What a terrible rip off these people are. I'm looking for a car to rent/ drive for the weekend to visit my sick grams. Three days max. I'm looking around at businesses and what pricing they have to offer. They're all on the expensive side. Around $100 per day here and there for compact/ economy cars. I look at Hertz because my insurance through USAA told me I could get a percentage off. Okay- cool, I love me a discount, so I check out the website of the Hertz closest to me... $1200 for three days. What am I paying $1200 for? An airport fee that I don't have even need, a fee for using their facility, and that car better be indestructible for $240/ per day. There are so many other places that you could go... and please, do. It seems like these people just make money off of people's desperation. Absolutely Predatory. That's probably why the other reviews are bringing up the fact that the customer service is lacking to say the least, they don't have to be nice when you're desperate to rent a car on a Sunday night, or when the twenty other places are out of cars during the Covid summers. Yo. This Hertz Rent A Car is a no-no, blow. Not the first experience I want after arriving at PDX. My partner and I never experienced a line like this at other Hertz Rent A Car service. Usually, arrived at other airports with their rental car service, it was just a quick check-in and check-out experience. It should be like that than having your customers wait in line just to rent a car. Unfortunately, this service did not exceed our expectations on renting a car. I understand it's summer and people are traveling, but dude. I never experienced s l o w service like this everrrr. It's the worst. If you go to Portland, avoid this Hertz Rent A Car. There's barely anyone working at the front desk. Only one person which is why the line is so jacked up and slow. Almost an hour has flew by. This location is the worst! I had such a horrible experience that I'm going to call corporate. I called two days before my reservation to confirm everything. Type of car, pick up time, date, everything. I spoke with the manager on the phone who seemed bothered and annoyed with me calling to confirm. She said, we are picking you up at the Ford Dealership right? I was like no, I've never mentioned anything about ford. You are picking me up at Brady's. Fast forward to the day of the actually pickup. My app was at 9 and I was supposed to call hertz at 9 to have them order a lyft to pick me up. I called for 15 mins with no answer. I finally ordered my own Uber. I keep calling and as I get in the Uber the manager answers. I tell her I'm frustrated that I couldn't get through and she tells me she called Brady's yesterday and they didn't have my reservation. How does that stop you from answering my phone call?! I arrive at the hertz office. I told her again I was frustrated. She was rude the entire interaction. She then says the car I picked was full of gas. I check the vehicle and it's 3/4 full. I tell her this and she starts huffing and puffing that she has to change the reservation. I haven't even wrote all the issues I had with this woman but you get the picture. Stay away! read more

I'm not going to lie, I was hesitant to go through Hertz given the reviews but I'm glad I gave these guys a chance. I was completely taken care of by Hertz. The car I reserved wasn't ready at the time of my early appointment (to be fair I made it less than hour before the scheduled pick up time) and they were very accommodating. Gave me a different car for the same price! Overall the guys at Hertz were friendly, professional and I will be a repeat customer. We asked for economy or compact car while on vacation in the Vancouver area. The service person Sebastian told us there were no cars available but a more expensive and big Kia Sedona. Needless to say, the cost was $50 more than quoted and we had no other choice but to take the larger and more expensive model!. For two days of our 6 day vacation we asked for a smaller and less expensive model and were told none were available what??? Was there a conference of little people in Vancouver requiring a need for economy/compact cars NO! Very disappointed and we won't be using or referring Hertz again for our travel needs. read more

My husband reserved a cargo van to rent early in September. He received an email verification, but when he called the day before he was told they'd sold them all - a month ago. They had nothing to replace it, only a pick up truck. He needed a van. He ended up going to Enterprise and got the van (very last minute) and great customer service. We've used Hertz for all of our rental cars when we travel, but no more. It wasn't just this office that didn't care, he wrote a complaint to Hertz and got a response thanking him for his comment. read more

I'm in the middle of my one-week rental, so I can't speak to the drop-off process, but picking up yesterday took the usual 20m, everyone was friendly, and the car was what I had requested. I would like to start off by saying that I would never rent through Hertz and would never recommended, even to my enemies. I Just recently rented a car through Hertz after a bad experience I had 3 years ago. I gave them another chance since my Fiancé set it all up for me. When I got there to rent the car I noticed the car was very small. I asked the manager if the luggage would fit in the trunk. She opened it up and of course they didn't. Her response was that if I rent a economy that's what I'll be getting every time. She also said that I get what I pay for. She even suggested that I put one of the back seats down and used it for my luggage. (I had 4 people going to be in the car) Without even offering a upgrade I had to ask her if there was a bigger car available. She told me yes and it's $10 a day extra, so I rented it. I asked her if there was parking for my personal car for the time we were renting. (Just wanted to make sure nothing changed since the last time we rented). She told that there was in their overflow, but to be aware that there are no cameras and they are not responsible for our vehicle. I've rented through them before and parked their with no problem, so didn't think anything of it. (This was the beginning) We got back from vacation 9 day later and decided to drop the car off the night before so we wouldn't have to get up so early. I saw a notice on the window that said to park the cars in the overflow if there is no parking left. (Overflow was were I parked my personal car). I went to drive over to the overflow to park the rental next to my car to make a quick switch. MY CAR WAS GONE! I called the towing company in that location and told me they didn't have any record. They suggested me to call the cops to have them run my plates. I called the police and asked them to run my plates to see if my car was towed. The police told me that there wasn't any records. I decided to file a police report that my car was stolen. Both myself and the officer walked around the overflow and found nothing. I called Hertz the next morning to let them know my car was stolen and if they knew anything to contact the officer. Immediately they told me that they had to have the car moved because of paving. My fiancé drove me to Hertz to check if my car was there. (It was) While I waited for the police I notice that I got a parking ticket. (then I got mad) I walked to Hertz to tell them about the situation the manager was not very apologetic. She told me that she knew about the paving in front of her business, but didn't know anything about the overflow being paved at all. I asked her when the paving was done and she told me the 12th, which was the weekend after we left. (2 days later) We didn't get back till the 19th so they has all those days to notify me. The complex it owned by someone else, so Hertz just rents their property. The owner is the one who was doing the paving and had my car moved, not Hertz. As a courtesy they should of contacted anyone who rented car in that time frame that their car had been moved if they used the overflow parking. Their was not one notice that there was going to be any paving what so ever anywhere. She told me that the ticket was going to be taken care of, but when I got back to the car after talking to the officer there was another ticket put on my car. I walked back to get a copy of the first one and to give her the second on, she just gave me a dirty look and said, "I guess your going to want a copy of this one too"? I went home with my car and waited till I calmed down before calling headquarters. I called headquarters to complain about the who situation and started to tell my story. The woman over the phone kept cutting me off. Headquarters told me that the only thing that they are responsible for is the renting of the cars, not the parking. She even told me that it is not their responsibility to call customers that their car was moved due to paving. I know that they were not responsible, but it's courtesy to call when knowing it happened a week prier to us dropping of the car. Then headquarters asked me why I parked there in the first place? (like it was my fault) She kept cutting me off an so I yelled at her and to her to please let me talk. (while she still wouldn't let me talk) She told me to stop yelling at her and stop cussing. (I was not cussing) I didn't tell her that I would stop yelling if she would transfer me to her supervisor because I had a complaint about her too. She told me that she would not because the supervisor was unavailable for my SITUATION, then she hung up on me. I called back and got the same person and immediately asked for a manager and she said my name and told me she wouldn't. I ended up hanging up on her in the end. No matter how cheap you can get a car at Hertz, whatever you do don't rent through them. It's not worth the headache! I would rather pay extra for better customer service. read more

I rented a car on May 1st. Poor customer service. Unfriendly. We were visiting from Hawaii and they must have thought we were foreign or something. Everyone else had a cheery welcome. The doors weren't open on time, we were there at 7:35 AM, it felt like we inconvenienced the agent when he opened the door. Scolded us instead of explaining nicely that he needed the credit card because renting online only "reserved" the car. Had other people visiting but told them to rent at PDX. At least they upgraded the car but agent made it a point to say he upgraded the car, no charge but not the car we reserved. This was after other people saw how nasty they treated us... read more

Looking over all the Yelp 2 star reviews from every Hertz location makes it clear that my assessment is not unusual. Clearly Hertz does not care about its reputation or its customers. From having a moving van with a dangerously problematic transmission which I drove in January over the Cascades only to have it towed (which earned me a $100 credit that, in looking to redeem, I realize is worth about $10 bucks because the fees and taxes and more fees upon fees added to the weekly price practically doubles the price and makes the coupon virtually worthless to me, and certainly not sufficient compensation for the dangerous, potentially life-threatening position their vehicle put me into), to trying to maneuver their websites and realizing nobody is in charge of keeping them updated (i.e., if locations are closed due to Covid, is it really that hard to get someone to post it on those websites??), to speaking to agents who seem like they've smoked too much weed and can't collect their thoughts, I am so. done. with. Great customer service! There was a glitch getting my rental released due to a recent oil change. The staff worked together to contact the necessary people to move the process along. The car was clean and in great condition. The office is dated, but who cares? I'm just there to get my car. This rating is based on the service and car quality. I rent from Hertz on a regular basis and LOVE the Vancouver location. I always have fast, friendly service no matter who helps me. My cars are always ready for me when I arrive and I have very little wait time. Recently, they were very busy and instead of having me wait, Paula just checked my ID, gave me my keys and I was on my way. A few minutes later I received a call from her to wish me a great trip and see what I had planned as we didn't get our normal chat. I was thrilled that she took the time to reach out and have that personal connection. I love that no matter what type of day I am having my interaction with them always makes me leave with a smile on my face. I would highly recommend this location! read more

Nothing much to it really. The gentleman I did business with was pretty cool and informative 'bout the area. Nothing special about the location. Like "econo-gray" everywhere except maybe the dark green front overhang. Renting always seems pretty pricey (especially when you're below the min age threshold, which i think is 25) with the diff rates and insurance and age fees, but hey you know, when you gotta get around, just pay it, ya know. And they just got a new kia spectra which i snagged since it was the economy car... funny how the antenna wasn't car wash proof... someone prior took it through and the long rear antenna was bent and chipped at top. and it could've been wiped down a BIT little more. read more

These guys are pricks. I woke in the morning to find my rental had a flat tire delaying my whole day. I called to discuss a solution but rather than hearing, "I'm sorry sir, we will that take care of right away. Here are a couple options..." all I got was some ass hole telling me I have to pay for tire, that it's my fault and he's gonna charge me. So the only option I had was to take the tire off myself, take it to Les Schwab which they repaired for free, and then put it back on. This is a rental car and as the customer I should never have had to deal with that. Never again Hertz. read more

This place is a joke!! My truck was broken into, and being repaired at the dealership. My insurance company made a reservation for me at this location. I called to arrange a time for me to come pick up the car, only to be told they didn't have a car available and would have one brought over.. ok no problem.. That evening I call and still no car, I was promised they would have it in the morning. Next morning I call, and guess what.. still not car. Ok I work full time and their hours are the same hours I work, not their fault but trying to pickup a car is inconvenient. I show up on Saturday to pickup my rental, got dropped off by my son, and was RUDLY greeted by Kathy the manager. I handed her my DL and told her I was here to pickup my rental, she asked me my name several times, and finally I said "I handed you my id, my name is on there" she looked in her book and said she didn't have a reservation for me and to have a seat so she can help others. I sat for 30 min and waited for her to help others. Once she called me up she looked up my name in the computer, and said oh here it is. I don't have a car ready for u I will have to clean one.. ok fine. She proceeds to tell me about the $50 deposit.. yes yes I understand, and that my insurance only pay $30.00 a day, yes I understand.. u can't smoke in the car, I said I don't smoke, u r the only one legally ok to drive it, ok that's fine. I don't intend on letting anyone else drive it. Then she says oh I have to charge u a 275$ deposit, confused on why... she doesn't know why.. then I tell her ok use my debit card for that. She needs to do a credit check, I tell her my credit is shitty due to a divorce. She says well that's not my problem and I'm not going to rent to you. Wtf!! She mocks me in front of everyone in the waiting room. I am a beautiful woman and she treated me like I was a hobo. No wonder they have horrible reviews. Renter beware. read more

We will never rent a car from Hertz. We booked a car for 9 am, showed up at noon and when we got to the front desk, the lady was extremely rude. She then proceeded to tell us that she gave up the only rental car they had to someone else. I guess their policy at the Herz in Vancouver is that after 2 hrs, they will give up your rental car. I've never heard such a thing. Even if it was in their fine print, a courtesy call would have been nice asking if we were still on our way to pick up the car. Again, after driving 1200 miles and expecting to get a rental car and not getting one, was very Irritating. It didn't help that the front desk lady was rude and unhelpful. read more

If I could give 0 stars I would. Picking up the car was good, the car itself was good, it was returning the car where everything went wrong. When I came to drop the car off, someone did the inspection while I was there. They came back in and said everything was fine, so we left. Shortly after, the manager calls me. She was rude on the phone and I didn't get to complete even one sentence during that call. She had came up with a rule that was NOT mentioned, NOT in our paperwork, and NOT on their website. I was told not to smoke in the car, and I did not. I was NOT told that I was going to be charged $300 for leaving a couple natural, organic, eco-friendly, decomposable filters in the console. All the other trash and stuff was removed from the vehicle before returning it, literally just forgot a couple filters that could have been tossed on the ground without hurting the environment at all. THREE HUNDRED DOLLARS. And being as rude as she was, too. I will NEVER use Hertz again now that i know they are sneaky, greedy, and rude. read more

My 2019 Forester was in the body shop for a week. The insurance paid for a rental. They brought me a Nissan Sentra. It was so low to the ground I had trouble getting in and out of it with my bad hip. I asked them for another car and was told they didn't have any but would in a day or so and they would call me. I never got a call from them. Even though the insurance upped the rate for a better car. On top for that the brakes would periodically grind and the wiper blades were crap. I will not recommend this company to anyone ever. read more

A beautiful blonde, with green eyes that a man could get lost in helped me. My first time meeting her, but hopefully not my last. I will be renting all of my cars from her(e). I had the worst morning and needed a rental car while mine was in the shop. I went to Enterprise and had such a terrible experience there that I walked out and refused to give them my service. My son was late to school and I missed my Dr.Appt. but it was important not to patronize people who treat you that way. I called Hertz and within 15 minutes I was driving a car with a smile on my face. They were so much more professional, so much more coordinated, and so much more friendly. Very Poor customer service... We booked this car for a WEEK with Delivery/Pick up and we got picked up from our hotel as scheduled! (guess they want there money!) We also let them know we needed to be dropped off at our hotel when we returned the car a week later...The response was 'no problem, we can do that'...! Upon returning the car it was a different story...They were too busy and it was closing time! I was upset and Sean A. looked at the 'Boss" who said to take off $10 and call them a cab....We waited outside for 20 minutes and NO CAB came.... They said they would call again and then left us on the sidewalk and closed and locked the door and went home! WOW, I was taken back by there costumer service OR lack of Customer Service! My suggestion would be to patronize Enterprise Car Rental and NOT HERTZ... They will provide transportation to AND from your hotel...And to add insult to injury, the $10 only got me HALF way to the hotel! I will go with ENTERPRISE next time! read more

Not a good experience at all. I rent cars frequently for work and this was my first time renting at this location. The guys at the desk were sloppy and didn't seem to know what they were doing. When I finally got my van it had someone else's coffee cups in it and all kinds of trash - obviously hadn't been cleaned. When I went to return the van (anytime before noon) there was a sign on the door saying they were helping another customer and would be back soon. Another couple had been waiting 25 minutes. I called the guy and he wasn't apologetic at all - and when I mentioned the dirty van - still nothing. When I said I was frustrated that they weren't open when I got there I got a defensive "we WERE open" - no you weren't! If you were open I could have opened the door and walked in. Ugh. fraud alert! hertz rep named nelson back dated $55 charge on an expired card! had given him a different card for billing. had to call credit card company to get charge reversed! card rep didn't seem surprised, said some rental car offices are trying to see what they can get away with! service at the counter was bad,waited over half an hour to get waited on and we were next! too many phone calls taken instead of taking care of the people in front of them. only had 1 car left at 10:30am, a yaris! what a pile! toyota should be ashamed! might be ok for around town but not a long trip! noisy! no power! poor mileage! no cruise control!!! avoid this office like the plague! we will let corporate know about this branch of their business for sure! read more

This is the worst rental car location I've ever experienced or heard about. Family members visiting from out of town were told upon return that they would be charged $100 vacuuming fee because of dog hair. The dog hair was imaginary on the part of the guy checking the car in because no dog had been in the car. It had been raining while they were here so yes, the floors weren't spotless but it was a normal amount of debris from a week-long rental. In addition, this up charge scam is only introduced upon return--not warned of when renting. I'm sure they count on people being in a hurry and unable to go get the car cleaned--which is a ridiculous expectation anyway. I travel very frequently and have rented literally hundreds of cars and never seen such a poor example of customer service. As a member of the Presidents Circle of Hertz the corporate office will definitely be hearing about the dishonesty and poor service at this location. read more

I don't typically ever rent cars because I have my own, but we had a situation where it was the only choice that we had for about a week if I wanted to go to work. I booked through Expedia on line for the Vancouver, WA Andresen Branch. It literally took less than 5 minutes once I arrived. Everybody was so friendly and it was very easy. My car was a smaller Hyundai which I've never driven, but it was clean and smoke-free. I'm writing this review because it also happened on the record Snow Fall day in Vancouver and I panicked knowing that I can't bring this car back by my due date since we are literally snowed in. I called thinking that they would nail me in late fees or file an auto-theft charge against me, but they were super cool and basically told me not to risk my life getting this car back on time. I spoke to Sarah when I called and I just have to say that my entire ordeal was painless and actually a great experience. The Car was clean, full of gas and a great driving car. read more

I booked a reservation with Hertz through Priceline for the Thanksgiving holiday. We have done it 4 times before this same way and at this same location and never had any really issues. They're not overtly friendly but we never had any real problems with them and they are close to home. Each time we rented before, we returned the car after hours and simply followed the instructions at their drop box. We were always charged accurately and according to our rental record receipt. This time it was different. We picked up on a Wednesday afternoon,as scheduled, purchased additional coverage for our trip and the car was due back by that Saturday night - and it says so on the HERTZ rental record/receipt(not Priceline paperwork). We returned the car Saturday night according to our agreement,filled out the return info on the Hertz enveloped, which asks for day and time of return, placed our keys in envelope and dropped into drop box as instructed. Later that week, I check our bank history and learned that Hertz charge an extra $64. I called them today and spoke with 3 different individual inquiring on extra charge. They said that if you return the vehicle after hours(after office is closed) - which we have done 4 times before with no extra charges - that we would be charge for use of the car until the next business day. We've returned vehicles on Saturday nights before and this has never happened. The vehicles were always returned on time and recorded on the return envelope. This time we were charged for an additional day, basically a day and half(Sunday and Monday morning). 2 of the 3 reps I spoke with said that there is some kind of disclaimer on the drop box stating that such charges may apply though I don't remember seeing that. Regardless, why have clients write in on the return envelope the DATE and TIME RETURNED if they are just going to be charged for usage until the next business day anyway? I made it clear that we returned the vehicle according to the agreement and expect to be charged accordingly. After speaking with 3 different reps, we are still left with being charged an extra $64 for day we never reserved the car for, used the car on, nothing on the rental record/receipt says anything about extra charges for returning a car after hours - they simply don't care and won't honor the receipt. If I steal $64 dollars from a till at a store, I would be charged with theft. Why is it okay for Hertz to take an extra $64 dollars from my bank account? . Also, we found garbage under to the two front seats of the vehicle, which has been the case every time we have rented from Hertz but made no big deal over. At this point, though, they are not worth dealing with and we're willing to take the trip into Portland again for our rentals from now on. read more

The service at this location is terrible! I only used Hertz due to their agreement with my insurance company, which led to a much lower rate for me. I had called the night before for a reservation and told them my husband would be there between 7:30 and 8:00 to pick up the car. When he arrived at 7:30, there were already a couple of people in line ahead of him. There was a walk in that had no reservation and Hertz gave them the car that was reserved for us and there were not any other vehicles available! The individual behind the desk even joked about us not being there was our loss. Absolutely unbelievable and unprofessional. Additionally, when we made the reservation there was no mention made of needing a credit card on file. They wouldn't let me give them over the phone. We were told that they would be initializing a "hold" on the account for $30. So my husband used his debit card and was charged over $50! I will never use this location again and will be quite vocal to encourage people not to. In fact I will probably not use Hertz again, as the staff in this location just kept saying "company policy". It's true you get what you pay for. Save yourself the headaches and go somewhere else. read more
