I had them come over to take a look at our furnace, as to why it wasn't blowing hot air. Their place was less than 2 miles away from our house. They arrived on time. Dustin worked for about 30 minutes. They charged me $100 for labor, $20 for trip, and $99 for the part that was replaced by our house builder. It's the same part that was tested before and replaced! It works fine for about a week, then the furnace reverts back to its old way: did not blow hot air, again. I called them to tell about my situation. They were going to send Dustin again but after a discussion I declined his arrival. Anytime you want them to come over, you will incur some sort of charges. Therefore, I told him to talk to his owner and discuss what's needed to be done in order for me not to pay the replicated fees over and over again. The owner called. Just like any business owner, he over-talks you, not giving you time to explain yourself. I still listen, giving him the platform to say whatever it is that he wants. Mind you, this is the same guy that diagnosed earlier on the phone that my furnace needs a conditioning/cleaning when I told him of my issue. Wrong. Our furnace is less than 4 years old. Even Dustin diagnosed the first time and it says on the bill that everything is in tip-top shape, then why is it acting up, again? The overall lesson: if it's not done right the first time, what makes you think I would want them to fix our furnace the 2nd time or the 3rd time? Pros: Technician calls you before they come over. Good communication skills. Dispatcher empathize with you. Cons: May take more than 1 trip with extra charges. $100/hour (who makes that much, more than a doctor), wrong diagnosis or could not find the issue at hand I feel like they are an okay company but in this neck of the wood, there are more selections to be selected. The owner is a shady business person. Did they respond quickly, yes. I specifically said this is not an emergency call. I have a place to stay. It is NOT an emergency. They performed the work that needed to be done. However, the technician asked if I'd like them to look at another appliance. I said sure if you can. They looked at the other appliance then disclosed they're not licensed in that area, so I should have another licensed professional look at it. I get the bill and I was still charged for the entire service call even though the tech wasn't licensed. I had a licensed person from another company come look at the other appliance. So essentially I had to pay for two different technicians to look at the same appliance. The owner of Higgins Heating REFUSED yo change the bill! SHADY!! read more

We bought a house in 2019 with a new very nice furnace. After a few months we realized the upstairs wasnt getting warm in the middle of winter. I called Higgins out and after inspecting said my furnace was too small (I had figured that out based on BTUs vs sq ft). Higgins installed it. He ignored me until my father in law got involved. Then he finally called and told me I could by a new furnace. I refused I told him he could fix it since it was his mistake. He won't. Our upstairs is comfortable two months out of the year.... it's freezing in winter and hot in summer. It's wild he won't fix his mistake. read more

customers beware, they quote one price, then charge way more! i have attempted to call and talk with the owner twice about the bill only to have the receptionist field the call and tell me he would call me back in a timely manner, only the owner/person who quoted won't call back! We worked with another company that's out of Macintosh Mn named Sandhill that is run by a guy named Ryan and we have always been treated with respect and he has always been honest! The folks at Higgins have been so helpful over the years to me! When we bought our home, we had never had central heat and so when I had questions about ducting in a wood stove, I called the number listed on the furnace which was Higgins. They came out to my house and walked me through the process of what I would need to do and only charged me for half the time they were there! They even made a couple specialty pieces for me. Now we are building a new home and I decided to get quotes from only two heating contractors that I could trust and Higgins was one of them. Their price as 20% lower than the other company's and even when the project took longer than they expected, they still stuck to the quote and even went beyond to help me with some supplies I still needed. Recently had our nearly 20 year old furnace go out. Called the after hours number and within a few hours was warm and fuzzy. Couple weeks later furnace quit again after hours of course. From beginning to end, our experience with Higgins Heating was top notch. Our neighbor recommended them for am AC unit in our lake home. Charlie, the owner came out to do the estimate and was thorough, personable and confident. Although they were very busy with the summer season, Charlie worked to get us on the schedule before July 4th when we were hosting guests. To say that was the nick of time is an understatement as temps climbed to the 90's. Darren, our installer arrived early and after a quick review of the job, went to work. He kept his work area clean, was polite and we barely noticed him. We went for a boat ride to beat the heat and by the time we returned, Darren was just wrapping up. He thanked us many times for our business and even installed our previously purchased remote thermostat at no extra charge. Water damage and threats! We purchased a new furnace and central air from Higgins in 2012, and after two years I still regret doing business with them. First problem was the mess and stained carpet on the stairs from their work- I don't know how they managed to spread greasy oily black goo from one end of my finished basement all they way up the stairs. While the bid I received included installation of venting, they hooked up to the old vents and never checked them. In the first heating season, we had destroyed ceiling tiles and wet carpet from the vent leaking- a technician came over, repaired that place in the vent, then left without cleaning up the mess or offering to replace the ruined tiles. The following year (late 2013) we had another leak we couldn't locate, so I called Higgins back to check the rest of the vent, which they did, and then charged me for it. When I disputed the bill, they sent it to collections without returning my phone calls. I then hand delivered an explanation of why I didn't feel I should pay $100 for 15 minutes of work (that should have been done when we paid for the new equipment and installation) with a check for the service because I didn't want my credit score affected by their threats and incompetence. My letter of explanation stated that I was happy to discuss this, but that it was in their best interest to tear up my check. Now, more than two months later, they cashed the check, without ever calling me. What abysmal customer care. read more

Higgins came and gave a great estimate on the installation of our little pot belly fire place on tuesday, and by thursday they had it installed, and all cleaned up and great job done.. thank you higgins, finally after 4 months waiting on another heating place to put it in you pulled thru and got the job done.. from now on all my problems I will call higgins first.. thank you read more

Customers beware! They overcharge you and won't call you back or speak with if you have questions about the bill and overcharge. I called this business several times to dispute the bill. Dustin would not speak with me, I actually heard him in the background on two of the calls I made telling the secretary to tell me that he was with a customer. I think Dustin avoids any type of conflict. My issues with the bill were the over exaggerated drive time to and from my house ( I live 2.5 miles out of the city limits) as well as being charged for the 20-30 minutes the repairman spent sitting in the Higgins van in my driveway after the work and paperwork was completed. They not only charged a trip charge but also charge for drive time to my house. Anyway, this is my first and last experience with this company. I highly suggest using a different company in the Bemidji area for your heating and cooling needs. read more

Customers outside of Bemidji beware!! We live in Park Rapid, MN, about 50 miles from Bemidji. Higgins installed out heat pump about 8 yrs. ago, did fine job. We needed a service call in June as unit was not working. They said nothing regarding what service fee would be or warn us how much it would cost for them to even get to our house. When I received the bill, I called the office because I was in shock. Here is the result: They charged $90 an hour for labor/mileage so I paid the technician $180 to sit in his truck and get from his last job to our house and leave our house back to his shop. On top of that, we had to pay for 100 miles @ .85 a mile to "pay for truck maintenance because someone has to pay for it". Oh yeah, it is 'industry standard'. I was told they didn't have to go to Park Rapids because they have plenty of work in Bemidji but do so as a courtesy. He asked me why I didn't find someone closer to do the work and I answered "because we wanted the work done by the original installer". I asked why do you accept jobs outside of Bemidji? I was told because they have a lot of customers in Park Rapids. So if they have so many customers in Park Rapids, why don't they schedule all service calls in Park Rapids on one day so all customers share in labor/mileage, etc. or do they already do this and gouge each customer? From now on, I will take the advice from Higgins, I will find a shop in Park Rapids. read more
