Amazing campground in the middle of the mountains…read more We took a chance on this spot and we were lucky enough to snag the last campsite on a Friday at 2pm. Sometimes trips are hard to plan in advance, and we were ISO a spot with first come, first serve sites. Kudos to the universe for allowing the stars to align in our favor! + Along the Middle St. Vrain Creek + Two vault toilets located centrally between campsites + One fire ring (with grates) per site + Firewood available on property for $9 + Sizable tent pad, bear locker and picnic table + Walking distance to trailhead + Reservable and non-reservable campsites + 8 people allowed per campsite + Pets allowed We had an extremely enjoyable camping trip a few weeks back. Roughly an hour and a half from our house in Denver, Peaceful Valley Campground made us feel like we were thousands of miles away from civilization. For reference, the campground is about 8 miles away from the ever-popular Brainard Lake Recreation Area. We did experience some rain on Saturday afternoon which was a damper (pun intended). But because of that rain we were treated to the most spectacular rainbow and sunset. It was magical, just look at the pictures I got. The consensus was that we'd come back in a heartbeat next year. There's nothing better than going to sleep at night with the sound of a vibrant creek in the background. We're creekside campers and Peaceful Valley delivered an A+ trip for us!

Ahhh campgrounds! This is a little gem, down the Peak to…read morePeak highway sitting on the Ceran St Vrain river! Pros: River - it is the best white noise maker around! Tent pad - flat, level, "smooth", easy to get the stakes in, also have built in uhooks Paved roads 2 bathrooms Right at the trail head for the Middle Ceran St Vrain trail Cons: Fire Ring - it's about 6 inches tall... kinda hard to cook on Tent Pad - Most of the sites the same set up and really only good for 1 tent, great if you only have 1 tent! There is an ATV road between this campground and the next and that is all that is on this road, so some annoying quad noise, but you can't zoom around the campground, only to and from your site and wherever you had been. DAMP - super wet and moist... not sure if it was the time of year or what, but it was damp and humid! All in all this was a great place to camp. We hate site number 7 which was right on the entrance to the campground (total of 17 sites), but we were between a bridge with narrow wheel markers so everyone had to go slow, the river and the camp hosts - ahhhh silence is golden! The other sites in the middle were weirdly on top of one another. Careful when you book them, look at the site map! The culdesac was pretty nice but again there was a case where 2 sites were on top of one another and one couple has a couple kids - that would have been a nightmare for me! The center of the culdesac sites 1-4 were pretty good. Camp hosts were an adorable couple from texas, super friendly and helpful, but not busy bodies and into your business! I would like to try this campground again just for the other trails that you could get to right from your camp ground and figure out the best time to avoid the rain and dampness!

This is literally one of those reviews that I've hesitated to write. I just don't want to share…read moresuch a great place! Though after much consideration, I suppose I might as well be the one to share it with all my Yelp friends! Star #1: It is a first come, first serve, FREE campground. There is a paid campground nearby as well, so don't fret if you arrive and there are no sites available. However, it is such a hidden gem that I have yet to have the need for that. Star #2: Many of the sites are adjacent small streams, so you'll get to fall asleep to the sounds of babbling brooks! There are a few that are more open and offer lots of space for activities and larger groups too - bags anyone?! We tend to prefer the ones that are tucked up against the mountain. Star #3: The variety of sites makes it a great place for any type of camping: tents, camper, car, etc! Though, I will say, an RV might be pushing it... Star #4: At approximately and hour and a half from Denver, this campground is ideal for those looking for a close and quick mountain getaway without committing to hours in the car. Star #5: If you are like many campers and want to get some shooting in while you embrace your inner woods-person. Sugarloaf has got you covered! There is a wide open area right when you turn up the main road that is prepped for all your shooting needs. So go ahead and fire off a few rounds. Just don't forget: safety first! After camping a handful of places in Colorado Sugarloaf Campground has been on of my favorites and on of the only ones I have been back to multiples times!

This campground is beautiful. The tent sites have designated areas where you can set up your tent…read more You are not allowed to stake anything into the ground elsewhere. Loop A has both RV and Tent sites which is fine if you dont mind the sound of generators. You can walk to sprague lake from this campground. Each site has a designated bear box for storing all your food and scented items. There are flush toilets and a designated dish washing sink. The bathroom have had soap available. Im not sure how often the restrooms are cleaned but Ive seen the same dirty bathroom sink for the last 3 days. Most sites can fit two cars nicely. They do sell firewood, ice (2.50), icecream and soda in a stand near the ranger kiosk. The older lady that works at the concession stand is very aggressive and rude. We wanted to get ice cream and approched the stand and asked if they had icecream because we had not seen the fadded chart on the door. she responded "thats what it says right there"... ok we asked for two crunch bars which were 2.00 a piece... 1 bar was open and I asked if I could please have a sealed one. She because upset and aggressively snatched the open bar and threw it back in the cooler. She then proceeded to charge me 4.00 for 1 bar with out giving me a replacement. I handed her the other bar in my other hand and asked for my money back. Pretty sure your not supposed to sell open food items to customers nor be aggressive and rude towards them. Buyer beware.
