I'll preface this by saying that my real experience from pick up to drop off was pretty good. After drop off is where I had an issue. I rented from Hertz at the Detroit airport location. This location is well away from the terminal and requires shuttle service to get between the lot and terminal. My issue was as soon as the shuttle left the lot, I realized that I had left my AirPods on the drivers seat. I asked the driver if he could radio back about it and that I'd ride all the way back with him. Upon return to the lot (less than 10 minutes), the AirPods were no where to be found. I showed the attendant through my iPhone that they were there, but after 30 minutes they could not locate them. I again told them that they were just sitting on the drivers seat. They brought the car back to me, after being cleaned, and let me look, obviously no where to be found. I wanted to stay and search, but I had to catch my flight and no matter how long I stayed, I was never getting them back. They cover themselves with a sign right where you drop off stating "Hertz is no liable for lost items". Just disappointed that folks just aren't all that honest. Update: I guess my AirPods weren't lost, but taken. I kept checking the location after I got back home and they now now at an apartment not too far from the Hertz lot at DTW. I'm usually not one to write reviews but Hertz as a business themselves is a joke. As a business owner I understand the means of caring for clients, and good business. From the beginning of my experience to the end it was just the worst experience I've had with any business anywhere. All Omaha and Bellevue locations are very poorly ran, dirty, and staffed with rude and uneducated employees. I hope who ever is in charge of this company would see all these bad reviews and have a serious sit down with the board to make some serious changes. When trying to change my reservation from Bellevue, NE to the Omaha airport location I was told I couldn't because the airport location was closed on Sundays. We kept the reservation as is, and when we dropped it off, the Bellevue location was closed on Sundays too! If I was going to just drop off after hours at one location why couldn't I change it to the same situation at a more convenient location. Also we were explained we would prepay for gas for the gas we would use. Not the full tank. We returned the vehicle with more than half a tank and still charged for a full tank. read more

To say I'm beyond angry would be nice! I booked & paid for my reservation about a month ago. I called today to confirm. I arrive after work, 2 hours before they advertise there closing time to find the place closed! For some reason, it was too much trouble to tell me on the phone they're closing early? Called customer care to see about changing locations. $258 extra! Asked for a refund. 7-10 days! Transferred to customer care. Been on hold long enough to search this location via yelp & post review. Not one time has anyone said "sorry" or bothered to check in with me. Not one offer of compensation. I'm sorry but if I had gotten this phone call, I would have gave the customer a rental car from the airport & made this location pay the difference. What do I know I'm just a customer read more

I reserved an economy car via Hertz.com and asked for a pick-up. Subsequently, it took multiple phone calls to make the pick-up happen, each time with a different method (we'll pick you up, yes you'll have to come to the office, no you won't; we'll hire you a Lift). I eventually had my wife drive me to the office because I didn't trust it would work out. When I picked up the car, it had 3/4 tank of gas. Counter service was swift - they had everything ready, but simply handed me the keys and paperwork without even getting up from the desk. However, I did not notice that the rental paperwork said it was full until after driving away. I returned the car on the weekend and then called Monday. Too late... they charged me for the entire tank of fuel. I asked them to check the previous rental to determine how it had been returned. No dice and no offer to help. Lesson learned... Giving this Hertz location one star due to the manager putting up with a disgruntled customer (me). This location services AA Collision where they pick you up. The rental cars they have....it should receive no stars if I had that option. The car that they wanted to rent to me had over 30K miles on it, wasn't clean, had missing buttons in the console, smelled like hot dogs and tried to hand over the car with 3/4 of a tank full of gas. I really had to turn on my biatch mode and complain. I travel a lot for work and normally rent from Avis and this was the first time ever I've rented from Hertz. They kept telling me that the airports have different (aka better) fleet with newer cars. Well, I had to go to another Hertz location where they swapped out a POS rental for a better one. read more

I'm giving this Hertz 2 stars because of the free upgrade, but that was probably because the type of car I reserved was not at that location. Jerome didn't seem happy to have my business at first (first customer of the day) but he warmed up and became friendly. My 2 main complaints are 1. I could not use two different credit cards. I wanted the deposit on one and then the payment on another. Can't do it. Computer doesn't allow 2 swipes says Jerome. COME ON HERTZ! If I want to pay 1/2 with debit card and 1/2 with cash and then put the deposit on my Visa then I should be able to. As it is the deposit is tying up money on my debit card. I know I'll get it back but jeez - hassle. 2. The car I got - free upgrade to a midsize (Impala) was clean and full of gas, but 5% oil life and 4,000 overdue for service according to the faded sticker. I was going long distance so I got a cheap oil change. Ready? The oil was 1 qt low and dirty. The antifreeze was low. The washer fluid was almost empty. The battery water was low. The transmission fluid was low. And the tire pressure was low. Wow. "Have a safe trip" - sure Not impressed. I will probably use Avis next time. read more

They have LOST a customer. I rented a car from Hertz from Monday to Monday. Because I did it on the internet (who doesn't use the internet) I had to prepay, which I did. When I picked up the car I had to pay an additional $10+ so my husband could be listed as a driver. Our out of state business was quickly completed. We were in the mountains of Wyoming and there was a weather advisory of snow, low temperatures and snow. We left early to make it home to Nebraska before the snow started. We were just ahead of the storm. I called while on the road to see if I would be charged for the 8 days since I only needed it for 3 and was assured I would only be charged for those days. We returned it at night for fear that we may be snowed in. I called today and found out we were charged what I had prepaid plus another $16 because my husband was also driving. I called the local place and asked for the car back for the remainder of the rental but was told the contract was closed. Basically I was just ripped off. I also wanted a Jetta and ended up with a chevy. Chevy's seats sit low on your rear and then slants upward. All chevys I have been in, as did this one, cut the circulation off in my lower legs and feet. This is the choice I was given and went ahead and we took it as we had to be 700 miles away the next morning. DON'T BELIEVE what they tell you. DON'T PREPAY for anything. Make sure you can get a car you can sit in comfortably. GO to the business and make your reservation and make sure you can get a car you can ride in. Vicki Smith read more

WORST CUSTOMER EXPERIENCE EVER!!!! I would give them 0 stars if I could. I reserved a compact car for a week. When I got there, they had no compact cars. That's not my fault. He offered a mid-size for $8/day ($56 + tax for the week). If I had wanted to pay more money I would have rented a mid-size to begin with. I feel like this was a total bait & switch, figuring once you came in you would just take what they have. I feel if they cared about their customers the mid-size would have been offered at NO additional charge!!! read more

I wish I could give ZERO stars. I had an unfortunate accident that required my care be in the shop for several days. The driver's insurance, State Farm who has been awesome might I add, scheduled a rental for me at Hertz. When I called the West Omaha location they told me they couldn't have a car delivered to the shop in time for me to get to work. So they scheduled it for this location. I called and Austin at this location assured me it would be delivered to the shop by 8 am. When it wasn't there the shop called and Austin seemed to have temporary amnesia and couldn't remember that he had made a promise to have a car there on time. It appears form other reviews they don't deliver on their promises. I'd avoid them like the plague. read more

ZERO stars. Sent to this Hertz location by State Farm after one of their insured drivers totaled my daughter's car. Rental agent misrepresented the "LDW" coverage as being covered by her "basic insurance" and that the rental would cost her nothing. Upon return, she was charged $172 for this coverage, and State Farm refuses to reimburse, since she already has collision coverage on her policy and this was unnecessary coverage. Called and spoke to the original rental agent and he refused to budge, stating it's not up to him to know what coverage is reimbursable. I feel they completely took advantage of the State Farm/Hertz relationship to slam unnecessary coverage on an unsophisticated driver. AVOID! read more

Extremely happy with Hertz's service and attention. They really know how to work with their customers. Going through my insurance, I was in and out in less than 5minutes. The car they gave me was clean with a full tank of gas. It had leather seats and XMradio. I will continue to do business with Hertz. read more

I was very disappointed with this car rental place. I reserved a full size car weeks ago and when we showed up they told us they didn't have anything but a Nissan Rouge, he said this was an upgrade. I don't believe that! I asked what type of car qualify as full size, and the guy told me a Hyundai Sonota, but we don't have any. I drive a jeep, and this Nissan Rouge is smaller than my jeep. The whole idea was to get a bigger car for our long trip with two kids, and that didn't happen. Thanks a lot! We had no choice but to take it because we were leaving tomorrow. While we were waiting on them to clean the car a young lady walked in and said she reserved a Nissan Rouge. The guy that helped us helped her, and evidently they knew one another. They carried on with their conversation. They told us our car was ready and brought it to the front. As I got in and started to drive off. They brought around a Hyundai Sonota for the young lady. I really feel like we got screwed. They probably took our car and gave it to her because he knew her. I will NEVER do business with Hertz again! And I would NEVER recommend them to anyone! the worst thing i ever did was reserve a car for a trip with these people . planed a trip to saint louis meet family and have fun . i called the store many times and even the day before i was to pick up the car and they said no worries they had the car i wanted and my upgrade when it came down to it they tried to put me in a subcompact toyota yaris . no way all they said that they had no cars left even though i called and asked about the less than 24 hours prior to pick up . im not happy with hertz dont rent from them read more
