The oil light came on day 2 of rental and had not been changed for 6k miles. vehicle was returned to the rental location before scheduled time and I recvd a receipt that i was charged for not returning vehicle on time AND HAD KEPT FOR 2 ADDITINAL DAYS I am very frustrated and disappointed with Hertz. I usually rent from Enterprise, but this time I decided to try Hertz since their rates were much lower and they had a wider selection--Enterprise was out of cars. I was a bit hesitant at first because of some of the reviews, but my wife spoke with a gentleman named Chike, who was very welcoming. When I went to the Union location, I asked for him, and I'm glad I did! He went above and beyond to help us, made sure the vehicle was spotless, and got us exactly what we needed. Everyone there was friendly and professional as well. I'll definitely be renting from this location from now on. I had a terrible experience at the Hertz Union, NJ location on 12/02 around 4:30 PM with an employee named Mavel. From the moment I arrived, she was unprofessional, dismissive, and outright rude. Mavel did not greet me or provide any basic courtesy during the rental process. She didn't explain car options or details, and instead of guiding me to the vehicle, she simply started walking out, turned back with an attitude, and said, "come on." When we got outside, her demeanor was so off-putting that I asked if she was having a bad day. Her dismissive response was that she was "fine," but her attitude and lack of professionalism said otherwise. She brushed me off again when I asked about the car inspection, claiming pictures were already taken earlier in the day, and she refused to walk around the car with me. When I asked for her name, she mumbled it under her breath and gave me a dirty look. I had to suggest we go back inside to write it down, and instead of assisting me, she just walked away. To make matters worse, there was no manager available because they had left early. This is unacceptable for a business I rely on monthly for rentals. The lack of professionalism, customer service, and basic respect from Mavel should not be tolerated. The location seemed to be well staffed with two other associates and there wasn't a lot of customers so as much as I have a heart for understaffed locations, this didn't seem to be the case. Mavel needs retraining or a new job that doesn't deal with the public, especially if working for Hertz which is more respected brand I will strongly reconsider renting from Hertz in the future if this is the new standard for customer service. read more

STAY AWAY FROM HERE!!! It is unfortunate you can't give 0 stars. This place deserves nothing. I guess the $60 "rental car" should have been the first red flag in the middle of summer with most other places in the area sold out. Then, if I would have read the reviews...I really would have gained some knowledge about how this place is run, that was a huge mistake on my part. I arrived at this location at 8:05am. I had a reservation for 8am. I would have been LUCKY to receive my vehicle by 10am if I would have stayed. However, I could not. I could not stay and have my reservation delayed not by 1 hour but by two hours at the very least. There were 6 people ahead of me when I arrived at 8:05. The first couple seemed to be having many difficulties, they drove away around 8:35. The gentleman was working alone and told me everyone else called out this morning, he was not getting any help any time soon an no co workers scheduled to join him. The second customer gets to the desk and they had been given a Tesla, where their tire blew, and the car had been towed and this SOLE worker was now on a wild goose chase for this vehicle. That's as far as I got in their debacle because by this time it was almost 8:45 and I had to be some where at 11am 2 hours away and my cushion for time was rapidly decreasing. So after Ubering to this location, a 40 minute wait and 5 people still ahead of me I had to walk out, incurring charges of yet another Uber to get back home. Another lady also, I believe chose to leave, I saw her get in a car and leave. I think it is extremely unreasonable to ask customers to wait hours past their booking time. It is absurd to have one worker in ANY establishment. Infuriating that there could be NO solution to this issue. Beyond unacceptable to have people waiting this long and be stressed about missing commitments. I will never rent from this location again and Hertz will never be my first choice again if this isn't made right. I hope people take time to read the reviews of this location and be warned about what kind of service you will receive here. DON'T DO IT no matter how desperate you are!!!! read more

Honestly, this is my 2nd and last time denting from this location. I put my reservation in 3 weeks prior to my trip for a mid size sedan. When I arrived the rep Christian told me they no longer had anymore of those available and the ONLY option I was given was an electric car. Not an upgrade on vehicle size, or possibly another location...ELECTRIC CAR. I have no clue about electric cars and he said he would explain everything to me but for 20 mins all he talked about was the fees and "how cool" the car was. He directed me to the screen saying it will tell me where the charging spots could be found on the map and that they are free charging spots. But he didn't inform I would need an app for every charging station I go to. Nor did he tell me the car only charges to certain percentage and mileage (240 mi). When I called to ask questions about some of this missing information I was met with an attitude from him. He was unapologetic about circumstance I was in (the car died an hour after I picked it up--it was on 84% when I got it) and he wasn't willing to help me with an solution. He was very rude to my boyfriend who trying to get a solution since we were stuck charging this car for an hour. Then when I dropped the car off and explained to another rep he was also confused because he didn't know about the charging stations needing an app and he clarified there are no free stations. Christian then walks in and says "so y'all looking for a refund or something" in a very rude manner. And proceeds to tell me he went through everything with me and imply that I am a liar. When I'm fact he's the liar he didn't even show me how to turn the car off. When asked to to speak to the manager he said she wouldn't be in until 10. Funny cause we asked to speak to her on Friday she wasn't coming in that day either nor did I receive a call back from the manager. I am highly disappointed in this location I don't wish anyone to go through what I went through. They need to take communication classes on how to speak audibly and how to speak to customers. Christian also needs to take a class on how to be more empathetic in situations where he has a mistake. Altogether the location is lackluster they need more training and for them to have so many cars in the lot they always seems to never have YOUR car available so they should get a new fleet. read more

DO NOT USE HERTZ, ESPECIALLY THIS ONE. One star is far too many. Reservation made was not fulfilled. Had the same experience as another customer - they tried to push an electric car on me, and I've never driven one. They TAKE reservations, but they do not FULFILL reservations. They wound up giving me a smelly (marijuana), filthy car (that they use for Uber?) with over 100,000 miles. I drove it to my house, and parked it in the driveway. The next day, the car wouldn't start. I called Hertz, and they sent a towing service to tow it to wherever they repair cars. They still insist that I pay for the rental. read more

While surprise I ask for options to the associate but he was quick to let me know there were none. this location at 2105 US 22 in Union, NJ is a freakin JOKE! They give Dirty cars to people because they don't feel like cleaning them and then try to force people to go to a car wash to get it cleaned and detailed or they threaten you with charging you $400 because the floor mats where you put your feet have crumbs and such on it ...... I have NEVER in my life be threatened a $400 cleaning fee for a car if I didn't go clean and vaccum it out AND we DID clean the car we went over the whole inside with disinfectant wipes to be sure we didn't give a dirty car back. We were treated and talked to like we destroyed the car it is in mint condition and we were given attitude by every employee there, in fact when we questioned having to go back to the car wash a SECOND time because of bugs on the hood of the car...... My third and last time using this place for rental! I never experience a problem using Hertz at airports...in and out...as it should be! Every time there is a issue at this place for multitudes of different reasons...some policy that doesn't exist, Gold membership issue, etc etc etc. I have NEVER gone into this place and walked out with a car without having to be embarrassed and or aggravated. They make ZERO attempt to resolve an issue or to satisfy their customer. Their arrogant, it is what it is and if you don't like it, call customer service mentality is horrible. Not even the manager (female) cared enough to resolve the issue. Called Gold member cust service to get money back and they were kind and made every effort to help resolve the problem. I hate writing negative reviews and i bit my tongue and subsided from doing so for nearly a month... then the random unauthorized charges started rolling in on my debit card.... then i called this location to chat on it and the manager refused to get on the phone and would only speak through her lackey. they did nothing to resolve my problem only put me on hold with a ringing noise and then told me to call another hertz help number where i now wait on hold with more obnoxious hold noise (music would be a stretch). getting multiple random charges a month later on my debit card for tolls i've already paid with my own ez-pass. the location has thus far been no use and i'm filing complaints higher up.. complaints that the establishment should be filing. so anyhow they didn't even bother to clean the car i rented , and they certainly didn't offer a discount for this, i did have to awkwardly watch one of the employees windex the windshield on my request though. Add to this that because i needed use of their COMPLIMENTARY pick up service they made me pick up the car earlier in the day then needed. 'No big deal' I said so long as i can return at end of day when i brought the car back (as originally booked) - and reminded them multiple times to make note of this, that i didn't want problems on my return. What do you know, manager steve who I booked the car with tried to charge me an extra day upon my return, without a flinch or articulation. If i hadn't been paying extra attention and said "why is this charge higher than my original quote" i would have been overcharged unknowingly. No apologies of course, and then no effort to give me my COMPLIMENTARY ride leaving me with 2 miles to walk home. if it weren't for the reasonable prices i would rent elsewhere in the future.. and if they don't reverse these unauthorized double toll charges i certainly will. read more

I have rented cars from this location twice. The employees are great, always helpful and cheerful. The cars at this location seemed to be a bit worn off (perhaps because this is an HLE), but they are more than ready to switch out the car anytime during the rental. Not only that, they were willing to pick me up (for starting the rental) and drop me back (after the rental was over) at my place which was 8 miles from the location. I don't know many rental agencies who would offer free pick-up or drop more than 4 miles away. I honestly don't know why there are some negative reviews (perhaps the management changed after the old reviews). My sincere suggestion is to give them a chance. They were great during my rentals, and I hope that remains true for you too! read more

Unfortunately I had a very unpleasent experience with this Hertz. I called early in the week and spoke to the manager, who assured me that the reservation I was making for a specific class of vehicle would be made available. When I called yesterday to confirm for the pick up today, I was told they could not accommodate this request. They were unprofessional, not helpful and very rude. The young lady who I spoke to actually hung up on me as I explained how inappropriate this whole situation was. When I called back, I was told "they must have had phone trouble". No apology was given, and I was told the manager would phone me in the morning. I have not heard from them, and have already booked another rental through Enterprise in Madison, who were extremely accommodating and helpful. Both employees I spoke to clearly lack professionalism of any kind, and I would not use Hertz again in the future. read more

At first I was a little put off by previous reviews, however once getting there my worries went quickly away. The staff was extremely polite and friendly. The cars they have there were newer and clean. I rented a Dodge Charger for my road trip. It was loaded with features and was practically brand new! What more could you ask for. The check in process was painless and easy and the staff guided you the entire process at check in. Drop off was easy and convenient with the use of their drop box. I will surely be renting from this hertz location again! read more

The only reason this place gets 1 star from me is because I cant give 0 stars. I have rented from this location a couple of times and EVERY time there has been an issue, from the car not being clean to there not being any gas in the car. But this time takes the cake. I make a last minute reservation due to an emergency and was given a confirmation for my reservation. Upon arriving at the location I was told they don't have enough cars so my confirmation is void because it wasn't made sooner! So I asked, why didn't someone call me when the reservation was made, as apposed to waiting until i got to the location? A sorry was the response I was given. Was then offered to pay MORE for a Premium vehicle, ( So they did have cars) which made me feel like this was just a bait and switch. I will never rent from this place again!
