Located just off Peach Street about 1 1/2 miles from I-90 I found Mel & Tee's easy enough. The front half of the store is mainly a hobby shop, some cool stuff but not what I was looking for. Luckily there is a door to the back of the store which is stuffed with a wide variety of items, collectibles, furniture, home goods and enough to keep you looking for a little while. For me the only item that interested me was a vintage wood stick puppet from Java/Indonesia. The puppet stood out as a very unique and high-quality item, although it did have a bit of damage to one of the hands. The price was about right, but a bit more then I wanted to spend. Luckily I started talking to the very nice lady at the register and she said that they were willing to deal on the item. I made a bid at the lower end of what I thought was fair and she accepted. I ended up getting a great one-of-a-kind item at great price. If you are looking to check out a local thrift store in Erie, Pa. I would suggest giving Mel & Tee's a try, not the biggest place but the fun is finding something you never expected; also really nice when you can negotiate a bit to get what you want.

Every time I go there they change the prices up front at the register to more money than is advertised in back--or they say the sticker is wrong on the item and ask for more money--what??? They really are ridiculous with their pricing--many of their items are old or have stains, yet they want top dollar--plus, you can't even test the electronic items. I have noticed that lately when I go in there they are not busy--I guess people figure if they are going to pay those kind of prices they can just to the Salvation Army where there is a way better selection.
