I rented a car for a month from Hertz in Biarritz, France. I've never had an issue with Hertz in the states but this was totally different.
They tried to overcharge me at every step. When I picked up the car they tried to have me sign a document that would have charged me DOUBLE what the reservation quoted. I called them out on it and they blamed the computer system. I gave them the benefit of the doubt.
Then when I returned the car they added, I kid you not, $2000 of extra fees. Stuff like an $90 cleaning fee (the car was cleaner than cars I've returned in the states with no issue in the past), $150 extra driver fee (I'm a presidents circle member so extra drivers are free), $250 for an extra day on my rental (my daily rate was $50), and all kinds of BS damage (minor little dings and scratches), etc.
This is a total scam. Maybe they prey on American renters, idk.
If anyone has advice on how to fight this I'm all ears. read more
