This is by far the worst service I have ever experienced with any rental car company. I have rented cars from many providers, including Hertz/Dollar for the past 25 years and this one is by far the worst. I reserved a mid size SUV prior to my arrival at a cost of $347.41. Upon arriving the agent stated the car I reserved was not available and proceeded to force me to accept a compact SUV priced 32% higher!!! My family and our luggage would not fit in the compact SUV, hence the reason I reserved the mid size. In addition, the agent proceeded to add full coverage insurance which was to increase my rental to $1,200!!! Ridiculous!!!! If I refuse the coverage then I needed to leave a $4,000 security deposit through my credit card. Unacceptable! I spent the better part of an hour renegotiating to little avail. At the end of the experience I received the original reserved vehicle. The full coverage insurance was reduced to basic coverage and my rental cost increased to $461.54. I contacted Dollar corporate to file a complaint and request assistance with honoring the original quote. Dollar corporate was of no help citing that the location in Guadalajara is a franchisee; any rental charge dispute had to be directed to the local office directly. This is a joke to say the least as the local office is where the shake down occurred. I hope some folks read this review and think twice about renting from Hertz/Dollar in Guadalajara Airport. STAY AWAY! They are such a scam. Did my reservation for online and when I went there they wanted to triple my price. The explained that it was policy for renters Insurance and other surcharges. I told them like I really needed a car but the representative said she wasn't able to do anything. The manager Alejandro came over as I told the representatives cancel my reservation and he supposedly gave me an offer. Still doubled of what I originally booked but, I needed the car. The car was such in horrible shape that the steering wheel was shaking. Had dents all over the car and tires were at the replacement thread Indicator. They do NOT have COVID protocol for the cars. We pre paid online through delta given a quoted price that said "price at counter" of $580. Understandably every country has extra costs for insurance, etc, however our total price came out to $2075. FOUR times our quoted price. Not sure if the counter men get commission and that's what motivated them to quadruple the price or if they just take advantage but It was ridiculous. Supposedly we got 60% off when my friend got the reservation online. However, when we got to the car rental place. The final price is still the same. Even though the website says 60% off, it's just a gimmick to draw customer in. It's not too much over because we ended up paying $100 a day for a 7 person SUV. Just don't expect to get good deal like what the website said. When we go to the back to pick up the car, the staff was pretty quick. He pulled up the car and went back to get his tablet to record the damage with pictures. There are a lot of small Chevy cars and they all look pretty good. However, the SUV we got was a pretty old basic Dodge Caravan. My friend actually took care of most of the work because she speaks Spanish. Everything else seems Ok though. read more

BEWARE: Hertz in Guadalajara was the worst experience ever encountered in renting a vehicle. To start things off, my husband and I had a reservation with a price associated to the details of our rental which was around $360. However, when we got to this location the representative was charging us $2000 for insurance and another $1800 for the rental for an approximate total of $3800. This is nuts!! How did it went from $360 all the way up $3,800? I would highly encourage you to not rent vehicles at this place. They see people's need for a car and take advantage of that by far more than overcharging. If you get a taxi and ask for a rental car place the locals there will take you to the right place with a fair price. Again worst experience ever encountered, sadly. Also, I called Hertz and spoke to a Manager who referenced the reservation and price. To only say that they couldn't do anything since it was in Mexico. Avoid this place at all cost. I travel a lot to Mexico, and I always rent a car. First time at this place and they didn't have my car, so they upgraded me. With a very nice car. The next 3 times they downgraded me with pieces of Sh*t cars. I always rented a full size. Well one time they gave me a compact standard. I was lucky it had air conditioning. Anyways, today I arrive to Guadalajara and I go get my car. Reservation is done and paid for. They tell me in my face that they cannot honor my reservation because I had already used a70% discount earlier this year. I was so furious I hardly said anything because I knew if I open my mouth all hell was going to break loose. I said what about my money? They continued to give me a receipt which says they will return my money beginning tomorrow morning. I finally told him, why couldn't you have told me my reservation was no god before I rented the car. Why wait until I'm in your establishment. No answer, but we all know it is because they know some of us are desperate and need a car and will try and negotiate to rent another car right there and there. NOT ME! I RATHER WALK than give them anymore money. I going to the PROFECO to make an official complaint against this horrible establishment and I would encourage everyone else to do the same. Very sad that Hertz allows this location to carry its badge. As a Five Star member upon rental (now President's Circle) the location did not acknowledge my status nor made any effort in proving me with a Full Size 7 passenger SUV as Reserved. They had multiple SUVs in stock and instead of giving me Chevy Traverse they insisted on downgrading me to a small 5 passenger SUV or this joke of a 7 passenger SUV (see photos) which, had there been 7 passengers in my car I wouldn't have been able to fit our luggage. When I offered to pay more for a bigger car they offered me a BMW X1, again not a 7 passenger SUV nor ideal car for 5 full grown adults. I was told it would cost $275 and when they charged my credit card I noticed they charged me $275 per day and not total - very shady, shady, shady. Of course, I asked them to reverse the rental and after at least 30 minutes (post-red eye flight) agreed to take the crap of an SUV they gave me. Sadly, the return process was no better. They claimed the front passenger tire was low on air - I felt no difference in the ride and it did not look any different to me. They would not close out my contract because they needed to have the car "inspected" by their department. Again, how do you trust or believe anything they'll come up with if the whole process has thus far been terrible? The car itself did not have Apple or Android car play, it smelled like mold and it was minimally cleaned. I highly doubt any US location would consider this an aceptable rental. Do not rent from here. The location is far away from the other rental car locations and it's easy to feel stuck or cornered in to accept whatever ripoff they want to give you. Do yourself a favor and stay away from this location. Be prepared to OVERPAY! My husband and I made a reservation through the Hertz mobile app for 2 days at a total prize of $274 USD. However, once we got to their office at the airport they said our total would be around $680 USD with basic insurance for a mini cooper. We were shocked that the prize had almost tripled and told them we were no longer interested. After the lady adjusted the numbers our final total prize came down to $460 USD. My husband and I agreed, yet we then were told that we would need to leave a $800 USD deposit! This seemed ridiculous to us, however we really needed a car to get around so we decided to get the car since the lady said we would get the deposit back. I took pictures of the car during the inspection to ensure that we had proof of the scratches and dents the car already had. The car drove nice and returning it was smoothly. We got our deposit back, yet we still felt that we overpaid for just two days. Unfortunately, all other car services were all booked due to the busy holiday season. read more

I came on the due date, spoke to the same representative who now wants to close my reservation and charge me twice as much per day! To make a very long and dreadful story short and less pathetic, they ended up offering the same vehicle but manual transmission for 400 pesos more per day. Ridiculous! Will I ever return and rent from Hertz, effff No! Awful, don't rent from this agency! I had a reservation thru an airline for 14 car rental days. When I got there I was told my reservation was canceled. I was never notified by email not did their system tell me the reservation was not valid. I was told the reservation and prize were only valid for 7 rental days, yet their system allowed me to make the reservation for 14 days. When I pointed this out I was told it was obvious I had not read all the terms and conditions. My fee was more than doubled. They didn't even honor the quoted fee for 7 days. read more

I made a reservation online for a couple of day for about USD 200. When I went to the counter they told me I had to pay for 90% insurance conversar and that I was still liable for the other 10% (shady much?). My company has a corporate agreement with hertz and we have liability waiver with all of our rentals. After explaining this to them they said I still had to buy the third party damage (another USD 180). To top that off... they wanted me to leave a USD 3,000 deposit for the vehicle!!! READ BEFORE RENTING!!!!!!!! I called beforehand to rent a car here and did it over the phone with one of their reps. I was given a certain price of $150 BUT my mistake was not asking about the insurance part until after. I was told over the phone it wasn't necessary that I would receive a call from a rep to tell me their insurance options but I never received one. Fast forward to the day I get there they wanted to charge me $600 + for 10 days when I had already paid $150 over the phone. I was beyond pissed because I needed the car and they took advantage of this. I ended up paying $100 more! NEVER again!!!!!! The last time I rented was from Thrifty in December of 2017 and got a better deal and this was for Christmas vacation I had a way better experience, and regret not going through them this time. read more

They offer you a "deal" online when booking through Expedia "$59" USD for 5 days but somehow the car you reserved is no longer available when you reach their front desk. They tried to charge me $600 until I showed the receptionist the Expedia price that is when he reluctantly said he could offer me a "deal" of $275 USD with basic insurance or $400 USD full coverage. I took the basic but somehow I was still charged an extra $30 USD which I'm set to dispute. Do not let them weasel money out of you. Made a reservation by the AAA website. Bought the insurance online. Called multiple times to verify that the insurance was accepted and that no surprise fee had to be paid and got told multiple times just to make sure the online insirance covers in Mexico; which I did. When i got there turns out they wanted me to leave a hold for 53,000 mx which is like 2000 dls depending on exchange, if i didnt take the insurance they offer at the stand. Had to cancel and it was preferred to go places on uber and not to have to battle with parking and so forth. I booked my reservations online in Los Angeles to make it easier. I reserve cars all the time through Hertz or Enterprise and this is the worse experience that I ever had. My online reservations for 5 days was $169 US dollars. First you have to walk about 5 minutes to catch a bus that will take you to the office. I gave the girl the reservation number and she said we didn't get the insurance for the car. How much can insurance be, $30 per day? Nope, for full Insurance it was going to cost me $598 US Dollars and in addition they wanted a deposit of $2,025 to charge on my credit card. To me this was ridiculous so we decided to rent a car off the airport for $268 with full coverage. I have say that Hertz left a bad taste in my mouth for my first time visit in Guadalajara. Reserved SUV via Hotwire I show up and they tell me that they have no suv. Younger girl took my I.d and credit card to back and showed up with copies before I had to cancel. At the time I didn't think anything of it. When I got back home to the states I get a call from my bank asking me if I had just bought $1500.00 of plane tickets. I immediately cancelled card. AVOID AT ALL COST! I wish you could give negative stars to a location because this place sure deserves them. When I got there they told me the car I had rented through the my chase portal was no longer available. My options were to wait till 6pm (it was around 2pm at the time), or to pay an additional $180 for an upgrade; which was ludicrous since it was their fault. After talking to a supposed manager, who was even more clueless than the employee, they brought the price down to $100. I took it since I was really in need of a car. For an upgrade I was a expecting something more luxurious, instead I was provided with a dirty, dented car, and it smelled horrible, that smell only got worse as the trip went on. I know I should have said no and just cancelled the rental at that point, but I really needed the car and an automatic transmission on top of that which is harder to find in mexico. So I made sure I took videos and pictures of the car so later they wouldn't claim I did it. Once I started the engine the tire pressure was on. Things took a turn for the worse when I went to return the car. I went with enough time to return the car and make my flight, but the hertz employees had other plans. They were claiming that I had damaged one of the side mirrors, lucky for me that I had recorded and taken pictures of everything so I was able to prove I was given the car like that. But to get to the point of acceptance they had to speak to their manager, something that took a long time. After being given the ok they still had the audacity to ask me to send them the video, which their systems couldn't even receive because the file was too big, so they just ended up using another phone to record the video on my phone, needless to say I had missed my flight by then. To top it even more off once the charge posted to my account it's more than the $100 that they said they were going to charge me. At this point I have filled a complaint but it's almost a week and I yet have to hear from them. The sad part is that Hertz, a well known international company, is allowing this type of extortion to go on in one of their branches, because that's what those people are doing-extorting foreigners who are in need of a car. I went to Hertz to try and avoid that situation, something I know happens a lot in mexico, but it ended up being worse.
