Prices are very high for a thrift store. Golf items were outrageously priced and the guy pricing…read morethe items was not educated in the value of the items. Used golf clubs were beat up and damaged, but they try to price those items at a premium. They price items so high that they never sell until they have so many that they have to store them or cut the prices and only then the items move out the store. I called to complain and left a message, but that was never returned. I will never do business there again.

I have never seen a thrift store with more professional displays than this. The person who does…read moredisplays at this shop is a real pro. Prices drop progressively as noted on the colored price tags (this helps keep inventory moving and is an excellent practice for thrift stores). The inventory selection was my biggest complaint. There was little in terms of practical goods (appliances, kitchen, electronics) heavy bent towards womens items (clothing, purses, bric-a-brac). This may merely reflect what people are donating, but it could also be an inventory collection, processing, or pricing issue.

I have worked really hard to downsize all my possessions and am very discerning about what I buy. I was so happy to find stuff here that fit me and looks fabulous! You see many responses to the post, asking for the price, but you don't see a response. I recently commented to a person inquiring about the price, that they don't post or respond to price. I was referring to sharing it online. Well, it hit a nerve because they responded rudely, privately to my comment. Was it really necessary to be snippy and say, "There..I responded."? Not all local businesses earn support.

I'm sorry, I'm sure you have to get your inventory somewhere, but it just doesn't sit well with me. People who go to second hand stores go to Good Will etc also. Seems like you're beating us to the punch and whether or not that's the reality of second hand stores or not, it leaves a bad taste in my mouth that you've got the brass ones to pull up the company van to the Salvo. Saw you shopping, you weren't just dropping off. Yeah, that's not cool. Go incognito in your own car.

While traveling through Erie on the way home I figured I would get in some thrifting; luckily, I…read moreended up at Mel & Tee's. Located just off Peach Street about 1 1/2 miles from I-90 I found Mel & Tee's easy enough. The front half of the store is mainly a hobby shop, some cool stuff but not what I was looking for. Luckily there is a door to the back of the store which is stuffed with a wide variety of items, collectibles, furniture, home goods and enough to keep you looking for a little while. For me the only item that interested me was a vintage wood stick puppet from Java/Indonesia. The puppet stood out as a very unique and high-quality item, although it did have a bit of damage to one of the hands. The price was about right, but a bit more then I wanted to spend. Luckily I started talking to the very nice lady at the register and she said that they were willing to deal on the item. I made a bid at the lower end of what I thought was fair and she accepted. I ended up getting a great one-of-a-kind item at great price. If you are looking to check out a local thrift store in Erie, Pa. I would suggest giving Mel & Tee's a try, not the biggest place but the fun is finding something you never expected; also really nice when you can negotiate a bit to get what you want.

Every time I go there they change the prices up front at the register to more money than is advertised in back--or they say the sticker is wrong on the item and ask for more money--what??? They really are ridiculous with their pricing--many of their items are old or have stains, yet they want top dollar--plus, you can't even test the electronic items. I have noticed that lately when I go in there they are not busy--I guess people figure if they are going to pay those kind of prices they can just to the Salvation Army where there is a way better selection.
