Herman Miller is the worst. I ordered an Aeron Chair and customer service applied the 15% website discount to the wrong customer with my same name - twice! I have been trying to contact customer service at Herman Miller via phone and email multiple times to radio silence. UPDATE: even worse - they messed up my shipping. It's been 2 weeks since my chair shipped per the Herman Miller shipping confirmation email and it's been sitting in a warehouse for the last week. Those people are so incompetent. read more

Furniture is not quality and management only cares about their positions. No one cares about production workers

We received the 2 everywhere rectangular table and just had time to put it together a moment ago and found some defect on the desk. Both are white table tops and the defected spots are pretty obvious as you can see in the pictures. Please see the attached pictures for your reference. Picture 1&2 -doesn't seem like it got damaged during the delivery. It seems like it's been made and put together that way since the edges are put together leaving the gap opened. Picture 3 -Black lines that we could not wipe off. There are few spots like this on both of the table tops Picture 4 -On one of the desk top, there's about 10 small dots that look like it's been stabbed or burnt Honestly, we are extremely disappointed at the condition of the desk especially because they are both white and we can see the flaws very well. I'm not sure why the table tops weren't wrapped with vinyl or plastic wraps. There were only styrofoam pieces to hold the table top in place in side the box. I almost thought the packaging and the product were those of IKEA except for the fact that these were actually heavy. LOL Not funny at all. This is definitely not the quality of the product we expected from Herman Miller and we are worried about the quality of the two Mirra 2 chairs that we ordered as well. Would I ever purchase anything from Herman Miller again? Uhhhh. Me thinks not. read more

Geno B. Just try and get through to a department for critical questions. Their phone keeps directing your call to a H.M. store and the same incompetent person keeps trying to send me to another company who just sells there junk. Customer Service is nil. I have a older chair set that one of the aluminum arms broke and I just needed to ask someone in engineering what the composition of the casting is made of, so I can select the proper weld rod or type of weld operation is best for this material. They are very very unprofessional and I seriously hope they go out of business. read more

Herman Miller is responsible for some of the most iconic designs/production in/of furniture history (and industrial design). I was super fortunate to get invited to tour H-M. During my visit, I was treated to touring a state-of-the-art manufacturing facility, a progressive workplace atmosphere and an overall World-class operation. I'm a huge fan. We purchased four Herman Miller DCM (Dining Chair, Metal Base) Eames dining chairs about 18 months ago. Of the four, two have since broken. We are an adult household, no undue abuse, and at almost $900 per chair, we expected they would last forever. In fact, we purchased this chair not only because it is elegant and iconic, but because we wanted commercial grade quality. We could easily have gone to the local furniture stores and purchased a run-of-the-mill chair at a quarter of the price, but we wanted top quality as well as first rate design. What we got was chairs that we are afraid to sit on. To add to the problem, we received a complete lack of support from Herman Miller. In our case, the bolts holding the plywood back sheared off two of the four chairs. We feel the fact that the same failure was evident in 50% of the chairs within weeks of one another, points to defective bolts with compromised shear strength. Herman Miller's response, when asked to replace the bolts on the remaining two, was to refuse to replace two bolts on each of the remaining two chairs--really, how much could that cost? Their explanation was that they didn't want to invalidate their own warranty, as if they had no control over the situation. Their position is that they will replace the bolts as they fail. So apparently, while they don't want to pay for four bolts, they have no problem putting us and our guests at risk. So much for dealing with a top-notch commercial company. I would recommend that if you want a chair that is iconic and durable you purchase Emeco's original Navy Chair, that is our replacement for nearly $4,000 worth of Herman Miller furniture. read more

I bought a Herman Miller chair with PostureFit about 3 years ago. The PosturFit piece recently cracked. I had not even used the chair that much. I contacted Herman Miller customer service who referred me to my local authorized repair center in California, who's customer service was absolutely atrocious. They told me they would place the order for the replacement part under warranty, and I should have the part in about 3 weeks. Nearly a month and a half later, I had received nothing nor had I heard anything, so I contacted the authorized repair center again. Turns out, they never even submitted the order to Herman Miller! Then they said they actually had the part in their stock and could send it right out. HUH? Why didn't they just do that in the first place? I had to live with a broken chair for a month and a half due to incompetence and total disregard for anything resembling customer service. I'm selling my Aeron chair and going to the Steelcase brand based upon this extremely poor overall customer experience with Herman Miller. read more

It has been almost 2 months since I purchased a special ordered chair, due to the high height adjustment needed, from Herman Miller. The office chair I ordered was not delivered, as the chair delivered did not meet the desired specifications. I confirmed the specs with the Herman Miller sales person, via email, before placing the order, as no definitions were provided for codes in the item description on the quote. Shipping costs were added during a "free shipping" promo, and the salesperson advised me to call the Herman Miller office to have it removed. Delivery was delayed, and Herman Miller "Customer Service" seemed to have no urgency to contact their FedEx rep regarding the delivery. Customer Service admits their errors via email, requests pics of the chair received, and states they will send a replacement. A couple of days later, Customer Service emails me to say a replacement is not possible, but they will do a return, credit, and repurchase. I responded requesting that the return be initiated, and asking additional questions before making a decision about placing another order with Herman Miller. Herman Miller goes silent for two business days before I follow-up. My follow-up emails are now being rejected by Herman Miller's email provider. "Customer Service" stated other customers are also calling in referencing rejected emails to Herman Miller. Promised returned calls are not received to answer my additional questions, after I called Customer Service twice in two days. Look at their Better Business reviews from customers before making a purchase. Then, use extreme caution, and document everything. My credit card company now has 30+ supporting documents to substantiate my dispute, as does the Better Business Bureau. read more

If I could leave a negative 100 stars, I would! I sent my 1950-60s (rosewood, down cushions) Eames Lounge chair to Herman Miller for a repair of the 2 shock mounts. I believe with pieces like this, who made the chair should also repair it so it's done correctly-like I would a nice vehicle. I paid approximately $700 with shipping for the repair after going through my totally inaccessible local dealer. I cried when I got the chair back. The epoxy was smeared everywhere, it was so poorly applied that you can see the thick, hard goop when the chair is assembled AND there was wood loss. After months of dealing with both Herman Miller and my local dealer, I give up. It has been a nightmare. My once beautiful chair still sits where it ended up when I reassembled it with no assistance from Herman Miller. I paid $700 for them to ruin it! I will NEVER purchase another thing from them or send any vintage pieces to them for repair. To all you lovers (like me) of vintage Eames or George Nelson, etc. pieces, if broke, fix it yourself! If it doesn't work, at least you aren't into it a ton of money and disappointment. Shame on Herman Miller. read more
