grove to High Hand and love the time we spend there. Loomis is is a sweet town that has lovely small town streets to explore. We highly recommend this nursery & restaurant. read more

High Hand Nursery is a nursery, gardening supply, a restaurant, as well as a few other small establishments inside the large former fruit warehouse (wine tasting rooms, textiles, art gallery, olive oil, et al). Even if not in the shopping mood, browsing here is fun with lots to see and ideas to develop. The nursery gardens aren't the typical rows of plants. Instead, inviting paths and and greenery vignettes. If nothing more, stroll the nursery and meander. The former fruit warehouse is home to a large open area of pottery, large and small, of varying styles. Remnants of this buildings original life as fruit sorting and storage kept in place. Some walls display photos and history of this building former glory. Somewhat like a small town inside this structure, small shops dot the periphery. If you're looking for garden ideas, plants, pots, supplies, and want to integrate some wine tasting, olive oil tasting, an art gallery and even lunch, consider this spot as a stop when in the area. read more

Not to be confused with the Conservatory, this review is for the nursery not the restaurant. This nursery is fantastic. Grandparents visiting? Take them here. Girlfriends want a cheap day out? Take them here (as long as they can hold back from buying plants). Need some inspiration for your garden or other creative project? Come here. High Hand Nursery is located in the former High Hand fruit packing shed. Pieces of packing machinery is still visible and adds great character to the place. This is not just a nursery. Besides that there is a huge area devoted to pots, an area for the Truckee Mountain Rug Company, the Tin Thimble, and an art gallery. Work in lunch at the Conservatory, you can easily kill 4 to 5 hours in one place. The nursery is focused on ornamentals. And if you're in the market or have a weakness for Japanese maples, this is the place to go. There are more varieties of J. maples in more sizes than most nurseries in the region. They are all beautifully displayed and paired with other plants. There are also more shade tolerant varieties of plants here than most others. Large pre-planted pots filled with creatively designed plants balancing size, textures, and colors are sprinkled all around. The prices on those pots are for the whole thing and they are really well priced. They carry a wide range of size and color pots and sturdy iron planter stands at fair prices. The art gallery is located at the far end of the packing shed. Do make the time to go all the way in there. It is a cooperative gallery where it shows works from some 20 artists in a wide variety of media from ceramics to metal to recycled materials. The artists take turns working at the gallery and are very eager to share information about the artists and the pieces. It is an inspiring experience. Adjoining the gallery is the foundry, where blacksmiths and metal artists work on decorative pieces and wrought iron fences and gates. All visible through windows in the gallery. It's a good thing that a restaurant is available on site. You will need refueling before heading back down the road. The food is a little priceier than the average sandwiche shop, but considering the beautiful surroundings, it gives you the opportunity to savor the sights sitting down. After that, it's time to pick out plants you want to take home for your own work of art. read more

I'm obsessed. Where has this place been all my life? I had to have a salad for breakfast, it looked THAT good on the menu. It had all of my favorite foods; beets, squash, chicken, cheese, it was SO GOOD! and HUGE! It was pricy at $15 but so so so good. I want to drive back from the bay area to have it again now. My mom and uncle both enjoyed their breakfast dishes. The warm biscuit that came with my mom's omelette was wonderfully tasty and warm. The shop was ridiculously cute- you can spend hours walking through the nursery and shops. Prices seemed sort of high but many things seemed worth it when there were a limited number of items and some were hand made. read more

I enjoyed the light selection of plants at High Hand Nursery, but the lackluster service and confusing set-up weren't what I was looking for. I came through after eating near the koi pond from the restaurant next door. The koi and water feature areas were very pretty, but I wasn't sure if they actually sell those things. They very artistically display the plants available in shaded and sunny sections, but the selection was limited. They did have plenty of pine and maple trees, but seemed pricey. I had a hard time identifying staff, there were some young guys around who may have been working summer jobs, but it wasn't clear if they could help me. I wanted more selection on annuals as well as flowering perennials other than camellia, gardenia and hydrangea. I had to wait a long time at checkout for a custom order ahead of me (I had one plant to buy), which was frustrating. Overall this is a lovely spot to visit for its beauty, and a great alternative place to eat if the restaurant is full, but not so much on plant selection and customer service. read more

We've been regulars for many years, especially in Spring! This is one of my Mom's FAVORITE stops when she's in Cali. My parents have a gorgeous home, with acres of gardens, trees, and English Flower gardens (featured in Sunset Mag in early 2000's.) Even Mom is impressed with HH selection. My current decor theme is Farmhouse/Country, which our kids go crazy for. An homage to my childhood visits to family farm and cattle ranch. New pieces scooped up about every other month. However, I am a MONTHLY regular for the balsamic. LOVE the varieties. I am also a home cook, and specialty food chef (for friends and special events.) These balsamic varieties are TOP NOTCH. My favorite is the Pomegranate. All staff is amazingly friendly, I'm particular to the lady who is usually inside near the candles and soaps. I'm usually very keen with names, but hers escapes me. My Cool friend (both literally and figuratively) has been raving about Hi Hand nursery since she moved to Cool. And she was right, it is the most amazing place. So many different types of plants, trees, and flowers just make you want to go home and give your yard some tlc. So that is just the outdoor section. Wow! This place is so amazing. Went for Mother's Day. It was so fun to be able to walk around with a Bloody Mary and look for plants. They have an amazing selection. We ended up buying a couple of maple trees. After tree shopping we had brunch at the cafe. Everything was really tasty. In fact the portions were large and we could have easily shared. I wish we had gotten there earlier I could have spent all day there. I would recommend this place to anyone; can't wait to go back. read more

The nursery is awesome, great setting and plants. We had a lanscape project in mind so we thought it would be great to contract High Hand to do the work. We were very wrong. The project took an extra 2 to 3 months to get started and then they did the work without letting us know so we were not there. The job they did was not totally the one we wanted. Specifially we are looking for a mound along the sidewalk and bushes on top so we could remove the street from our view. The 3 foot mound ended up beign about 1 foot. When we returned and disovered to project we immediately called and Scott gave us an additional price to add more of a mound. I checked into the cost of the dirt they were going to charge us for and found out it was about 1/3 of what they were charging. So we negotiated down to about 1/2 the cost. They finally got that work done and the mounding was probably less than 2 feet. So in my mind they charged less and did less. The bushes etc after several years have not really grown so we have achieved nothing. Several died so we called and Scott came out. He told us the problem was pets coming by and using the plants as their toilet. He said he would replace the plants absorbing the labor and we pay the cost of the plants. So we cleaned up the existing plants like he directed and agreed to paying the cost of the plants. That was at least 2 months ago and nothing has happened. I would not recommend this nursery for any landscape work. They did not do the job we contracted for, tried to charge way more than the cost to fix it and actually never did fix it. Very disappointed. Might be a food restaurant but that is not the objective. read more

Spent a good part of last Saturday there. What a wonderful day! My fiance and I started the day at their restaurant. Although we saw several groups outside and thought we might have to wait we were seated immediately. I cannot imagine a nicer setting. We were surrounded by hundreds of Japanese Maples of all types and colors. Many other types of plants and trees as well. It was gorgeous! The food was very good. I had huesvos rancheros and my lady had a bloody mary and an omelette with a scone. Both meals were scrumptuous. The coffee was delicious. Two negatives were that the prices are high for what you get and the waitress and coffee people do not come around as often as I would like. Still, our overall satisfaction was very high. After brunch we walked around the entire nursery. How beautiful! The walkways, the displays, the pomnd, the rest areas, all laid out so carefully and so beautifully. Truly enchanting place. Then we found the wine tasting rooms and that was a real treat. The three local wineries with their wares to try. Yummy. A very splendid way to spend a nice day. read more

Amazing place to shop or eat or just walk through on a hot day. Very expansive facility and lots of overpriced things that you'd expect to find at a nursery. I love coming here because I was here when it used to be a packing shed. Lots of parking, lots of things to see, but their plant diversity could be a little better. They need more drought tolerant plants and their succulent section is sad. I still recommend that you check it out for yourself. There's lots to see. read more
