My insurance covered for cleaning 3 times per year, they continued to have me come back every 4 months, when I requested id prefer to come just twice a year I was told I had periodontal disease (gum disease ) and needed to do every 4 months (first time of hearing this). Also everytime I came in they tried to get me to buy a electric toothbrush, (they sell them) they did this to my wife also. They even tried to get me to agree on getting Invisalign, I'm 70 years old I don't need that. They canceled appointments twice the day before my appointment, so that's when I figured I'd find someone else. Update; I have a found new dentist and I'm very happy... I was told my gums were find, was told I have small decay starting that needed taken care of. ( this should have been found at my last appointment when HDD had me in for a cleaning. read more

The front-office staff, back-office staff, and the doctor at High Desert Dental are great. They do an outstanding job of making patients feel comfortable. I'm not sure anyone likes getting their teeth worked on, but if you have to do it (you do), you definitely want skilled individuals doing the work. At High Desert Dental, I believe this to be the case, based on my personal experiences and my family's'. I've read some of the more negative remarks on Yelp about this practice, and I find them almost comical. People want to blame others for things that are clearly their responsibility (Our oral health and dental insurance coverage specifics). These dental healthcare workers are asked to provide a service, then you don't like the aftermath of YOUR decisions such as post-treatment dental sensitivity and/or financial obligations for the work provided to you?? ....and then try to make yourself feel better by blasting these honest hard-working people on a website intended to help others make informed decisions, about things that really matter??? The amount of confusion and change at this office is overwhelming. If I wanted to be in the dental industry I would have gone to school to become a dentist. Moreover the patient care, I have zero complaints as I was only seen by the previous dentist who transferred ownership back in October of 2021. The front office staff seems confused by the most simple of questions and surprisingly also seem oblivious to the insurance networks and which ones they work with vs don't work with. Admittedly our insurance changed but to see a response from the business that they communicate ahead of time with patients is categorically false. Had I known I was being seen by a dentist out of network, I would not have continued on such a course. I would have switched or had a conversation surrounding expectations. Getting bill after bill, each one more confusing then the last is not how I choose to spend my free time. Follow up and communication is downright slow and cumbersome with the front office staff at this dentist. Surprisingly I learned through a slip of the tongue that they "fell out of network" with my insurance company. This tells me all I need to know. I went in for a major toothache, they gave me an antibiotic and said that for the pain I should take equal measures of ibuprofen and Tylenol and that will take care of the pain by the following day. Scheduled another appointment 3 days from my first visit. My visit was yesterday. I am in so much pain that I just went to another dentist, who is taking care of me. I won't go back, they were the first dentists that I found when we first moved here 6 years ago, seemed okay in the beginning, not great, but I was okay with things, then over the past few years it's just gotten bad. Every time I go for a procedure I end up having pain for several days after, and I mean discomfort that I have to take Tylenol for, I went back after one such procedure because I thought something must have been missed or overlooked, but they couldn't figure it out and sent me to a specialist who also could see nothing visibly wrong so I just had to deal with it. After another procedure, just filling replacements, I had the same kind of pain that lasted nearly two weeks, then it dawned on me what it was, the dentist is very heavy-handed, to the point that it simply aggravated my nerves and really got them agitated, I have never in my life had this kind of thing happen so I decided that I won't go back, there are plenty of other dentists in Boise. read more

Super disappointed with the front office staff at High Desert Dental. BEWARE they are very unorganized. The main reason we left this office is they failed to mention that Blue cross Blue shield insurance fell out of network with them after we had already established care for the past year. We were left paying way more than expected on multiple services. The office staffs response was "sorry this happens". The dentist there is great and does good work but she will need to fix her front office. read more

I wanted to get a price on several procedures at High Desert so I called and set up an appointment. I made it clear that foremost I wanted to know what it cost for a crown. I explained that I had been overcharged for an implant with dental insurance that was a huge waist and did not wish to go there again! The front desk person could not answer my questions. So Im ushered into a chair and informed that an x-ray and consult is required for $105 (more than Ive ever paid at a dentist, this place is supposed to be good price?) I explained again that that is not what I came for and told them about what the original overpriced dentist was going to charge. So they finally got it clear -about what I was interested in and the dentist (female) she came and was I think amazed and a bit annoyed that someone would ask such a thing? She gave me a price that was $500 more than the expensive dentist? There is nothing cheap about this place- (I have a feeling she overpriced her service for some reason?) they are very nice and probably very helpful if you dont go outside the box! read more

Appalling care by dentists who care only about lining their pockets and have a complete disregard and absence of respect for their patients. Dentists have provided terrible care with inadequate explanations of charges for cleanings and other services for my children and myself. Overcharged for the costs of X-rays and fillings. Staff were great, dentist was the roughest I have had in my 58 years of life. I take great care of my teeth and my Father was a great dentist so I have had to take care and go to dentists all my life. This dentist scraped my upper molars Assessing for cavities that it has felt sensitive ever since. She also has no personality which one needs if having the job of making patients feel comfortable. They scanned my teeth without asking me so they could try to sell me Invisalign and I am 65 years old with straight teeth. Also when I went to make the follow up visit for 6 months out I asked for a time after 3pm, which is when I get off work and she that said starting in April they have no times available after 3pm ever again. read more

I have been going to the High Desert Dental Office for 17 years and have never been disappointed. The staff is friendly and most importantly knowledgeable. I have had excellent care throughout those 17 years which covers dental cleaning, fillings, root canals, gold/porcelain crowns, X-rays and scans all done at reasonable cost to me. Dr Fethke and Dr Pottenger (new to me) take time to explain everything they do and make recommendations on good dental health care. Monica is my technician, very patient, very professional as well as personable. Also gives recommendations on good dental health care. The office staff are great, friendly and very helpful. High Desert Dental is kinda like a family operation, everyone is very professional yet friendly and personable. I have recommended them to friends who are also very happy there. They have Covid protocols in place making it very comfortable for patients and staff. read more
