I have had chronic lower back and neck issues, and was really hopeful that I might get some relief. First, they charge a $90 intake fee, which isn't covered by health insurance (I've never had that experience at any other chiro office in other places I've lived). The same day of my initial intake, on my way home, I got in a super minor fender bender. At my next appointment they said they wouldnt treat me until I did ANOTHER $90 intake appointment in case there was anything new from my fender bender. I told them my body felt totally fine and that there was hardly any damage or anything to the cars, and that Id even sign a waiver or anything they needed. They kept pressuring me to use my PIP insurance for multiple days, and refused to continue my previous care until I did that, even though I kept saying my body was fine and that I didnt want to use my PIP insurance and couldnt afford to pay out of pocket. At one point Dr. Cosgrove offered to do the new exam for free, but then 2 hours later called back and revoked his offer and said he'd talked to a lawyer who promised that using my PIP wouldnt raise my insurance rates and that he no longer would offer the comped exam because it was a waste of his time. It felt so slimy and like a total money grab. I chose to walk away after never haven gotten any chiropractic care and asked for my original $90 back and they refused.

This is an older facility that UW Medicine acquired at some point and looks outdated both outside…read moreand inside. It is a long walk from the main entrance to the elevators (not great if you can't walk!) And the foot and ankle clinic oddly didn't have seats in their waiting room conducive to those with foot/ankle injuries. On my first visit I had to wait for the receptionist to check in two other people while I balanced on crutches in pain. When I sat down to await being seen there was nowhere to prop up my injured leg. I thought this was really odd. They could really use some tall chairs like the Sports Medicine Clinic at Husky Stadium has if they don't have other ways to elevate injuries. When I checked in I was in a lot of pain and had to ask for a wheelchair. I was surprised they didn't offer one when they saw me hobbling around in pain. I can't be the first person to come in like this - it is a foot and ankle specialty clinic! Once I was brought back to the exam room the visit went very smoothly. The team works well together and the doctor I saw was very thorough and professional. I felt better after getting to ask all of my questions and seeing additional x-rays and CT scans. They were able to schedule my surgery quickly and their surgery team was very good. On the day of the surgery I was a little anxious but the surgeon and anesthesiologists working on my case were very calming and pre-surgery was pleasant and not anxiety producing. The nurse had trouble locating my vein to insert the IV and pricked me twice before she had to leave for lunch break. Luckily the female anesthesiologist offered to do it and I barely felt anyhing that time. She was quick and so friendly I was immediately at ease. The next thing I knew I was waking up. I was surprised at how long it took me to regain consciousness and awoke to an impatient anesthesiologist who was waiting on me to wake up so he could get to a surgery he was holding up at the hospital down the road because of me. I understand why he would be annoyed, but he probably shouldn't have let his annoyance hinder our interaction. I definitely did not feel comfortable letting him know I was experiencing pain at the surgery site as he stabbed me to insert the saphenous block in place and then removed it with such haste that blood pooled out all around the site. When I looked down half an hour later I was confused as to why I was bleeding. Weeks after surgery I still had a bruise at the site where the doc roughly inserted the saphenous block and yanked the block out, as well as a hard hematoma or whatever that is under the skin that was caused by that traumatic experience. I removed the palpiteal block as instructed a few days after surgery and there is no such bruise/pain/hard formation under the skin. Hopefully in the future they will be more careful post-surgery when inserting and removing additional blocks! I will say the nurses and other staff at this outpatient center were incredible. They were so patient and kind. They certainly went above and beyond the call of duty to take care of me and I am grateful for them.

Unfortunately, my experience with Dr. Steve Morris was not so stellar. He seems to take a very cookie cutter approach to diagnosis and treatment. (The reason I prefer naturopaths to medical MDs is that I expect them to be more holistic in their approach.) Not too long into my first visit he handed me a lifestyle sheet, essentially an eating and exercise plan, which he said that he recommends to all his patients. He did this prior to understanding my medical history or current condition. When I told him that I was experiencing insomnia, he told me it was from drinking coffee and eating heavy meals at dinner. He pronounced this without asking any additional questions about frequency, when it started, changes in lifestyle, etc. When I told him I was having headaches, he told me it was from dehydration. Again, he made this pronouncement without asking any additional questions like where does it hurt, what type of pain, etc. The nail in the coffin for me was that he gave me iodine pills as a supplement for hypothyroidism. My previous naturopath had never done this so I did some research when I got home. Iodine is only recommended for hypothyroidism when it's caused by iodine deficiency. In fact, excess iodine can make hypothyroidism worse so supplements are not recommended if your iodine levels are normal. Dr. Morris never tested my iodine levels. In addition, iodine is especially not recommended if you have an auto-immune form of hypothyroidism, which I have, which I told him. Cookie cutter approach and lack of thorough investigation is bad enough; prescribing treatment contraindicated for my disease is unacceptable.
