There's several class types for all genres (kpop, hip hop, popping, jazz funk, house) - for different levels! So many teachers to choose from, recently I've been taking Jepoy's Beg Hip Hop on Friday nights and they've been so fun! I plan to take others! Each class is $25 unless there's a special guest, and you can book the class online or do a drop in when you're there (They accept Venmo on site!) I typically book day of, but best to book in advance when it comes to special guests. I wish there were class packs of some sort because I would love to come more consistently. Parking is pretty easy on Fri nights, but I can't speak for the other days, as it is located in the city. They also have spring performance workshops, which I plan to do in the future! I'm excited to keep coming back!

I used to come a few years ago, and I recently started coming back. I was pleasantly surprised because the current batch of teachers is much better than it was before. I took Eddie Mina's class on 6/24/26, and I absolutely loved it. The vibes were great, the choreography was taught thoroughly, and Eddie is an excellent instructor. I'm only taking off one star because I wish students were more aware of dance class etiquette. I understand that dance classes are supposed to be fun, but constantly joking, talking, and being unfocused with your group of friends while the instructor is teaching is disrespectful (not only to the teacher, but also to everyone else who paid to be there and is trying to learn the choreography) It was distracting enough that it made me hesitate to come back to this instructor's class if his crowd of students continues to be like this. (I didn't experience this in Austin's class, so I think the crowd varies by the teacher) In LA, most dance studios and instructors emphasize class etiquette and remind students to stay quiet and focused while the teacher is demonstrating or explaining choreography. I think that really helps create a respectful learning environment for everyone. I hope City Dance Studio can consider reminding students about class etiquette at the beginning of class or by posting a simple reminder on Instagram. I genuinely enjoyed the instructor and would love to keep coming back but the student environment is the only thing keeping me from coming back.

Now that I've grown I've recognized the harmful and toxic practices that occur in this dance studio. As an adult I have had to recognize that the moral lessons I learned at the school don't align with the claims they make on their website. I am unlearning the idea that I wasn't enough, I wasn't good enough, and that it wasn't my fault for how competitive and toxic the environment really was when I attended. Girls were constantly being pitted against one another whether it was harmful gossip or actual comments made by the staff. I'll never forget the way in which teachers would talk negatively about past dancers that had chosen to leave from the toxic environment. I was personally scolded by one of the teachers and was told that I wasn't cut out for a prestigious summer program "you should try out next year when you're strong enough". Regardless of never meeting PSB's expectations I was accepted to the program. Because that's what the art of ballet should be. Ballet should be inclusive and encouraging. Please don't send your kids to this school if you want them to endure trauma that will linger into adulthood!

We decided to check out this dance studio since we saw they were teaching a Kpop class. Luckily…read morethey were teaching 2.0 by BTS and we were excited. This was our first time at the studio. There's plenty of parking, and the studio is on the smaller side, but nice (there's two dance rooms--one larger one and one smaller one). Since the Kpop class was so popular, there were a lot of people, but we were in the smaller room, since it sounded like there was another group training for some sort of performance. Once they left, we switched over to the larger room. Isabel teaches the Kpop classes and she was so friendly and encouraging. She was patient and great at breaking down the dance moves, while moving the class at an appropriate pace. It is a 1.5 hour class, so we finished all the moves with 15 minutes to break into dance groups (not exactly my favorite part, because my brain can't usually learn all the moves in the same class). Of note, they do record the group dances, but you can probably sit out if you want (I just stick around because of peer pressure and low key want to remember how I looked from when I started until mastering the dance). It's also nice that she will be kinda doing the dance on the side to guide you. There's no level listed on the class, so I'm assuming it's all levels. Based on being at other dance studios, I think 2.0 was more of an intermediate level class, but it was very doable! Overall, I really enjoyed my class with Isabel!

She also lets you request whatever kpop song you want to warm up to and is just a great teacher and dancer overall. It is a stress free class where it's ok to make mistakes. Classes are Tuesday nights 8-9:30pm and Saturdays 3:30-5pm. The dance changes every week. You do learn the whole dance in 1.5 hours so it's fast pace, but you don't need to be perfect. I just have fun and don't worry about getting it perfect. She does record it at the end but you don't have to be in the recording if you don't want to. I recommend you bring a water bottle. If you have trouble finding it, it is near Vinnie's Pizza.

The reason I am giving it 5 stars is because overall, the Movement Lab owner (Bernadette) and team have so much passion and heart for this business and dance. Everyone we encountered here has been a genuinely good person. They were patient and kind with my daughter as she learned ballet basics. We especially felt this in the final recital. Even though it was a little hectic the week of the recital with two dress rehearsals, it was all worth it. Not only was the recital entertaining with all types of dance (ballet, hip hop, jazz, modern, break) but it was so heartfelt and creative. If I had known, I would have made it a point to watch both shows. It was that good. I also loved how Bernadette offers a dance class for special needs teens and adults and that they perform at the recital as well. It was so lovely to watch and it shows that Bernadette and her team have a big heart and include everyone in dance. Such a nice dance family to be a part of.

You don't have to be a pro to receive excellent instruction here. A large variety of classes are offered for adults and teens, especially focusing on ballet and pointe, and these classes are no joke! They are long (1.5 to 2 hours for technique, and 1 hour for pointe), so you get a good barre, stretch, and center, along with plenty of time to discuss concepts and technique. While the instruction is professional and detailed, there is no need to worry about dress code or a toxic atmosphere. You can wear whatever you feel comfortable in, and everyone is positive, friendly, and welcoming. No drama divas here! The prices are also very fair - just compare them to other studios in the area - and you pay less per hour the more hours you dance per week. This is the perfect studio for anyone who is considering trying ballet, as well as for adults who want a more intensive ballet school. The first class is free, the music is great, and the instructors can work with any physical limitations that a dancer may have. Plus, they offer the rare opportunity for a beginner adult or teen dancer to eventually go en pointe with enough training. Best of all, CCD offers TWO performances each year at Spreckels Performing Arts Center in Rohnert Park! If you have ever dreamed of performing in a ballet, yet thought you were too old, you're in luck! These are not recitals, but full-fledged productions. They are not necessarily classical ballet-based, but also incorporate jazz, tap, and contemporary. It is an amazing experience to take part in one of these productions! They are not your usual ballet fare, either. For 2010, CCD put on original productions of "Alice in Wonderland" and "Nightmare Before Christmas". A welcome change from the usual "Nutcracker"! I should also mention that the floor and facilities are fantastic. The studio is clean and fresh (no dust bunnies!), and the floor is sprung with multi-purpose Marley which is perfect for pointe work. It is well heated in winter. They are in a convenient location, being just a few blocks away from the center of the Cotati hub. This studio also offers classes for children, starting with Primary Ballet for 4 and 5 year olds and going up to teens. They are also beginning to offer RAD ballet exam work. Best of all, they are expanding their class lineup to include adult beginner tap, hip-hop, and Afro-Caribbean.
