This is absolutely horrible. One person on duty when all the flights from the US come in - especially during Oktoberfest. It's a total nightmare. One person literally took 45 minutes and the whole line was was waiting. NO Gold service. Use some place else. There were 5 people working at Avis counter next door. Careful, be aware of extra hidden costs, please make sure the total amount on the reservation is in line with the contract they present to you. These guys are having fun charging you super cover for 47 Euro a day, GPS for 30 Euro a day service fee for 47 Euro a day. Do not sign unless you have asked for every position. i was surprised to pay double of the rental fee only for extra charges. they press you to sign here, here and here, be aware, wherever they ask you to sign ask before signing, as any claim later is useless. customer service hotline sticks to contract, manager on site is hiding in the back office, i was asked to wait one hour where the manager arrived after 5 minutes, and i could not speak to her only to worker, who defends his colleague of the morning shift. not honest, and you will not be the first one to get scammed who had suffered of this. shame on this station. THIEVES. BEWARE. Fake damage charges. Fake fuel charges. They will try to find small scratches that were likely already there, or even worse something "wrong" on the bottom of the car, and then charge you $900+. AVOID. Worst Car Rental Experience EVER I booked a vehicle from this Hertz location through Expedia and received an itinerary with a final amount quoted that was half as much as I was ultimately charged upon turning in the vehicle in Nice. I was quoted $714 USD and it came out to be $1400 USD! Car was not damaged, and I did not intentionally add on anything whatsoever. There were additional taxes and fees totaling €340.31 Euros. Per the Expedia itinerary, this should all have been included in the booking itinerary provided as it says the total amount reflected 'all taxes and fees'. At the airport, I was told by the agent that basic insurance was already included in my rate, which I assumed meant on the amount listed clearly on my itinerary. He then asked if I wanted to add premium insurance in which I responded 'No'. Per the final receipt, I was charged for both additional 1) Theft Insurance and 2) Voluntary Collision insurance for a total amount of €412.37 additional Euros. I went back and forth with both Expedia and then battled it out with Hertz for months, even getting my credit card company involved (they sided with me initially) but then I guess Hertz pulled some shiestyness and they reversed it last minute after it had been open for almost 4 months. To top if off, the Hertz customer service rep who called me was so incredibly rude to me over voicemail. There is a level of trust that customers must place in a company to do the right thing and treat their customers fairly. Traveling is a stressful enough experience without having to worry about something like cost transparency and ethical business practices. read more

Similar experience as last time. They are very sweet welcoming me as gold member. But when comes to substance-it means nothing. I paid extra for gps, but you can't use navigation and charge phone at the same time. Also, car was not washed or vacuumed and all mats were in the trunk. First time having this experience. So Hertz Munich, you have not improved. More f***ery from Hertz upon drop off. Didn't want to give receipt. When did give, had charges they refused to explain saying they have other customers. First of all, I started with Dollar car rental creating my Europe vacation (for September) in March, 2019. My trip to Europe was supposed to be to celebrate my 60th birthday and I wanted to splurge a little. I got a confirmation with Dollar rental for a Mercedes C300 or similar car for a locked in price of $299. for the week. I was very happy. When I got the airport in Munich, Germany, they had combined Hertz, Dollar and Budget Rental all in one office. Somehow I got tied up with Hertz and was told I would have a smaller car (BMW 118i) for twice as much money! My conformation was worthless. I complained, and was told that I could upgrade for more money! I just took it, knowing that I would deal with the rental company later. The bill was $600., I got two surveys that I filled out honestly, and nothing happened. I thought they would be concerned that I was an unhappy customer. They weren't. Hertz rental car at Munich Airport takes advantage of tired travelers. I had a reservation with Hertz for a car but once I got to the counter at Munich Airport they said the car was unavailable for another TWO HOURS - even though I was on time for my reservation.... simply because Hertz Munich Airport wanted to put me into a more expensive rental. DO NOT USE HERTZ at MUNICH AIRPORT! Then when I got my final bill it was 400 euros higher that my initial reservation... crooks! read more

We have used the Hertz rental company in Munich Airport multiple times. I have never had a problem. The desk staff are always so friendly. We have always received incredible clean and nice cars. Fast check in and check out. Our latest was just last week with Mike. I don't have anything but wonderful things to say about this location and their team. read more

Maybe 1/50 of star. Appears the rental companies collude to create very long lines for very tired international travelers (2 hours). Then when they finally call your number, that great deal they sold you is not available and they are going to give you an "upgrade". But then you have to buy their insurance which is only hinted when you made the deal. Turns out that their insurance scam is 3x the car rental. So, that $300 for 2 week car is now $1,500. But are you going to go to the next line and wait another 2 hours? No, you are not. And they know it. It's fraud on the travelers. read more

Outrageous fees. Surly staff. Long wait times. I was assessed $86 in fees for a gas tank returned 95% full (at most 1 - 1.5 gallons of fuel). One manager I spoke to insisted the fee was reasonable; another customer service counter was entirely unstaffed. I eventually left in disgust to catch a plane and it took nearly an hour of time by phone upon return to resolve the issue. There are plenty of other rental car companies at this airport. Don't subject yourself to this treatment at Hertz. read more

I got the worst nightmare from the Hertz staff at Munich airport. I booked online for a Hertz car for 13 days for a total of €400; but the staff (Mr. Hofmann) took my credit card and said the total cost (including tax and insurance) has become €2,140, which was absurd. I refused the deal and did not sign. He returned my card, but to find out later that he authorized the payment from my credit. 13 days later, nothing shows that the payment has been revoked and I still can't use the card because it has reached its limit. You have to wait at least an hour to pick up your car due to disorganized and incompetent staff. They don't show all existing damages on your car. You will never get what you have booked, they will always try to add some unnecessary extras which they get bonus on and they will always charge you more than expected. Here is my last experience with Hertz at Munich airport: I booked a car online and was charged 179 Euro for a 4 day rental. When I arrived Munich airport I had to wait over one hour in queue. During that hour I was surprised by the extremely ineffective effort among the Hertz staff. There was no apparently attempt to do something in order to reduce the long queue. I had already registered all information online as a so called gold customer, but I was not listed on the screen for quick service as I should have been. When it finally was my turn, I was very delayed and in a hurry and just signed the papers to get the car as quick as possible. I was NOT asked about extra insurance, which I NEVER use. The papers were ready for me. The car was returned without any damage and with full tank. The service here was very good. When I later checked my account I noticed that Hertz had charged me with an extra 207 Euro - more than the rental car charge! Hertz explained that it was a charge for super cover insurance, which I had signed for. I explained for them that I was not asked about any super cover and was in a hurry due to the delay at the Hertz dept at Munich airport, but my signature was the end of discussion. It didn't help to contact CEO for the Hertz company, Mrs Marinello... I will never use Hertz again, and herby warn future customers due to their cynical practice and advice you to take extra care at the Hertz Munich Airport! read more

When we reserved the car in the USA, the rental fee quote was USD 21 per day, 147 USD for 7 days. We thought our credit card company would have sufficient insurance coverage for foreign car rental. We needed the car for 7 days. When we arrived in MUC Hertz counter, the staff was friendly and spoke fluent English (waiting time was VERY long though). The staff threatened us if we didn't purchase THEIR insurance, in the even of ONE little scratch on the car when we returned the car, we would have to buy the car for more than 30,000 Euros. If theft, other damage happened, we would also liable for 30K Euros. We didn't want to ruin our vacation, worrying about the risk of being forced to buy the car at 30K Euro in the end. We purchased their insurance. The car was returned without a scratch, the total bill from Hertz Munich was USD 733.00, mostly the insurance charges and taxes. I wonder how other people get around this kind of situation? Rick Steves recommended that travelers should buy the most expensive insurance for the peace of mind though. Same thing as most of the users say. They scam you in all possible ways. - My gold membership was not recognized - They told me "We will give you an upgrade and full insurance - how about that". I assumed it was because I complained about the Gold. But I didnt get anyting - full charge. My mistake being in a hurry to sign. - Last thing was the final charge when they released the money. They charged 38 € more than the insurance on paper. I have been asking for the invoice breakdown for 2 weeks. No reply at all. - When the rental companies have your card number they can charge anything and its hard for an individual to process a claim. - Herz Geneva is as bad by the way. Never repeat never rent from Hertz in Munich Airport. The wait to not getting the car I booked and being told a lie that I was getting a better car was exactly 40 minutes the to return to the counter to get the correct size vehicle and wait 1.5 hours. You take a number and stand around like cattle waiting to go to slaughter. The new car died way out of town I paid out of my pocket to get it started because we waited 35 minutes for a emergency roadside assistance person to tell us Jeep had to fix the car they can't do it and they won't bring a new car to swap. Upon trying to exchange vehicles another hour of stories and both cars they did give me had extensive damages. The clerk said oh all the Arabs and Asians take full insurance and alway bring the cars back damaged. Try saying that in the states! If you break down you are on the road to heck. Waited almost 2 hrs for my rental. They ran out of cars. Showed me a smaller suv like scion type car. Went down to the pickup to be greeted by a 9 person sprinter van which was difficult to drive and impossible to park. Was fined for bringing it back and customer service is not helping. Worst company ever. Do not use. Have spoken with many people who say this location always runs out of cars and had many hidden fees. It seems that my experience was a nightmare. Will avoid like the plague in the future. It seems that my experience, and others, based on this review site, reveals that this company's business model is to up profits by systematically adding bogus charges and inflating returns in a very dishonest way, particularly to foreign visitors who have little recourse. I rented a Nissan in Munich and returned it in perfect condition with a full tank at Hamburg cruise port 3 1/2 days later. For the middle two days it sat in my cousin's driveway in Rothenburg ob Tauber unused...What went wrong? Let me count the ways...1. We received a parking ticket in Munich. Cop told me that the car rental co. would bill me...15 euro fine magically grows to 29 euro on the bill. Have since received mail from German authorities that fine remains unpaid. 2. Navigation system kept telling me to exit autobahns adding to trip duration, seems like bogus programing here, suspicious but I don't need to sight conspiracy theories to enhance this review. 3. Auto returned to port in perfect shape with gas full and on time when bill arrives they are charging me 218 euro for gas and 500 euro for "damaged" rear bumper and "missing" interior parts. (Could you imagine stealing interior parts off a rental to take on your cruise??) Not only are they crooks but very uncreative crooks. Who's going to fight from the other side of the Atlantic?! ....American Express says they will investigate but then reveals that they have zero legal clout and I should take it up with the vendor...good luck to me! ...Very disappointed to find that a company who has for decades claimed to be the state of the art car rental agency could be treating their trusting customers this shabbily. I was bumped from my flight so I would arrive 24 h later. I called ahead to let them know that I would be delayed. Rental was pre-payed and basically I would just pick up the car a day later and still return on the same day as originally planned. Guess what they told me? I would have to pay $153 extra. Pay more for less rental??? I needed the car, but believe me, that was the last time I rented from Hertz, and I will make sure my friends will know about this as well. This extremely poor customer service will cost you way more than $153. Way to run a company! read more

My travel can be wildly unpredictable. As such, I was redirected from London to Munich with very little notice, and happened to land right on the start of Oktoberfest in 2015. Finding myself in a touch of concern upon arriving late at night when all the Uber cars were gone from the airport, I decided to try my luck at the Hertz rental counter because National had already told me that all of their Munich location's vehicles were out (which was actually a mistake, but go read my review on Enterprise in München for the details there). Being a Hertz President's Circle member, I'd hoped that I could benefit from a little juice in order to get a vehicle, and I lucked out. The counter rep told me that he had a vehicle available, and we then started discussing pricing. I'd suggested using my corporate rate, which he claimed was more expensive than renting under the walkup rate he'd provided me. I shrugged, agreed to return the vehicle within 24 hours, and signed the appropriate paperwork, but did not sign or agree to any additional insurance coverage. The car that he gave me...well, I can see why it was available for rental. Yes, it was a relatively new Volvo XC90, and loaded with all the bells and whistles that a mom-mobile like that would have. It dinged at me for going over the speed limit, and had such a variety of sensors and alarms that I was surprised it didn't offer to drive me to my destination automatically out of the computer's sheer frustration with trying to reign me in. Unfortunately, it also had dents and dings on every exterior body panel (the counter rep said it had a few scratches), some gunk internally, and was dirty enough underneath that I'm sure the last renter had taken the Volvo offroad. I took copious pictures and went back to the counter to ensure that all of the damage was accounted for, because this rental was starting to feel like a bad idea. I was back at Hertz 23 hours later (10PM), and dropped off the car. The return section at MUC is shared amongst all the the car rental agencies, and I was told there was no return paperwork. Being suspicious, I took photos of the time and date in the car's dash as well as the return odometer reading. I'm quite glad I did, as I was floored when I got the bill emailed to me. So - I was charged for 2 full rental days, as well as 2 days' CDW/LDW insurance, "Super Cover", and "Diebstahlschutz". To say I was unhappy is an understatement, and I immediately rang Hertz customer service in the US, and they directed me back to Germany to speak to someone locally. After fruitlessly calling around, another local Hertz location gave me the email address to the station manager here, and I sent her a long and detailed note, including the return picture. She got back to me a day later and confirmed that the cameras had recorded my arrival time as stated and that I would get a refund on the 2nd day, but that I was still liable for all of the crammed-on insurance seeing as the rental had already been returned. I'm honestly so done and over this rental that I didn't bother pursuing the matter, but would warn each of you to actually check your receipts for any rentals at this location. So - why not 1 star? Well, they got me into a car, and I needed it for the night. It could have gone worse, but it should have gone far better. read more

Booked car on line for 3 days at $80, Got to counter and had to sign German contract for $150 due to insurance (would not allow CC coverage) , (was told bill could be adjusted on return) Returned car full of gas and no damages and was billed 300 Euro. (hard line response with no adjustment) I have disputed the credit card bill. Settlement pending. All information and billing was in German language and was not provided copy of initial billing. Reserved an X3 "or similar". Gave us a Jeep. We did NOT come all the way to Germany to drive a Jeep.

We pre-paid and then waited several hours to be helped. They were not present when we dropped the car off and put the key in the box. So first, they took the liberty of over charging our cc $500 for insurance that we had made very clear we did not want or need. Next, after we drove off, we saw that the car was only 3/4 full of fuel, however we returned it full....they lied about this and charge us a re-fueling fee. This is one of the most dishonest transaction I have ever had on every level. Apathy doesn't even come close to their customer service's accusatory tone when we called and asked for help on the matter. As big as Hertz is, it is hard to believe they can stay in business with such dishonest employees and terrible customer service. For what it is worth, I will probably never use them again. read more

Hertz Car Rental debacle Over the past 12 months We planned a trip through Poland, Czech Rep/Slovakia, Hungary and booked a rental car through a 3rd party booking agent with Hertz in Munich airport. The rental pick up was scheduled for 07:00 on June 16th, 2018 A Mercedes. Later on, after acquiring more details of the rental agreement and our travel plans, we booked directly with Hertz, ALSO for a Mercedes. We read all the rental details such as the following: must have TWO credit cards (including a Master and AmEx) an International Drivers License. To be prepared we brought printed copies of a $2M liability policy, a $5M umbrella, both for international rental, as well as the Citi Executive card international rental car coverage policy. The rental agreement states that Mercedes may not be taken into (former) East Bloc countries. Therefore we cancelled the paid car reservations we booked, and, specifically, made a separate reservation for a Volvo V40 for our trip that included Former East Bloc countries. Upon arrival at Munich airport, Hertz counter receptionist told us they did not have our car. We would have to wait for at least 2 hours as they had to wait for a return, clean it and get the car ready for us. However, the receptionist offered that we could get a car now if we paid for an upgrade. (this is laughable as there must have been more than 500 cars in the rental car garage) We responded with a 1 line reply which we repeated EIGHT times: 'please give us the car we booked, at the time and for the price we booked' The Hertz agent then declared that: 'we require you buy additional insurance at 25 Euros per day . The Hertz Agent never wanted to look at all the policies we brought. We repeated our statement. Agent response: We accept insurance from credit card if you have the right card. We have a black Citi Executive Card (and printed policy) with full int'l rental coverage, but this was rejected by the agent . Agen response: the credit card must have the word Platinum on the actual card, not just the platinum color. I have Platinum AmEx. Agent response: We cannot accept the wife's Platinum card. We suggested changing the car to my name, that was not acceptable unless we completed a new reservation for triple the price. Then the agent offers a Ford (same price as our booking) and a BMW (25/day extra) and strongly sells the luxury of the BMW. We elected the Ford, as we wanted the car/price/time we booked. We accepted the Ford at the same price and then he refused to give us the Ford. He was never going to give us the car, including the Ford he just offered, without charging triple the price we booked. The Hertz agent response to the fact of not having the car we ordered stopped our planned vacation at the start. After a long uncomfortable silence, after we again repeated our request for the car/price/time we booked, he offered: sign here (triple the price) and go with the BMW. Accepting the offer for the BMW placed us in a very UNcomfortable position; to take a prohibited car to the East Block. We would have to pay DOUBLE on secure garage parking than the car should have cost, simply because Hertz could not provide us with the car we booked. (€13- €30/day depending which city) We had no choice. As we walked away from the counter the agent told us his colleague (not one colleague to be found on the 4 floors we checked) will help with any question in the garage. We find the car and front and rear bumper and the side are heavily scratched and slightly dented. Not the quality vehicle we had in mind but after traveling/being awake for 24 hours, we had no energy left. Soon after departure we get an electrical fault indicator, lights, and obnoxious beeping. We pull over, check, all seems to be working. This goes on for a few days. At this point we email Hertz Executive Service and promptly receive a reply from Annette H stating: 'apologies, but I cannot process anything during the active rental. Please contact me, upon your return, and I assure you that this matter will be resolved to your satisfaction. ' Since this response came from executive and we do rent about 4 months per year, we trusted this would be resolved. I have since sent 6 more email to Annette H, but so far no response. Review space is limited, but the electrical fault turns into a trunk that opens when the car slows down (at traffic lights) and the car could not be locked. It ruined our vacation. read more

HERTZ MUNICH AIRPORT = Crooks. They deserve 0 stars. 1 star is being kind for how terrible this establishment is. I'm actually in contact with a Munich Lawyer over the treatment. I was wildly overcharged almost $250. Never received an itemized bill, even though I have requested one multiple times via email and after being home for almost a month, I just got another bill. Once again, I asked why and was never given any information. DO NOT RENT with this organization. Terrible customer service, car wasn't full of gas when I picked up and needed ad-blue, and finally, worst of all, they have never explained why my final charges were hundreds of dollars more than originally agreed on. read more

Hertz should definitely be boycotted. They are liars. They told me that because I had an international driver's license, that I needed to buy their insurance, so I did. I trusted them and I should have read the fine print and not trusted what they said, and here's why. You would think that it's ok to have "too much insurance", but it can hurt you. My credit card offers insurance with a $0 deductible, but their insurance had a 500 euro deductible. When I returned the car, they found a super tiny scratch that was on the bumper (and the bumper already had 10 marks on it!!, and this was so small, it was missed on the initial walkaround). It was so small, I didn't notice it. Then, I got a 480 euro bill in damages. I called my bank and they said they can cover me with a $0 deductible, but they denied me because I took their insurance! So, I basically paid $70 extra to UNINSURE myself. I had better coverage and I accidentally uninsured myself. The bank said - "ok, just get a letter from Herz saying that the insurance was mandatory, and we'll be ok with that". I called Hertz 10 times and they never answer the phone, so I had to deal with headquarters and they just said "what are you talking about? insurance is optional. we're not giving you a letter stating that. now pay up.". I was negotiating via email with them and in constant communication, and while this was all happening, I got a letter in the mail from a collection agency stating that I was unresponsive and owed them money. They are such liars. Unresponsive? I was so offended. In fact, they weren't responding to me, as I had asked them if I could pay by credit card and I was waiting for their response. I don't CARE if they are cheaper, I will never rent from them again. I hope people read this and do the same. read more

I wish I would have read these reviews before booking because I feel the same way. Not only was I over charged buy about $300 but I was charged an additional $122 12 days after returning my vehicle and being charged the already outrageous amount. When I called to find out why they said there was no reason listed and they couldn't do anything about it. The customer service is just as awful as their employees, saying they'll offer to suggest better training in the future. DONT WASTE YOUR MONEY! read more

if I could give this place a zero , I would. mid day munich airport they have 2 people working for approx 35 min , then 2 not happy the rowers appear ,,,total 4 people ; there are no less than 50 people waiting. One has to log into a kiosk and wait,,and wait ,,,and wait,,,,waited approx 1.5 hrs to speak with a person. I asked it was this busy every day and the young woman replied"oh yes"; so I suggest that perhaps they may want to gear up their help to coincide with mutitudes standing at this large international airport. The hertz area is a tiny section near the bathrooms(which appear to be few ) so there is a flow of people all around the small desk areas. we reserved a BMW and an older clerk over heard we were planning to drive to Italy and she said we couldn't...even though our destination was discussed in detail prior to making rental reservations. The younger woman waiting on us said she would get approval from "the manager " left and came back and said it was approved?!! so we are handed the keys,,,,,now we venture the doors behind the rental car company desks into a multi tiered garage with elevators and limited English directions ...no person to show us where to go ,,,,we find a person and they point,,,,we find the car wedged so tightly between 2 cars we have much difficulty even getting into the car....turn the key on and the symbol for low tire pressure comes on !!!,,,,drive to a little booth area in the garage and a non English speaking ? older maintenance worker finds a German speaking young woman ....we point to the tire symbol and she shrugs her shoulders and after a minute of piecing together what she is saying......that she couldn't do anything for us and suggests we go back into the airport and WAIT again at the desk to explain we needed another car....we said NO !! as we had just waited approx an hour and a half and there was still a large not happy crowd downstairs ,,,she said she could not do anything ,,,we left with the car,,,this is the worse car rental place we had ever been to.... suggest management do some quality control 101 with the employees on customer service such as the simple act of smiling ....perhaps management may want to do a real walk thru acting as a customer to experience the welcome they Give to their customers ....hertz is taking in a bundle each day and should be therefore quite able to provide a nice area with seats at least for customers waiting , a place apart from the smells and Rush of a large airports bathrooms, hire enough employees to take care of the people wanting to rent from them , having somebody actually get the car out of the garage and drive it to a convenient place where the functional car is waiting and keys handed to the paying customer....along with smiling employees who act they are happy to be working for hertz and happy that they have customers who pay their salaries...as it is now , avoid hertz at Munich at all costs!! perhaps if they loose customers they will get the message .... read more

Had a similar experience to other reviewer's. Reserved a car through a hertz partner (dollar /thrifty) In the US before my travel. When I got to the counter after a long wait I was told I had to purchase the insurance since I didn't have a gold or platinum credit card. I was told I could bring in the proof or email the proof of my gold or platinum card and the proof that the travel credit card that I used provided the required insurance and they would remove the fees from my bill. I signed on the dotted line and then they gave me an estimate of my bill for two weeks of use: 2200 euros! And no I didn't rent a Lamborghini it was a midgrade automobile. Needless to say I was flabbergasted but I took the car and left since I was a weary traveler and was Not sure I'd be able to get another car from a different rental car agency on such short notice. After getting to my destination and thinking about it for a while I decided to rent a car through Avis and return the car to hertz three days into my rental. The bill For three days rental was €755. I went to the counter and had a two hour wait before I could talk to the manager who removed most of the fees. My final bill ended up being €180 which I still think is excessive. I will never rent from Hertz at the Munich airport again.! read more
