First I've got to admit the office is state of the art and nurses who I had contact with were very pleasant That said, I gave Dr. Patel and his practice over $40,000 for a full dental implant procedure, on one of those occasions the office made a mistake and scheduled me for the wrong day so when I showed up there, I was upset with them because they clearly were mistaken. I had the actual text message with the day and time I was supposed to be there and showed them that then they got me in. Today, almost 6 months later I get a letter from their office stating that I am no longer welcome there because of so-called inappropriate conduct with staff And I am no longer welcome in the building Well, now that I've got a full set of been planting you've got $40,000 of mine of course you don't need me back in the office. Hello! My name is William Maldonado. I'm an unsatisfied customer. I had an appointment at 12:15 today. When I went to the front desk, I showed my insurance card to the girl working there. The card is a dental card that my employer provided me with two days ago. The girl took a look at the card and simply expressed that it was a medical insurance card rather than a dental card. I showed her that the card clearly says: dental card. When we proceeded with the dental cleaning the dental hygienist( Rany) just removed the tartar formation in my front teeth not the ones in the back, also polishing my teeth with a special paste or pumice to remove plaque and stains was a forgotten step which is needed to leave my teeth smooth and shiny, this step was forgotten or simply the hygienist was in a rush. Another step which I did not receive or was purposely forgotten due to poor professionalism or lack of knowledge was flossing between my teeth to remove remaining plaque or debris. 2 steps were forgotten and made me think about the professionalism of the staff working there and how they are going to manage to keep customers going to their practice. The poor procedure of removing tartar formation just from the front teeth and not from the rest, in addition to no flossing or polishing clients teeth, demonstrates a substandard kind of care that should not be given in the USA. This place told her she needed 3 fillings and could give her more if she agreed. Worst dentist I've ever been to and I refuse to go back. I went in today for an extraction, I knew it was going to be unpleasant and let them do whatever they needed to do to get the job done. The dentist I had was such a bitch to me the whole time. Bitching at me for tensing when she would give me a shot, then yelling at me for not being numb yet. Then when they asked if I used medical marijuana and I said yes the assistant said that's why it's taking me longer to get numb. Then the dentist said I need to cooperate better and that me using medical marijuana is the reason for everything. Then when the tooth was first loosened, it sent shooting pain into my jaw and I yelled, I couldn't help it and she yelled at me so much I started crying. Then she threatened to make me go to the oral surgeon with the tooth half out and in pain. She held onto my jaw so hard and yanked the tooth out and then yelled at me for crying and was so fucking mean My jaw feels like it's shifted to the right, my chin is bruised from how hard she pushed on me while pulling my tooth out. I had a great experience. Dr. Patel and his staff are fantastic and I don't say that to mean "overall it was a great visit" or "despite 'fill-in-the blank' happening, my visit was very positive" or other statement that has to be qualified. What I mean is that there was not a bad part of this process. I am 16 hours removed from my first root canal and I. Have. Not. Felt. ANY. Pain. None. I felt no pain in the chair, I felt no pain yesterday afternoon, and I am feeling none this morning. Dr. Patel exudes an air of competence that I found very comforting and it made everything go so smoothly. I'm a high anxiety patient who is unreasonably terrified of dental work and I'm a jerk for not remembering the name of the Dental Assistant from my first visit, but her soothing and professional bedside manner kept me there feeling listened to and safe at my first visit and 'Cassie' was fantastic in the same role the day of the root canal. They treated me with such compassion and I am so appreciative. 'Jay' handled my cleaning and I can't say enough; I've never had a cleaning go better and she took the time to answer all of my questions and talked me through everything. She is a goddess. I have had an issue every single appointment I've scheduled here. Twice I was told I didn't have an appointment scheduled even though I had the cards filled out by the office to verify I was told I did. It was extremely difficult to reschedule those appointments when their availability is booked out well over a year. Today I was told the appointment they scheduled me for, for this week wouldn't work because my insurance wouldn't cover it until May. I ended up having to schedule a July appointment that I will struggle to make because the next available isn't until after January 2024 (8+ months out). Also, if I wouldn't have called prior to confirm I would have went to this appointment and had to pay out of pocket for it. An absolute disaster of a dentist. I wouldn't trust him with an animal let alone a person. I went to have a tooth pulled. After giving me shots of novocain he let me sit....and sit. Next thing he says that the next patient has arrived so there's no time to pull my tooth. When I pushed the issue he told me they would no longer see me as a patient and he actually called the cops on me. After reading other comments I'm not the first time he's done such a thing. Dr. Rani is amazing! Prior to seeing her, I had a cavity filled twice filled on a different tooth at my family dentist in MD. On x-rays taken at a cleaning it was discovered that I had a developing cavity in another tooth which needed to be filled. I was terrified to have the new cavity filled because the previous two were excruciating. The first time he didn't even use anesthesia, the second time he drilled the tooth before I was numb. Both times I felt EVERYTHING. (Again this was a different dentist at a different practice.) But, my experience with Dr. Rani was COMPLETELY different! She used topical anesthetic before injecting, and a vibrating thing on my lip during the injection, so I didn't even feel the needle itself! She used tons of anesthetic so I didn't feel ANYTHING when she started drilling. The Technician was also awesome, making me less nervous/anxious about the procedure and was great at suctioning so I didn't swallow anything inadvertently. I will DEFINITELY be returning to Dr. Rani if I need another cavity filling. read more

I've had several negative experiences but the final straw was a rude receptionist who called me 5 times for one appointment to ask me to come in earlier than my time without giving a reason. Although in the past going back 12 years I would have given them 5 stars but they have gone down hill. My 2 boys had cleaning appointments on Dec 13 2023that were scheduled in March for 11AM. Prior to there appointments I received 2 reminder emails, 2 confirmation emails with links to confirm, 2voicemails and 2 text messages all saying 11AM appointment times. On the mourning of the appointments I received 2 texts and 2 voicemails saying one boy was scheduled for 10:15 and the other for 11. I did not check my phone after leaving work so I was surprised when the receptionist told me the one appointment was cancelled. After getting back home later in the day I emailed the dentist saying about how everything I received before that day said 11AM for both boys. I had a similar experience with their appointments in March. I was emailed back and was told I had a bad attitude and he was cancelling any further appointments and emailing me a records release form that I still haven't received. read more

Worst dentist ever! I had got some work done here and all the teeth that were worked on hurt so I went elsewhere and got x-rays that proved the dentist was actually breaking the bones in the teeth that would actually result in the tooth falling out eventually. Shortly after I found that out I went in for a root canal I had scheduled and he somehow went down so far he hit a nerve in my jaw to the point where I passed out in the chair. Mind you I never mentioned anything much. He apologized when it occurred and prescribed me strong narcotics. Then on October 23rd I went in for two temp crowns and a filling as usual they forgot about the filling and were irritated that I mentioned it. They did all of it but something didn't seem right because while I was numb I had pain. After novocaine wore off my tooth hurt bad! I called in the next day they were open and they said on my appointment on the 21st they would look. On November 21st I had scheduled two permanent crowns and a different filling and they were supposed to now look at the tooth that was super painful. They forgot about the filling and also didn't want to do my permanent crowns seemed very irritated that I mentioned them they found the permanent crowns after saying they didn't have them they went to insert them &doctor was super unsure of which crown went where which left me uncertain and the 1 crown did not look like my other teeth . The crown was super huge against my cheek and tongue side. I told the doctor and instead of shaving down the area by my tongue side he ended up shaving the bite side . He was also flipping out on me telling me I do not appreciate his work and do not trust him as a doctor and was not finishing his sentences but saying things like and maybe you shouldn't come and then would stop and obviously he meant to say back. I told him he was doing the wrong area but he didn't care he was so irate. I then reminded them of the tooth that hurt they x-rayed it and from another room the dentist said I needed a root canal and that he was never doing a root canal for me again that I needed to go to a Endodontist. I then asked if they could talk to the doctor to see if he would please make it so I was not biting my tongue, they told me to go check out and wait in the waiting room. I noticed my paperwork for the first time had a different address even though I lived at the same location for 15+ years Shortly after told me to come back & the dentist finally shaved down a little bit by the tongue side But again flipped out told me he hates people with my insurance that we're never grateful for what he does I told him I always thank him he said I do but the way I complained about the tooth that needed a root canal shows him otherwise and because I complained about my crown not being nowhere near the same shape as my prior. Which is obvious reasons to be upset I was too scared to even mention the address issue and just wanted to get out of there I was literally having a full-blown anxiety attack. Some terrible things were said by the staff in there I left in tears. I mustered up enough strength to call the next morning and let them know that the address was wrong and asked if they had my records correct even they were nice at first and fixed the address and told me they would have someone get back to me. To my surprise it was the doctor angrier than ever sounded like a full-blown sociopath just screaming at me for 30 minutes straight I had witnesses listening I even told him that and he had no cares whatsoever. I asked several times to have a copy of my invoice with the correct address but they would not do it. And I called my insurance to get a new dentist and file a complaint and see if they can help me get my records and when we called on three way to the dentist they (secretary)actually flipped out on the insurance company in regards to payment for my work the insurance was completely shocked and said they couldn't deal with it anymore and had to hang up that it was just the worst thing they have ever had to deal with at the job. I came in here the other day In massive amount of pain. I shouldn't. First when I called I asked to be seen a young lady by the name of Chrissy told me she "didn't THINK they could get me in" Nor did she even Try. She was dismissive with me! So as I'm looking for another dentist I call back to get her name to leave a review but another much friendlier woman picked up. She told me to hang on while she spoke to the DR She asked me to come right in. At the window I confronted Chrissy sternly "are you the one who was lazy and didn't even look to find me an appointment?" She got scared, and said "I'm so sorry I'm new here" The girl didn't even give me an option or look in the computer I was greeted by a tech lady who did X-rays on my throbbing cheek The dentist , a female Indian woman; explained I'd need to be referred to a specialist to have it extracted. She gave me an RX for antibiotics and Advil and Tylenol I asked for Vicodin She said "No they don't work" Yes they do. When i left and checked all they did was reschedule me. Didn't give me any information on where to go for my extraction. They were closed Friday sat and sun. I expected another office to call and get me in. No one called My head is pounding!!! My face killing me. I'm in so much pain i cannot sleep or eat. Nothing is helping. I've never been to a dentist that refused me pain medication. She acknowledged I'm in pain I asked her to numb me- she declined and said "it will only last N hour" Maybe she didn't think I was in as much pain as I'm in It's Friday night. 36 hrs after my visit. I'm desperate for a remedy. I am in so much pain I want to go to an emergency rooM for help. This place lost any kind of trust I had in them. I made an appointment with Hershey Dental strictly for the purpose of having four mercury fillings replaced as my regular dentist refused to replace them. I had an initial visit in March at which time a full exam was done. A pre-authorization was done for the work. When it came back, I noticed that 7 teeth were preauthorized for work. I promptly called the billing department and made it as clear as possible that I only wanted 4 teeth worked on, the 4 with the mercury fillings. I further explained that I had a regular dentist for all other work. I also want to note that I had seen my regular dentist earlier in the very same month as my initial appointment with Hershey dental. It was never noted in my chart that I did not want the work on the 3 other teeth. Moreover, my regular dentist did not find any pressing need to do work on those three teeth. I went to my second appointment the end of May of this year. I again made it very clear to Doctor Layton that I only wanted the 4 mercury fillings replaced. She acknowledged this and only replaced two of the mercury fillings at that visit. After the visit, the very same day, I had bad pain in a tooth beside one of the teeth that she had worked on. Also, the bottom tooth that she had worked on remained numb for over two days as did my tongue on the one side. The sore tooth, beside the one she had worked on hurt badly for at least three days. It did get better. However, nearly a month later, I still have low grade pain in that tooth. At my third appointment on 06/14, I again made it clear that I only wanted mercury fillings replaced since Dr Layton, at that visit, made reference to another tooth that was scheduled to be worked on during the 06/14 visit. However, when I got the bill, the bill stated that 3 teeth were worked on. I questioned the bill and the work that was done by phone call after this appointment. The billing specialist at first said that only two teeth were worked on, but then said later in the conversation that more research was needed. I received a call back on 06/22 from the billing specialist. She told me that there actually were 3 teeth that had been worked on. I told her I was very upset about this as I had told them I did not want any other work done other than the mercury filings replaced. She advised me that she would have the office manager call me but did not know how long it would take. The next day, 6/23, I called Hershey dental about the pain on my lower left side left over from the prior visit nearly a month ago. That had me come in for a check up only to tell me something about roots being exposed. I am completely confused as I had no issue with this tooth before Dr Layton replaced the filling in the tooth beside it. However, I will address this with my regular dentist. I also told Dr Layton that I wanted to talk with her about the work done on the prior visit. I basically told her that I did not authorize work on the third tooth. Dr Layton immediately said she could take it out (meaning the filling). She also said she goes by what is in the chart and said there was nothing in the chart about not having this third tooth done. However, a little later before she left the room, she did acknowledge that I did not want a third tooth worked on at the May visit. However, this was never put into my chart. She did have the office manager come to talk with me. The office manager wanted to chalk it up to poor communication. I told her that I couldn't have made it any more clear that I only wanted the mercury fillings replaced. To sum it all up, Dr Layton did work that I clearly had asked her not to do and I am stuck paying for it. I think this is extremely unfair. However, it is their word against mine. And it is very convenient that Dr Layton never documented my chart initially showing that I had verbally declined work on 3 teeth that even my main stream dentist did not consider to need work immediately. I will never go back to this practice. I would like to put it all behind me but I can't as I have had pain in an area of my mouth that was worked on. UPDATE After posting this review, I received a call back from the office manager. She advised me that she had done additional research and had found evidence of an e mail from the billing specialist stating that I did not want any work done other than replacing for mercury fillings. Somehow, this was not communicated with the doctor. She then advised me that they were going to reimburse me for the part of the filling not covered by insurance. She was very nice. As a result, I feel much better about Hershey Dental. I am raising my rating from 1 to 4. read more

I have been a patient here for about 5 years. I first went to them when I needed a tooth extracted and I didn't have dental insurance. The dentist was able to remove my tooth without referring me to an oral surgeon, thus saving me a lot of money. It was only a mildly uncomfortable process. I've been going there ever since for check-ups. Hygienists are thorough and pleasant. They are the 1st dental office I've been to where a check for mouth cancer signs is a regular part of the exam. Last week I went for a checkup and reported a lost filling in my back-most tooth on the right. Scheduled for attention about a week later. I was there for about an hour this morning. This is the first filling I've had in about 20 years, so I was a little nervous. Novocaine shot was much less painful than I remember - hardly felt it. The procedure itself was pain-free. The dentist was a woman - first woman dentist I've had. Practice has 2 dentists and 3 or 4 hygienists. She was very careful and my mouth feels completely like before the filling came out. They give a 10% discount to senior citizens, too. Turned out my procedure was less extensive (3 surfaces instead of 4) than what they quoted me as well, so I paid $200 less than I expected. I would recommend this practice to anyone looking for a good local dentist. read more

I had a great visit for my 6/mos cleaning. There was an issue with my insurance. Hershey wanted to overcharge me. I called twice to get the issue resolved. The lady I spoke to was rude to me both times. She said she would have the Office Manager call me. It's been over a week and a half and still no call from the Office Manager. I also asked for my xrays which were denied to me. I filed a complaint with my insurance. read more

My son (20) years of age. Called in to advise that his crown came off and he was in pain. The lady who answered the phone, after he told her how to spell his name 3 times, was rude in her demeanor and said they can't get him in till Monday (its Thursday). He asked for pain medicine, she stated well take whatever you usually take for pain. He said I dont take any medicine. She said well, we dont give out pain meds unless your seen. I call the same lady, the name on the card was Marguirite Caplinger, and advised that my son needs pain meds till they can see my son (btw, he is an established patient already), she said we can give him Ibuprophen, I said no...thats not working, he needs something stonger, he is in a lot of pain. She tells me to go see another Dentist then because thats all we can give him. Her demeanor was sarcastic and rude and showed no empathy. I would not reccommend this place, especially if your in pain. read more
