We stopped at Stokes Produce as this stand seemed to have more variety. The other vendor was several hundred yards away at the opposite end of the market. We purchased Georgia peaches, sugar plums, a seedless watermelon and freshly fried BBQ pork rinds. A $21.00 purchase that they reduced to $20.00 upon request. Stokes Produce had a few dozen fruit and vegetables to choose from, boiled peanuts, hibiscus bushes and even sod for your lawn. When choosing a watermelon, the young lady working that stand taught me how to knock and what to listen for when picking a fresh melon. Georgia peaches and sugar plums were fresh and juicy. My daughter and I ate most of them on the drive home to Florida. She didn't care for the pork rinds, but I found them fresh and tasty. We haven't eaten the watermelon yet, so I cannot report on that. Polite and friendly staff - they answered all of my questions. A decent experience, but I expected more vendors. William E. Lewis Jr. Vero Beach, Florida.

You can still find parking a couple of blocks away, but the area had a cramped feeling that it usually does not. The reason for this, I assume, is that this is a pretty impressive market as these things go. The setup is on a green square and allows plenty of opportunity to sit and eat or otherwise enjoy oneself, but shade is also available and there are some bathroom facilities on the square. The vendors were a good variety for a market of this size, including several fresh vegetables and local rice, but also baked goods and some of the sort of prepared food that you'd be more inclined to eat on the spot. Prices were high, as one might expect. But I don't think that anyone inclined to shop here would not find something distinctive and local to be worth paying money for.

Parking is free on the outer perimeter of the park and neighboring streets. That is a huge plus for me. Also I love that it is true to what it is which is local growers of fruits and vegetables. There is a couple of food to eat booths as well. This particular visit I was running late and arrived at 1pm an hour before they close. Since I was hungry I stopped at this booth that had dumplings or lo mein noodles. The dumplings were not reading so I got the lo mein had very little vegetables and the lo mein was okay not the best I ever had just average. Next I went to a particular vegetable stand that I have been to before with great success. Meaning I got home and the purchases were good. Last week I got a cantaloupe and tomato here. This week needed peaches for my Mother In Law. They were firm and the size of a baseball. Six of them weighed in at $17. Next I stopped at a booth that had pralines. I chose one with walnuts $3.00. The taste was very buttery and really hit the spot. Just as I headed back to the car it started to rain. So glad to just miss it. Note all vendors have covers over their booths. To protect their items and to keep out of the sun/rain. Definitely will continue to come here as I love the small town flair and every one is so nice and friendly.

Previously known as Wilmington Island Farmers' Market, this year (2019) it is located on the property of Lighthouse Baptist Church (401 Quarterman Drive at the corner of Highway 80 E & Quarterman Drive) on Talahi Island. According to their website, the hours are every Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. from March-June and September-December, rain or shine. Parking - There is parking on the premises. That Saturday, a few weeks ago, the info booth for IFM was located in the back to the right, if you are looking at the market from the parking lot (not sure if their location changes from week to week). They informed me of a Kids' club called "Little Sprouts Kids' Club". I got a card for each child and every time the children go to IFM, they get a little sticker (kind of like a punch card) and at the end, they get a little prize. That week's activity was making puppy collars and bones. They had a good supply of things for them to make it and my kids thoroughly enjoyed that. In general, I look for actual farmers at Farmers' Market (well how about that?). There were only a few vendors who actually sold local produce. My routine at a Farmers' Market is, walk around once and take note of the most intriguing vendors, eat prepared foods if I see something I want to try and then shop at the end. The following are the vendors I actually purchased from: Krazian - an asian fusion food truck. My kids and I shared a plate of chicken wings. Very good. La Petite Ferme Microgreens - Sweet Pea sprouts. He cuts it right there if you'd like or have some already boxed that cut at the market. Was still nice and crisp a couple of weeks later. Brothers in Farms LLC - hydroponic lettuce, both leafy lettuce and a hybrid of leafy and romaine. It actually has the root still on so if you need a little boost, dunk the root in water and put it back in the fridge. They were great with the Korean BBQ I made that night! Le Cafe Gourmet - croissant. So good! Savannah Rum Runners Bakery & Cafe - 2 cake pops (1 vanilla and 1 chocolate) and a Key Lime mini bundt cake. Cake pops were demolished in seconds by my kids on the spot. Key Lime Cake was for hubby and he thought it was way too tart. I did not purchase from these vendors, but other vendors that stood out for me were: Gruber Farms - the largest Farmer vendor there. They had quite a large selection of fruits and vegetables. It is strawberry season, so they had little baskets and big buckets for sale ($15). They had a great assortment of vegetables. T's Bees - local honey, right from Wilmington Island. Boathouse - organic soy candles and some artwork. I checked IFM's website and it seems that they have a lot of vendors than what I saw on Saturday. Maybe the vendors vary by week? I think that they have a good mix of vendors from different categories. I would definitely like to see more "Farmers" though. All in all, great place to get some local produce and a quick bite!

So as we explore our new home of South Carolina we head on over to Port Royal which is a first for us. Luckily we get a parking space directly across the road from this Market. We take our bags with us. First stop was Carolina Rice and grains. As we are new to this we get the rice only note bag says best to Freeze. It is $8. for a bag that is a little less than a pound. Next stop is baked goods I leave with a Tomato Pie ie very Southern are we and a Jalapeño Cheddar Bacon bread. We stop at a table that has sausages so we leave with Chorizo. Finally we get to the famous fresh pasta but due to the late hour everything is nearly sold out. We leave with a Bolognese Lasagna and a Pepper Tortellini. The person ahead of me on line got the last Porcini mushroom ravioli. We passed a fresh flower table but prices seemed a little more than I wanted to spend. The last two booths we get fresh vegetables Cantaloupe, Myer Lemons, Poblano Peppers, Zucchini, Yellow Squash. By this time you guessed it we should have had more bags. Note it assists greatly if you have cash which we did. I had an insulated bag for the frozen pastas and chorizo. We could have eaten here as well as they had food carts and someone that sold coffee. Really a wonderful outing. All the vendors were so pleasant and knowledgeable about their products. They were set up in a nice area with grass and trees for natural shade. We definitely will be back but will definitely come earlier as well as carry more bags.
