They offer a wide variety of classes and levels-- including contemporary, modern, ballet, jazz, and hip hop, as well as fitness classes like WillPower and Grace, Zumba, and their newly added yoga classes. The space itself is gorgeous, bright, clean, spacious, and full of natural light. Right in the heart of downtown, it shows how community oriented the studio is. They frequently host companies, performances, and workshops from Denver and make an effort to give scholarships to students in need. They have become a pillar in Salida's art community and I am so happy to see them continue to grow. You won't be disappointed!

I've had private dance lessons elsewhere in the past, and I have to say Lauren is by far my favorite instructor. She took the time to show us correct hand and feet positions to prevent injuries and ensure smooth transitions between moves. She also worked with each of us individually to perfect each move before we put them all together into a fluid, sexy routine. Not to mention it was a helluva workout! The studio is beautiful inside, Lauren was incredibly sweet and fun as a teacher, and everything was very un-intimidating. I came across Yoga Olas because it was closest to my Airbnb and about a half mile walk. They offer a 6am class each weekday which was perfect for my work schedule! I have really enjoyed practicing yoga at Yoga Olas! The studio is beautiful and I have really enjoyed each and every teacher and their individual style! They also offer a variety of different classes from a relaxing yin to more advanced Ashtanga and Vinyasa flows! I'm going to miss coming here when I leave Salida!

Sarah opened this studio in the 1960s and it is the go-to destination for both male and female dancers from the very youngest through high school. Many different styles of dance taught, including tap, jazz, pom, clog, lyrical, ballet. There are also tumbling classes. Often time graduating high school students return to volunteer to help or return as instructors. There is also a family maximum - one you reach a certain level, there is no additional changes for more classes (save and except additional costumes that you will have to purchase). This is helpful with a family of 3 dancers. Sarah is a very patient teacher, even for the youngest an inexperienced dancers. Her recitals (which are multiple days because there are so many dances) are top notch and very professional. High School classes have opportunities to travel and compete. While you can stop in to ask for more information, it is a better idea to all ahead to make an appointment because there is a lot going on during most afternoons and evenings. Mornings and early afternoons might be best. There are 4 different studios. Sarah Shaw has done amazing things for our daughters, including growth in self esteem and self confidence. They have also met many more friends, may of which will no doubt become life long friends. I highly recommend Sarah Shaw Dance Studio.

My children experienced blatant favoritism, where the same students were constantly given opportunities while others were overlooked, no matter how hard they worked. The class leveling is a complete mess, students with vastly different skill levels are lumped together, making it impossible for anyone to truly progress. When their regular instructor is unavailable, the kids are often taught by high school students who are given too much power in this school. While these students are lovely, it feels more like I'm paying for babysitting rather than a real dance education. I believe this is closely tied to the owner's lack of maturity, which affects their ability to run a business and hire qualified dance instructors. The instructors rarely provide meaningful feedback to help students improve, leaving them to guess what they need to work on. The "highest ranking" ballet teacher who is also good friends with the owner, is extremely condescending and rude to anyone who isn't one of their favorites. More so, the teachers are immature and not properly trained, and openly discuss students with other students, which is completely unprofessional and damaging to young dancers' confidence. The schedule is never provided in a timely manner and constantly fluctuates, leaving parents at the mercy of the school's availability rather than allowing for proper planning. We were constantly told the schedule is coming out on X date, registration is coming on X date and this rarely happens and is usually delayed weeks. If you truly want your child to learn proper dance technique, and grow as a dancer, look elsewhere--this school is more about instagram than an actual dance education.

The leveling is all wrong, they put girls that can do AMAZING things and others that are not as excelled as others. They are not understanding of your home life. They make you sit out in class when you don't meet their behavior expectations when your the one paying them. My daughter came home crying or would dread going to dance. Certain Teachers make the class a competition. The teachers also talk about particular students right in front of them and make them feel bad and that they are not good enough. Instructors provide mean feedback. More so, the teachers are immature and not properly trained,and openly discuss students with other teachers in public which is damaging to a young dancers confidence and passion for dance.
