The first time I came to this shop I had a reading with a psychic who gave me guidance on how to banish an evil entity from my house. She also informed me that there was a good spirit living there with her protector - a cat. Before this reading I had seen cat pawprints on my bedroom floor upstairs and felt a cat making bread on my bed at night. (For the record, a stray cat entering the house is pretty impossible.) The banishment worked and, thankfully, Gilda (good spirit) remains along with her beloved cat Jinxy. Hex is a magical occult store. Inside you'll find incense, crystals, candles, herbs, potions, books, divination tools, jewelry, and items that you will need to banish evil spirits from your home. I'm so glad that I stopped by hexx. I came in here with a specific list that I had to purchase for friends and was pleased to find that they had all these gorgeous custom-made incense. I'm glad that everything that you see in store you can also buy online because I'd probably purchase incense directly from this stores website instead of going on Etsy and getting cheap things. The store was so clean and organized and the staff offered to assist me with any of my needs but I didn't need any help. Such a cute witchy store. They also have a psychic, which my friend did, and she said everything checked out. There's a lot of stores like this when you walk around NOLA, some having more crystals than others, some having more candles, etc. this one I would say is definitely more witchy than others, there's even a corner where they have blank spell books. Placed an order over a week ago. I sent an email asking why nothing has shipped. No response. I call. All I get is an excuse of problems with a shopping app. And was told how orders keep stacking up. There is no offer of an ETA. Why the F did this vendor not take the orders to the post office to mail. Fun fact: there are post offices in New Orleans. When visiting New Orleans, it's a must that you experience some of the culture behind African voodoo. There are a few different stores around the French Quarter, but Hex was one of my favorites that we visited! Hex is located in both Salem, MA and New Orleans. Inside, you'll find all kinds of different items to check out. Voodoo dolls, spell books, incense.... and that's just to name a few! Such a cool spot! They have a ton of metaphysical items such as candles, crystals, incense, books, voodoo dolls and more! This was right up my alley since I'm into "spooky" stuff. I can't speak on the legitimacy of the products if you wanna do some real witchcraft, but I'm sure the store clerks would know. I grabbed two candles for home decor, which were under $10...so it's very affordable imo. I also got a couples psychic reading done here by Mimi which was a very great first experience! Highly recommend a reading with elie. This is my third trip to Nola and I read through some lists online to get ideas of things we haven't done before. Getting a psychic/tarot reading at a voodoo/witch shop was one of the things. I originally wanted to do a reading with my mom but they were pretty adamant that it's one person or couples reading since it can get distracting with too many people's thoughts so I was able to convince my husband to do it with me. Elie was very easy to be around and made the experience comfortable. She was spot on on some things and brought up some stuff that I'm interested in looking into. First off, the staff I encountered on my visit were all incredibly welcoming and friendly. I am a paranormal investigator and travel to NOLA frequently for work. A few weeks ago I had a disturbing experience that left me very off. Long story short, I woke up and began my search to speak to a psychic. (Knowing there are dozens around) I stopped in and booked a 30 minute reading. Let me tell you, it was the most well spent $70. My session was with Trace Rhodes. I have not had any sort of readings prior, but let me tell you he is VERY intuitive. I was very skeptical at first but the moment we began I knew he was the real deal. I had a great evening History tour thanks to David Lord and I think you would too. "What had happened was..." it was all about "Women and the Magic of the French Quarter" and it took us on a leisurely stroll around the lower river-side quadrant of the French Quarter, which began with a plunge backwards in time to the period of the Houma nation and chronologically moving forward, showcasing the familiar stories about women like Marie Laveau, Madam Lalaurie, and Mary Oneida Toups while defining the magic (both good and bad) that they brought to the New World and how it shaped this unique cultural blend of New Orleans, He showed us the magic already all around us, with the enthusiasm and depth of interest that can only come from many years of reading, study and interest. I would highly recommend taking this tour because, despite David's charmingly gruff rock-and-roll demeanor, he is an excellent storyteller, group leader, and purveyor of occult history. The last tour I went on was years ago, and I had forgotten how nice a stroll through the Quarter on a warm spring evening could be, especially while getting the inside edition of stories you only thought you knew. Best believe voodoo and Hoodoo are thick here! What I learned from this shop: Voodoo is a religion that originated in West Africa and Haiti. It has religious leaders, organized teachings, and ancient rituals. Hoodoo is what people THINK that voodoo is. Hoodoo uses magic by way of incantations and spells. Hoodoo is practiced in New Orleans. A lot. This store is the real deal! Love this place! I was visiting from out of town, and wanted to do a physic reading super last minute. After Yelping, I called a few places without availability, but Hex was able to fit me in for a same day reading. The location was central, but it's probably really hard to find parking nearby. Upon entering, the front desk person (I forgot his name but he is a very nice, young Black guy) was friendly, warm, and told me a bit history about this place. I didn't check out much of the store because I am not personally into metaphysical/occult store, but it seemed like they had a lot to offer around each corner. My reading was with Trace and it was otherworldly. He was kind, funny, and attentive. I didn't disclose much of my details, but the cards and him were spot on. Lovely store, we actually found this store two years ago but due to scheduling and stuff we never had the time to return. I've been waiting to get my hands on a handmade woven book, sure I'm not artistic. But the book is gorgeous and I can't wait to place it near all my nerdy items and collections. The store is small to get around and once you are in it, watch out you'll probably knock something down. But that's alright!! Workers are super friendly and made the place feel alive, we even got our hands on a lot of cute little gadgets and can't wait to use them. This shop is worth any visit even a twelve hour drive and walking up and down the street for two hours. We had visited the vampyre shop just before visiting hex- they actually recommended that we stop there on our venture around the town- and was not disappointed!! You are greeted with the scent of essential oils and incense- it is here that you can get any thing you may need to cast a spell- so peaceful at that. Walking around the shop you got to see some authentic witchy cultural relics. Pay a visit to the altar- it was pretty moving to see. The staff was friendly and the store was very clean.
