Thanks to Felix O., you were a blast to meet. I have been to a variety of Stuttgart hotels over the 20 years and my music touring activities, and despite the hotel may not show on the outside, the inside is nicely redone and rooms and conference areas are wonderful. This hotel is our premier pick for forthcoming tours.

This review comes after being a Marriott Bonvoy platinum member for over 11 years having stayed at…read moreMarriott properties throughout the world. I can honestly say the Marriott Sindelfingen Germany is by far THE WORST Marriott property I have stayed at. However, I want to start this review on a positive note and recognize some very hard working staff in certain sections. Breakfast Buffett: The gentleman at the morning omelet station is super kind and the results of his food are amazing. I can't think of his name at the moment of writing this review but he is the only male cooking in the morning. Bar: Alex the bartender has great customer service skills. He sparks really good conversations and is super helpful with sharing information about the local area. His drinks are always great just overall a great guy. Management: During my stay here, I have had conversations with management about issues during my stay. My most recent conversation was with Juan Carlos. He was very receptive to my comments / criticism of the property. He actually made me feel like he cared and was a great listener and shared with me information that allowed me to understand why certain things were happening. Great management skills. Now for the not so pleasant criticism: Housekeeping: For those of us staying long term, we get cleaning once every 3 days. This is absolutely reasonable. However, they only give you two towels per room for those three days. I am a single person to a room that showers two times a day. Once in the morning after my workout and once before bed. Two towels doesn't cut it for 6 showers. If your going to extend the cleaning period, at least leave enough towels or have a policy in place to do just a towel swap if needed. Next is the shampoo / conditioner / body wash containers. They are affixed to the shower and are full size containers to last a while. On one occasion, I ran out of both shampoo and bodywash. This happened at the day 15 mark. So the containers do last a while. When I ran out, I called the front desk and asked them to please have housekeeping refill the containers. When I got back they were not refilled. I ended up buying my own shampoo and bodywash from the store. The second day before going to work I stopped by the front desk and again asked them to please ensure the containers were refilled. They assured me they would be. When I came back after work, they were again not refilled yet. On the third day, I took the containers off the wall and physically walked them down to the front desk and finally asked to speak to a manager as I was extremely frustrated that it took 3 days to get my containers refilled and only after having to walk them down myself. The manager invited me to a cocktail and had the containers refilled immediately. While I appreciate the cocktail, I want to point out that for 15 days the cleaners had to come to my room at least 5 times, to clean up. During that time, they should have seen that the containers were running low and refilled them. They were not doing that so maybe a policy needs to be put in place that they check the levels of the containers and if they are less than 1/4 full they need to be refilled before the hotel guest has to request it. During my stay, I noticed the housekeeping staff is a third party cleaning company as they do not wear Marriott uniforms and have a different logo on their uniforms. This would explain why there are inconsistencies with the cleaning service. Additionally, this raises some concerns for me because they are third party contractors. Therefore, Marriott doesn't really have much control over these contracted employees or their policies. Additionally, the quality of background checks they conduct on these employees is unknown. While I have not experienced anything negative, I would feel more comfortable knowing Marriott company employees are the ones servicing my room. Executive Lounge: The lounge is accessed using your hotel key. So if you pay for the executive lounge access or you are entitled to access based on your Marriott Bonvoy status your access is granted onto your keycard. My issue is even though I swipe my card and gain entry, there is an employee in the lounge that again asks for your room information. Although minor it just gets annoying because like I have said I have traveled the world for the past 11 years as a platinum member. This is the first lounge that double checks your access. There are waaaay better lounges with better food and drink selections that do not do this. On one occasion, I went in the lounge to just get a glass of water from the water machine. I grabbed a glass and started to walk out when I was stopped by the employee working the lounge. She had zero tact and called attention to me as though I was about to commit the biggest crime. She then proceeded to tell me that I cannot take anything out of the lounge. A glass of water folks!???

There were not a lot hotel choices but this one was close to the base a friend lives on and we wanted to be close. When we checked in it seemed to go fine. We got our key and the front desk wrote down our room number. She then told me the room number and I told her she said a different number than the one written down. She said the one she told me was right so we took our key and bags and went up to the room. When we opened the room, we found a guy jumping out of the bed, completely shocked. We apologized profusely and backed out. When I went downstairs, the manger came over and asked what happened. I told him and he said that we went to the wrong room. I advised that I understand that but we were told the wrong number. He argued that the right one was written down. I said okay but they key worked for the room she said and he just started getting angry with me and saying it was my fault. But if it was my fault, why did the key work? They were so rude about it. I also put two people on their serration apparently but there was my nephew. I had forgotten to include him and they got rude about it and charged me additional fees for him. I was okay with it. It was a mistake when I was searching for hotels but he was really rude about it. We ended up needing to stay another night and I put all three the second night but when we got to our room still didn't have enough towels so I don't understand it. Also, this is incredibly close to the train. They had the heat on. We could not turn on the A/C so we slept with the window open and the trains were very loud. Overall, just not a great stay. The staff are subpar and act like you are the issue when they create problems. Still don't know how the key working on the wrong room was my fault. Only positives, it looks nice, the shower and shower products were nice. They have complimentary water in the room and a bar downstairs.

We were not able to get accommodations and we're given a list of local hotels from across the Stuttgart area. We put out emails to our top 3, but only Hotel Bohler responded. This hotel is run by Manuel and his wife Melinda. They have an awesome staff that treated us like family from Day 1! When we arrived they had dairy-and egg-free bread for two of our boys. One of the staff members went out of her way to bake a allergy-friendly breakfast cake so they could enjoy breakfast like other guests. As for the rooms themselves, fantastic! We occupied 2 rooms, but there was a door that essentially made it a suite. The bathrooms were stellar and included full-size tubs. We had a range of channels, to include BBC and some kids channels. Wi-fi was perfect! As for the location, there is a bakery across the street and you're within a 5 minute walk to an Italian restaurant, a doner kebab place, and the Brauhaus. There are 2 parks also within a 15 minute walk depending on the length of your child's legs. We hope to stay again on our way out of Stuttgart!

While the rooms are clean and functional, they lack any standout features or luxurious touches. We were not told about the bike race that caused a road closure, which would hinder our ability to exit the hotel for the remainder of the day. Additionally, the room we booked was in part of the hotel that lacked an elevator -- because we needed an elevator, due to having an infant stroller and luggage, we had to pay extra to get a room in the side of the building that had an elevator. The hotel should have done a better job both on their website and upon check in to communicate more effectively. Thong, one of the employees, who's name is longer and stated she's originally from Thailand, lacked any friendly customer service or knowledge of the city -- she stated all museums and tourist places were closed on Corpus Christi day, however, these were actually open with the exception to retail stores. However, the service provided by Chris, one of the hotel's employees, is exceptional. Chris goes above and beyond to ensure guests have a pleasant stay, demonstrating professionalism, friendliness, and a keen attention to detail. A smaller boutique hotel, Waldhotel is a short cab or train ride into the city center (€27-29 for cab). The train station is about a 7 minute walk from the hotel. We always seemed to be running late, so we always opted for the cab. The rooms are very charming and we got a kick that the wallpaper looked to be inspired by a Victoria's Secret store (see photos). The amenities in the room were plenty with an abundance of free mini-bar items to include lots of water (needed after a long day/night at the Cannstatter). The hotel staff are all very, very nice, service oriented, and everyone we ran into had enough command of the English language to be more than helpful. A particular memorable experience was when I went downstairs one morning too late for breakfast asking for coffee and water so I could work on my computer. The lady at the front desk went out of her way to have a restaurant server set up my very own coffee service in the lobby. How many hotels would have just coldly informed you that "breakfast is over?!" Not the Waldhotel. The bar area is also very nice, with very reasonable prices. One evening I had a double Balvenie 16 year scotch, a generous pour of 20 year port, and ended with another double pour of Bowmore 18 year, all of which came out to around €50, which I considered very reasonable. Additionally, the bartenders kept feeding us free snacks the entire time (maybe they could tell the shape we were in)! Unfortunately, we did not partake in any of the sauna/spa activities, but those seem to be a huge hit based on other reviews. The Finch restaurant is located inside the Waldhotel and is where hotel breakfast is served, and they also boast a unique and impressive dinner menu. I will review the Finch separately, but the convenience of such a great onsite restaurant is another perk of the Waldhotel. We had two meals there. Our entire two night stay which included the €50 bar tab, €48 for breakfast, my €6 lobby coffee service, came out to around €550 total, or around $602. It was probably one of the more expensive stays of anywhere during this romp around Europe, but definitely one of the more pampering and unique experiences we've had as well.

The front desk staff was kind enough to speak English with me while I learned German. I had a junior suite which has a separate room with a large bed. There is a fold out sofa bed in the main area. There is a small room with kitchen sink, microwave, and refrigerator. If you are hoping for a cooktop or oven there isn't one. The sunset view from the balcony is nice. I brought one cat with me. I did see other guests with dogs. The hotel prepared a litter box, food dishes, and a cat tree for my furry friend! Keep in mind that the hotel asks that your pets be in their travel kennels on cleaning days twice per week. The hotel had recently changed ownership and there was a lot of construction. However, noise was limited to certain hours of the day. Some guest service was affected. For example guest laundry was not available and breakfast had limited space. Breakfast was an extra fee but reasonable and had a good variety of choices. Location is right across the street from Salzäcker U-bahn. From there you can catch the U3 to Möhringen then the U5/6/12 to Stuttgart city center (Charlottenplatz/Schlossplatz/Hauptbahnhof). Grab the VVS app for purchasing ride tickets from your phone. Hotel is walking distance to Kelly Barracks. Several restaurants in the immediate area, two stage theaters, and a cinema. Some of the shopping and dining is a little hidden behind and underneath the Palladium theater. Also there is a carpeted pedestrian tunnel that goes underneath the street and connects the two stage theaters to parking. A little farther out there are more local restaurants. A Kaufland is two stops away on the U3 toward Möhringen for everyday shopping.

There are four separate buildings that houses rooms and during inclement weather, you may get wet/cold as you traverse between buildings, just be careful if it's icy, but they do a good job of liberally applying deicer. Just remember, it meets European standards, not US so there is no alarm/clock, and European outlets (so you will need to have adapters). PRO: * Bar - awesome selection made even better by the bartender, Steve who goes out of his way to be hospitable and makes awesome drinks * Property is awesome - bathroom is tiled, and in efficient German manner, the hot water pipes are under them so the floor is warm * Breakfast has a great mix of traditional European fare (cold cuts, cheese, yogurt, bread, muesli) as well as some American style fare (eggs, bacon, sausage, etc.) and coffee machine that provides various selection from expresso, cappuccino, latte, etc. * Spacious room with a separate living room area, bedroom, kitchen - my suite had three televisions, living room, bedroom, and even the batroom! CON: * No gym on site - you will need to go across the street to the KANTO Medical & Figure Lounge located on the second floor. NOTE: Bring a towel from the hotel or have cash (Euros) on hand or you will not be allowed to work out. The gym is more a "posh" spa/gym with lots of exercise machines and equipment. Work outs may not be the main focus as carpet and not the standard rubberized flooring covers the weight room area. Another limiting factor is that the operating hours is 1000-2200 (10pm). * Parking stalls are a bit tight so be aware - when leaving the garage after hours (early or late), the door will be closed, pull the rope to activate the door to open * The entrance to the property is not via the main road, but via a back entrance that is a bit confusing. Driving to property will take some map skills, or great map app (I used Waze), my colleagues another app - I did not have any issues. A definite property to stay when staying in Stuttgart, especially since its close to the airport.
