I wish my phone had not died last night while roaming the streets of Deer Lake. There is one good thing about bars buried within a sleeping town. The music makes them easy to find.
I am positive a local would have a different perspective about the Hideaway, however as a tourist here were my few thoughts.
I was looking for a bar with an upbeat vibe and that is exactly what I found. For a small town, about 6,500 people I believe the bar was great. A lively crowd that generally made even the obvious outsider welcome (well ok, maybe there was one guy that needed to emphasize his territory, with a few elbows while pushing his way at the bar and a ohh so scary muscle man pose like a little puppy marking his territory).
The crowd was a nice mix for young people in their twenties, thirties, through to fourties, and more. No matter your age, you were well represented.
The two bar staff were super friendly and attentive, and a large beer and liquor selection. You name it, they generally had it.
However, what topped the visit was the DJ. Boy, could he mix - Kept the small dance floor hopping, and a great selection of music. Honestly, he could have easily put many of the DJ's in most big city clubs to shame.
Do not let a strange town intimidate you. I am glad I went for the wander and got out to see Deer Lake's night life. read more
