We were extremely fortunate to have Matthew Hernholm and the Hernholm group represent us in our sale and purchase this past year. We originally hired Matthew approximately five years ago to make our first home purchase, a duplex in Barrio Logan. Due to the housing market boom and our growing family, we decided it was the time to sell and find a new property to better fit our changing situation. None of this was done likely and after a couple meetings with Matthew regarding all the details of listing our home and potential new properties to purchase, did we finally decide to pursue listing our home. Matthew performed admirably in listing our home - we sold within the first week listed and for the amount listed. When we originally purchased our Barrio Logan multi-family, we knew it was an investment and Matthew helped us capitalize on that investment. Matthew provided all the resources and coordinated the third-party vendors to get the property sale ready. The listing went as smoothly as one could hope. Due to the current market, purchasing our new home required more perseverance. Thanks to our earlier discussions with Matthew, we knew the neighborhoods we wanted and the type of property we wanted. Matthew went to work and after a couple offers, we found our new home. We knew the current market heavily favored the sellers but having a competent, knowledgeable agent was a tremendous asset. The sellers played it hard and fast, but Matthew never missed a beat and was able to navigate the situation. In one remarkable conversation, after the sellers required a non-refundable partial deposit, Matthew with astonishing foresight predicated how the sell would play out and his recommended strategy in negotiating the final agreement. We followed his advice, were able to secure a more then satisfactory amount in credits and the remainder of the sell was largely uneventful. We end up dealing with a crazy B. from Sotheby's who is more interested in showcasing her jewelry than to sell a house. We unfortunately had to deal with the bald realstate agen the year before and he had the balls to tell us that finally we had made a decision. Team H (as I call them) is an extraordinary group of gifted real estate professionals who happen to be in the same family! I was referred to them in December of 2015, and our journey together began. My historic place, though a blessing to anyone fortunate enough to call it home, was not an easy sale. The gorgeous acreage, and the 120 year old home itself, need quality stewardship and care. It is a lifestyle, and so, through two springs, the Hernholms patiently and professionally marketed my home, and opened its doors to dozens of pre-approved clients. In the beginning, they referred me to Stephanie Malcomb to stage my home. After her and team moved my things around, the place spoke volumes to perspective buyers. That Hernholm referral was great. Next, their photographer took photos of the home that made me truly appreciate my ownership. The mark of an excellent real estate team can be their professional connections. After seeing some of the negative reviews on here, I felt compelled to write one to share my experience. I had the Hernholm Group list (and successfully sell) my house in Mission Hills and they represented me in purchasing our new home in Encinitas. We met with all of them (Janna, Melissa, and Matthew) and were immediately impressed by their professionalism, attention to detail, and drive to help us meet our goals. Our house sold in the 700's and so please do not think they only work really hard for the million + homes. They were really driven to sell our house for us. We worked directly with Matthew the most because he was referred to us by a friend. We LOVED his creative marketing approach (if you receive those great marketing materials in your mail, you know what I mean). We also really appreciated their strategies during the negotiation process. They came up with creative ideas that we had not considered and gave us valuable insight and input. This was our first time selling a house and I think selling/buying is always a stressful process, but it makes it a lot easier if you are confident with the people representing you. Unlike the other people who posted on here, I never once felt that we were not worth their time or effort. I never felt that they were condescending or rude. I never felt that they were pretentious. As mentioned, we do not have a 7 figure home (and we are in our early 30's), but this never made us feel like we were not being treated like the best clients they have ever had. They were GREAT. I always felt that we were a team working toward a common goal.
