I've been to several local brewing companies in Colorado but this fairly modest one might just be my favorite. Their loft-style upper deck opens out with a balcony onto the street, however you can sit at a bar counter on the main level if you prefer. I noticed that the vibe was welcoming to all, not just a demographic of mountain-adventure thrill seekers (who look like they have just stepped off their mountainbikes to quench their thirst.) There were several tables of women with children, and all rubbed elbows in a pleasant manner. Our servers appeared to be college-age and were sweet. The selection of beers was not overwhelming. We are able to observe the brewing area and vats in back, behind their open kitchen, from our upper deck vantage point. They have hoppy ales, amber/dark porters, and lighter summer fare. I selected a basil influenced "Italian style" mountain ale which was brilliantly balanced. So many breweries play such a heavy hand on ecclectic and odd flavors that I was pleased with the balanced yet fresh bite on this excellent summer beer. My companion got a wild rasperry ale from a neighboring Colorado brewery on tap. (The restaurant serves a selection of five in-house brewed beers on tap). A great selection of pizzas are available, like the beers, at $1 off during happy hour which ends on weekdays at 6:00 p.m. We selected one with pickled red onions and bacon offset on bbq-based sauce and using chicken and cheese. It was delicious, with crispy crust, and a perfect foil for our beers. The speed at which they brought out a perfectly crusted pizza was astonishing. Their oven is hard at work and its obvious there is some expertise in the kitchen here. They are a historic building with brick walls and massive wooden support beams. The noise can bounce a bit off the walls especially as this is a cavernous warehouse type of architecture. This modest brewing house might just be a new favorite haunt in western Colorado. read more

Arrived half an hour before closing - we never planned to eat nor stay longer than about 10-15 min for a drink after a long day of traveling. We went to sit at the bar (again, 28 minutes before closing and still several people at the bar) and were greeted by an obviously irritable "last call is in less than 5 minutes so if you want anything I guess you need to do that now." Mind you, we hadn't even actually sat down at the bar yet before this very lovely greeting. We hoped we could have a few minutes of unwinding after having been traveling for 8+ hours, and would have absolutely compensated our server/bartender accordingly. As a former server and bartender in my 20s, I know it's not ideal when someone sits down to order anything when you are nearing close time, but also I always knew my job meant staying available until close - and more times than not, I made the most money in tips from my guests who knew they came in a bit later than ideal. Point is, we never would have stayed a minute past closing time - that is disrespectful. I knew asking to be served 30 min before close might induce an eye roll or sigh. But I also knew I would make sure to tip more in order to remedy that issue. We weren't even given the opportunity to explain we only wanted a quick drink or two before it was made clear by the bartender (blonde girl) our business was not wanted. If last call is 25 minutes before closing I'd recommend maybe changing the closing time to reflect that - or simply make it known no one will be served 30 min prior to closing. We would not have come had that been the case (and that is okay). What's not okay is going into a bar/restaurant that is quite literally the definition of "service" to be treated as nothing more than an annoyance. We actually had looked forward to visiting this restaurant after researching before we came, and unfortunately we will be going elsewhere during our visit. read more

Went in the other night with my 10 yr old daughter for a beer and a meal and things got off on the wrong foot immediately. Never got greeted and seated properly by a server. From the start it was questionable who our server was. We asked to sit at a two top that needed to be bussed. When it took almost 10 minutes, we just sat down at a 6 top. Had to get up to order a beer from the bar because one of two servers never came back to take our drink or food order. The bartender was great and poured a beer promptly. Had to flag someone down to order food. The chicken sandwich came out over 30 minutes (after asking where the food was) and by this point it was a slightly warm/cold chicken sandwich. Then had to flag someone down to pay our check! The customer service was the worst I've ever experienced anywhere. Felt completely ignored. Not sure what's going on here if they are not trained properly, miscommunication of what server takes what tables or just lack of staff when busy but this place will lose business if this is how they roll. The stout was excellent but don't expect much more. read more

We had dinner here in July while traveling through Colorado on vacation. We got take out as they were very busy. We enjoyed the North Woods salad with chunky Gorgonzola dressing and two pizzas: Garden of the Gods and a build your own. We also got a growler of Gunny Gold Kolsch. Everything was great and will definitely return someday. I didn't take any food pics but their growler makes a great souvenir. read more

Good beer and good pizza--one of my favorite combinations. High Alpine Brewing Company didn't let us down on either one. Our service was very good as well--all in a very pleasant atmosphere. We sat on the deck in some perfect August afternoon weather. One pizza for two would probably be enough, but we were hungry and didn't want to take any chances. Anyway, we each ordered a pizza and had some left over to take home. Mary had the Pig and Fig while I had the Mountaineer--both were really good. We were a bit surprised that the menu was just salads and pizza--no burgers or sandwiches. But there are other places in town for that. This is the only joint in Gunnison with pizza and hand-crafted brews and it's a nice addition to our favorite mountain town. read more

HORRIBLE SERVICE!!! BURNT PIZZA!!! SOGGY SALAD!!!! This was one of the best slices on the pizza and it still has burnt bits all over it. My partner and I walked in about 5 minutes after 8 on a Saturday night and the entire staff treated us like we were the biggest inconvenience of the night. We order almost immediately because we really get the feeling they want to close early. Their posted closing time is 10pm and by this time it's barely 8:30. Before our pizza comes out we notice the cook standing near the bar just staring at the people at the bar and snickering with the bartender and hostess. The pizza comes out and because we've gotten the feeling they want to close early we don't say anything about the pizza but the staff definitely knew, they didn't even ask us if we enjoyed it. At 9 they shut off the music and turned off all the tvs with people still finishing their plates. My partner wrote a review and the owner emailed my partner telling him he must not understand they serve BURNT PIZZA it's "Neapolitan style" he said. The owner, Scott, also stated we must not have been at his establishment... look at the coaster Scott. This burnt disgusting pizza and horrible service is definitely your establishment! He is also commenting on peoples reviews dismissing their experiences and not trying to make it better. So you might as well go literally anywhere else in town at this point frozen pizza from Safeway will do you better! read more

Wow I don't get it. This is by far the worst beer I've ever had. And it took 25 minutes to get it. The salad was old, wilted lettuce, pizza was decent but this place is hack. Third time trying is not the charm. They need big time COMPETITION!! Come on Gunny!! We love you, but this place needs a cold, crisp piney IPA, and some good food!! read more

I was super excited when I learned there was a cool brewery in this cute little town, when I entered there was an amazing rock band of young adults, the brewery was full of cool people and the decor on point, but they really need to step their beer game up. I order two different beers and 2 out of 2 were not good, they had a weird aftertaste, and I didn't want to take the chance of another bad one so I just called it a night. The 2 pizzas that I tried were good, but not amazing. Maybe they just didn't have a great batch that week... who knows... I would only go back for food and for the atmosphere. read more

We stumbled upon this beautiful brewery while driving through Gunnison. Everything from the service to the ambiance the drinks and the food was absolutely amazing!! All of the food is sustainably sourced from local farms and the beer is made in house as well. We enjoyed the Beet salad and it was so fresh I think it was just picked from the garden. Then we enjoyed the Bleu Buffalo pizza that is cooked in a fire oven with homemade crust. We were absolutely blown away with this restaurant!! read more

Our first time in Gunnison which we were using as a Basecamp to explore CB and Blue Mesa/Curecanti. I'd heard good things about this brewery and was intrigued by the basil beer. We arrived for dinner and drinks around 6pm and were lucky to find a spot at the bar. The service was attentive and very friendly. We started with a flight and I got the green IPA. We were blown away by the quality of the beers. The brown sour was actually sour but didn't have a lingering taste which we liked. The IPAs (there were two) each were hoppy but with different tastes. For instance the hazy IPA was more fruity and the green was more bitter. Perhaps the biggest suprise was the coffee stout. As we currently live in Douglas County we were familiar with Crowfoot Coffee and this stout had their espresso. This was my favorite beer and I am not normally a stout drinker. We ordered the charcuterie appetizer which was huge with several types of cheese and meats. The raspberry cheese and duck were purchased favorites. We also got a pizza to share and enjoyed it. We were fortunate to meet the owner, Scott, who was friendly and very personable. It was great to see him helping behind the bar...cleaning, emptying the dishwasher, restocking and generally assisting the staff. We enjoyed our meal here and are already planning a trip back for the winter. If you are in the area, I highly recommend a meal here. The prices were very reasonable and we haven't found a brewery with such high quality of both beers and food before this one. read more

Wowza! Loved the pizza! The sister and I both ordered the mountaineer. Flavors were on point and the crust was amazing. Only took about 15 minutes from order to delivery. Service was great! Would have rated a five star except for the following: Difficulty turning over tables. Approximately 45 - 55 minute wait and tables remained open after customer departure for as long as 15 minutes before next party seated. Also, we sat inside, but chilly night with breeze flowing through the restaurant. A little too cold for us. We both requested extra cheese, but didn't meet our expectation. read more

Rude AF sarcastic demeaning host. I was sitting at the bar for 10 minutes and blatantly being ignored by bartender. I mentioned to the host who spoke to me in a very condescending and demeaning manner. Learn some customer service skills, you bitchy host.I have come to this brewery often and never been mistreated. I even waited at the host station to be seated and politely asked if I could sit at the bar. I will think twice coming back in the future. Just because you are the only brewery around does not give you the right to be rude. read more

Loved this place! My sister and I were browsing the nearby shoppes and just had to stop in. Super inviting atmosphere and had a ton of great house beers. It was a plate of fresh mozzarella, ale infused cherries, roasted tomatoes and dried figs serves with some crispy bread. I had the half Red and Blue salad with a honey mustard dressing that had quite a kick! Sweet, spicy and delicious. You could tell the dressings were made in house. Chai martini is a 10! And Jack is one of the best bartenders in town! Couldn't recommend it enough!

While deployed in Gunnison Colorado my coworkers and I decided to go check out High Alpine Brewery ,they have a large selection of really good beers and they also had really tasty appetizers but we had their delicious wood burning pizza I was so happy that we finally made it there because I was craving pizza thin crust pizza with veggies in sausage and not that sprinkled sausage that I had at 2 other restaurants while in Gunnison Colorado. The audience inside of high Alpine Barry was also really eclectic it was really cool you seen some the bar all the way at the top you can look down it was a really nice atomosphere our waiter was very informative about the different beer is they have and also I got to try different selections to see which one better fit my palate.
