Clover patch for Annie to take a break in after serious romping

As we were driving cross country through America this summer I was actively looking for a place to let my dog run. The location was awesome, saw no poop piles, a place for big dogs as well as a place for small dogs. Lots of trees for shade and to pee on for our furry little guys.

IT'S OPEN! Yes, the High Bridge Dog Park in Downtown St. Paul is open! There's a new entrance on Washington St between Shepard Rd and Spring St. See photos. (Note that as of summer, 2017, the entrance on Randolph St is closed. About a quarter of the space has been fenced off.) So, yes! Bring your dogs! The majority of the park is open!

High Bridge is my absolute favorite off-leash dog park in the Twin Cities! It's guaranteed to make your dogs tail wag like crazy! What you need to know: -Fenced in off-leash dog park -A small portion of the dog park is fenced off for small dogs -Ample gravel surface lot parking -Bring your own dog bag. Sometimes dog park patrons will leave plastic bags in designated areas. If you take a bag, bring a bag the next time you visit the park -Dress accordingly. Depending on weather the park can get a little muddy. That being said, you may want to bring a towel to wipe off your dogs paws before you head home -High Bridge is HUGE so be prepared to do some walking -A port-a-potty is located at the entrance of the park

Took my senior dog here on a Monday around 8pm. There were 20-30 dogs all running around. Everyone seemed to be picking up after their dogs and all the dogs were very friendly. After 45 my dog had made great friends and there was not a single fearful or aggressive dog in the place, they all seemed to be having fun playing together. I will go back often! I do wish it was a little larger and there are no water fountains so BYOW. The convenience to my apartment and how friendly and well behaved everyone was certainly made up for it.

It's great that's it's near downtown, and it's a fun spot, but all the zig zagging I have to do to drive there is a little frustrating. However, if you already live off Shepard or Randolph, you will have no idea what I'm talking about and this is a super convenient dog park for you. That aside, it's a seven acre dog park located under the Smith Ave bridge. Pre-noon, there is no shade to be found, however in the afternoon the bridge itself creates a nice shady area by the entrance. It's a big open field, and for having only been open a handful of weeks, it's pretty popular. There are some maple and oak saplings planted, so in a few years (to be generous) there will be some more shady spots. But if you bring your own water, and a tennis ball, you and your pup could have quite a bit of fun here.

Long, open stretch. High bridge dog park in a nut shell.

Great park, friendly and responsible pet owners. Seems to be an easy way to help dogs socialize without having to drive too far

I'm going to have to return to this park again when I have a bit more time to explore. I stopped by…read morefor a quick hike and was a bit stymied when my GPS took me an unnecessary two miles over to the west entrance (past the unrelated marina) when I'd been intending to use the east one. The west entrance has a good-sized free parking lot nearby the gazebo. This structure has picnic tables, fire pit, water fountain, and restrooms (however, the latter two are seasonal... in November the fountain was shut off and the restrooms were locked, which kind of sucked for me who was in need of both... thus why I made my stay somewhat short). The trails for the most part are all paved, unless you take the unofficial ones beaten down along the riverway (which seem to be most utilized by fishers from what I could glean). So that's great for bicyclists or people pushing baby strollers or rollerbladers, but wasn't exactly the vibe I was looking for. Depends on what your desires are recreationally. There was one lake area under restoration that was therefore inaccessible for now; always nice to see when resources are being invested to keep our parks nice. Lots of trees, plenty of shade, even when most of the trees have lost their leaves in preparation for winter. I think I'll come back when some snow has fallen, because I'm sure it would probably be quite gorgeous.
