    Canned goods

I drove past Polk's several times always wondering what this place was. I always thought it was a garden center but to our surprise, it is a hidden gem filled with farm fresh produce, local dairy products, handmade goods such as soaps and lotions, and even boiled peanuts! They even sold local honey and jams and other canned goods. The nursery outside was different from the ones I've been to and carried different varieties of carnivorous plants, and other exotics I've never seen in person such as a cinnamon tree just to name a few. Lots and lots of varieties of both perennials and annuals that I couldn't dare pick. They were all so beautiful. Just walking through Polk's was so calming. Not to mention the service. The lady in the nursery was very helpful and nice and the man selling the boiled peanuts even gave us some peanuts to take with us on the road. We will definitely be returning before we go back home. What a treat!

If you're looking for fresh and local produce, this is your spot. Not only do they carry produce, they have Swiss Dairy milk, Hunter Cattle Farms meats, local honey, fresh eggs, butter, a variety of in-house made specialties, and so much more. They have a huge selection of plants, shrubs, flowers, and trees as well. Polk's has been a staple for our family over the years, but more recently, they have been our go to and first choice during these crazy times. Recently we tried the milk they carry from Swiss Dairy, and let me tell you that short of drinking it fresh on my uncle's farm, this is the next best thing. The sweet corn here is out of bounds good; I've never tasted corn this good, I mean really! Their chicken salad and fresh salsa is amazing. While the building is quite small, it's unfathomable how much goodness that they can fit inside. Polk's is literally a one stop shop if you want to make a farm to table dinner. The best part of Polk's is that if you request something, they will get it, whether it's from Hunter Cattle or some of the plants that they have. They are a true local store that is here for the community. Thank you for being there for us and everyone else!

If I could give zero stars I would. Worst customer service ever! A whole bushel of peanuts was bad and they refused to do anything to make it right. We boil peanuts all the time, we didnt do anything different with these. The Old lady at the register was rude. I will never buy from them again!

We stopped at Stokes Produce as this stand seemed to have more variety. The other vendor was several hundred yards away at the opposite end of the market. We purchased Georgia peaches, sugar plums, a seedless watermelon and freshly fried BBQ pork rinds. A $21.00 purchase that they reduced to $20.00 upon request. Stokes Produce had a few dozen fruit and vegetables to choose from, boiled peanuts, hibiscus bushes and even sod for your lawn. When choosing a watermelon, the young lady working that stand taught me how to knock and what to listen for when picking a fresh melon. Georgia peaches and sugar plums were fresh and juicy. My daughter and I ate most of them on the drive home to Florida. She didn't care for the pork rinds, but I found them fresh and tasty. We haven't eaten the watermelon yet, so I cannot report on that. Polite and friendly staff - they answered all of my questions. A decent experience, but I expected more vendors. William E. Lewis Jr. Vero Beach, Florida.

It closed for the 2018 season and then no news of it ever reopening in 2019. Thankfully, the Activities Coordinator of Magnolia Manor, a retirement community, of all places, located on Timber Trail, next to the Richmond Hill History Museum, decided to organize one! Today was the official launch! - Parking - Parking lot of Magnolia Manor. - Where - The vendors were set up on the portion of the parking lot parallel to Timber Trail. - When - May to November Third Saturday of the month 9am to 1pm Rain or shine - Who - The vendors are a mix of local farmers, home based businesses like handmade soaps, baked goods, crafts, jewelry, ceramic pottery and painter. There was even a local Boy Scouts chapter offering pretzels. Some vendors of interest: Bell Family Raw Honey - Richmond Hill Jones Creek Farm - Midway Beasley Ceramics - Richmond Hill Swallowtail Pines - Richmond Hill - fresh eggs, wool dryer balls, fresh rabbit Genesis Moon Soaps - Richmond Hill My finds: Cottage Chef - Richmond Hill - brownies were dense and moist! Carico Farms - Darien - Aquaponic and Hydroponic - bought some yellow jumbo cherry tomatoes and a live basil plant. Let's see if I can keep it alive. I've killed bamboo. I know... shhhhhhhh. Billy's Botanicals - Richmond Hill - Fresh veggies and local shrimp caught within 24 hours - Bought some edible flowers. Brothers in Farms - Eulonia - bought some mix of hydroponic greens. I was told that for next month, there will be separate sections for farmers/food vendors and crafters. Support local! It's great to see the revival of a Farmers's Market in Richmond Hill!

Previously known as Wilmington Island Farmers' Market, this year (2019) it is located on the property of Lighthouse Baptist Church (401 Quarterman Drive at the corner of Highway 80 E & Quarterman Drive) on Talahi Island. According to their website, the hours are every Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. from March-June and September-December, rain or shine. Parking - There is parking on the premises. That Saturday, a few weeks ago, the info booth for IFM was located in the back to the right, if you are looking at the market from the parking lot (not sure if their location changes from week to week). They informed me of a Kids' club called "Little Sprouts Kids' Club". I got a card for each child and every time the children go to IFM, they get a little sticker (kind of like a punch card) and at the end, they get a little prize. That week's activity was making puppy collars and bones. They had a good supply of things for them to make it and my kids thoroughly enjoyed that. In general, I look for actual farmers at Farmers' Market (well how about that?). There were only a few vendors who actually sold local produce. My routine at a Farmers' Market is, walk around once and take note of the most intriguing vendors, eat prepared foods if I see something I want to try and then shop at the end. The following are the vendors I actually purchased from: Krazian - an asian fusion food truck. My kids and I shared a plate of chicken wings. Very good. La Petite Ferme Microgreens - Sweet Pea sprouts. He cuts it right there if you'd like or have some already boxed that cut at the market. Was still nice and crisp a couple of weeks later. Brothers in Farms LLC - hydroponic lettuce, both leafy lettuce and a hybrid of leafy and romaine. It actually has the root still on so if you need a little boost, dunk the root in water and put it back in the fridge. They were great with the Korean BBQ I made that night! Le Cafe Gourmet - croissant. So good! Savannah Rum Runners Bakery & Cafe - 2 cake pops (1 vanilla and 1 chocolate) and a Key Lime mini bundt cake. Cake pops were demolished in seconds by my kids on the spot. Key Lime Cake was for hubby and he thought it was way too tart. I did not purchase from these vendors, but other vendors that stood out for me were: Gruber Farms - the largest Farmer vendor there. They had quite a large selection of fruits and vegetables. It is strawberry season, so they had little baskets and big buckets for sale ($15). They had a great assortment of vegetables. T's Bees - local honey, right from Wilmington Island. Boathouse - organic soy candles and some artwork. I checked IFM's website and it seems that they have a lot of vendors than what I saw on Saturday. Maybe the vendors vary by week? I think that they have a good mix of vendors from different categories. I would definitely like to see more "Farmers" though. All in all, great place to get some local produce and a quick bite!

Like 300 decibels will damage your ears loud. Can't talk to people you are with loud. Essentially this guy ruins all the seating and all the shade. He has speakers blasting at the seating in the shade, and actually he also has his speakers set up blasting at the seating in the sun. If you wanna sit down for a minute, you are gonna get blasted. If you wanna talk to someone, you better go to the parking lot to be able to hear and then be in the sun and also get hit by a car. Mr. Jamtastic ruins the venue. I asked him could he turn it down, and he was like yes, and then turned it up. It's horrible. Anywhere if there is a bench or a chair or shade, music is gonna get blasted at you. Horrible. Mr Jamtastic has three speakers. Two are pointed at the outdoor seating to prevent conversation. One is pointed at the booths to prevent being able to hear a price or talk about crafts or whatever without maybe yelling a bit. Loud music blasting over about 2/3 of the booths. It's like ordering at McDonald's where corporate has them play loud music, and the employees have no control to stop it, and then it's hard to hear. Other than that, here's a bit about the farmers market: Apparently it is the only farmers market in Statesboro. It does not have a website. But it's fairly decent sized. And it exists, despite no website. I think that the way you get info about it is to contact the visitors center. It's located in the big modern barn thing behind the visitor's center. Parking there will be full, but Southern Palace right next door had a sign that you can park there, and also you can park at the other side in the dirt lot behind the office building. (Parking might change in the future, and Southern Palace does lunch specials ok the weekend, so it is an extremely good value for lunch if you wanna...) This is heavy on crafts and prepped food. There were two places with live plants. One was peppers. That's Pepper Pride. He has an insane selection of pepper plants live and in season for planting in early summer. Also sells peppers later. Then there is The Potting cart which is herb plants and a bunch of ornamentals that are basically all plants from Southeast Asia. Not great for plants. Unless you want peppers, and then Pepper Pride has it covered. Awesome for eggs and meat and pecans. There were two booths with a good selection of meat. This is great for getting meat. Also had yard eggs and duck eggs. There was one vegetable booth when I went in April. I just moved from Florida, and April is harvest for Florida because the tropical heat means winter is growing season and summer is a dud. Not sure about Georgia and it might be that there are more veg later. Lots of crafts booths with crochet or jewelry. One lady had very decorated cookies. Like where you paint on the cookie. It's edible. But essentially it's art with the white icing then paint pictures on that (but the ones for sale are more like cute crowd pleasers and not edgy or anything). It has clean indoor bathrooms. No native plants or anything like that. Basically it's crafts not plants. It's really clean and most is in this shaded area. It's under a big roof barn like thing with most booths in that. Then some booths in the lot to the side. Honestly, could be super nice, but Mr. Jamtastic blasting to where can't have a conversation, including can't talk to vendors about there stuff is awful. Then the sunny spots is food trucks and pepper plants, which makes sense for outdoors but it is sunny and hot out in GA summer heat. This place would be a really nice place without the "DJ" piping loud music and can't have a conversation. It's nice facilities, then that guy messes it up. I would say if Mr. Jamtastic DJ wasn't there, this would be an awesome 5 star venue with nice bathrooms, amazing meat selection, and the set up balancing out me missing out on live plants and veg. If you want jam, pecans, prepped food, meat, and crafts it's awesome. Mr. Jamtastic blasting top 10 recorded music so loud you can't hear vendors makes it a dud, so 2 stars. If you gotta yell to ask prices and you can't hardly talk because all the shade has music blasting too loud, that's just no good. Also, I had been gonna sit and eat a cupcake in the shade, and I asked Mr. Jamtastic could he turn it down some, and he was like "oh yes", and then he turned it UP. So he is talentless blasting top 10 on speakers, not able to play live music because no talent, and passive aggressive and real mean about it. It's not just me, because there is a strip of grass between the barn thing and the parking lot on the other side away from Mr. Jamtastic and that's where most people were sitting with the car fumes and ants in the grass but away from loud.
