He picked us up at the Bath train station and took us straight to Stonehenge. From there we did a half day walking tour of Bath. The next day he took us to Lacock to show our kids all the Harry Potter filming locations, not to be missed if you're a HP fan! Then he drove us through a few quaint villages on our journey to Highclere Castle to live out our Downton Abbey fantasy. He even found a way to surprise us with a stop at Avebury on the way! Is it any wonder most students leave there with knowledge firmly in their heads, rather than "I forgot. I learned it for the test and then forgot it"? Second, why is the grass in the courtyards so amazing? Because only professors are allowed to walk on it! Can you imagine what would happen if we told American students that they were not allowed to walk on the grass, but their professors were?!

It seems that the only person "lacking variety" is the latter reviewer. I usually don't call out other reviewers but something had to be said before someone stepped on either of these landmines. Now, on with the review. Paul was the greatest tour guide in the history of tour guides... maybe ever. He was incredibly knowledgeable about the surrounding area and we were completely blown away by his attention to detail. Did you know that Thomas the Tank Engine was conceived on this route? Wild! Paul knew. He also accompanied us to Stonehenge itself and gave us an in-person walk-through of the site, which I hear the competition doesn't do. The other tours just drop you off and wait in the cafe for you to be done. A bit impersonal if you ask me. Paul even keeps spare rain jackets in case you didn't bring one to the Henge. What a saint. Need recommendations for what to do in Bath? Surprise, Paul's got them. If you are into art, then you know that the city of Bristol has really become synonymous with…read moreBanksy, an a funny, witty, political satirist who uses graffiti art as his medium. Full confession: actually my brother is a massive fan of Banksy and it he who introduced me to his art, and our whole reason to actually come to Bristol on a weekend getaway, was to check out the various bits of Banksy's artwork scattered around the city (the fact that we both just fell in love with the vibrancy and charm of the city of Bristol is a whole another story!) Banksy 'Love Cheat' Mural was the first Banksy we saw, and one of the tour stops during the Blackbeard To Banksy - Ultimate Bristol Walking Tour. The name of this artwork is "Love Cheat" and is a perfect example of Banksy's ironic sense of humor as the work is scintillated on the side-wall of a sexual health clinic. Our guide told us that Banksy apparently created a full scaffolding, pretending to be a construction worker and when the council wanted to paint over it, local Bristolians set up a petition that prevented the artwork from being painted over. The a few years back, the council decided to sell the building and what they did was genius - they listed it as an artwork with a building attached! The new owners have offices on the main floor, but the basement is a swanky cocktail club with a secret entrance. One things that took me aback was the size of the stencil - it's absolutely the size of a window in someone's room! Also, when I came in April 2019, it had been vandalized with blue paintball pellets - our tour guide told us those apparently appeared after a local radio interview in which Banksy admitted to a being a fan of Bristol football club with red colours (their rivals wear blue, hence the blue paintball pellets!). The second bit of vandalism is because apparently there is the local graffiti ''artist" called ''KAPE'' and he thinks its funny (ha-ha not!) to go around and signing his name over all the local area famous graffiti artworks! So when you see my photos, you can see both these vandalized bits of work too. Anyway, seeing this was just so amazing and super chuffed I got to see a Banksy artwork up close and personal. On a recent tour Ian was kind enough to put together a custom itinerary that my wife loved and even spend extra time past 5:00 trying to get us to all the locations despite us being quite slow given that my wife was very interested in all the buildings and takes a lot of photographs. Lunch was in a beautiful English Pub which is just what you hope for and the food was great. They're quite busy from Spring to Fall so reserve your trip early and you'll be very happy you did. There's really no better way to see the Cotswolds than this. Bravo!

There are three tours to choose from now: Tour 1 (I have not done [because I've seen them all before]): a tour of Stonehenge, a walk in Castle Combe Village, a photo stop at Cherhill White Horse, a visit to the Avebury Stone Circles, a photo stop at Silbury Hill, lunch at Lacock National Trust village. Tour 2 (I recently did): The Cotswold Villages Experience which includes very accessible and highly informative visits/walks through Castle Combe Village, Bibury & Arlington Row, Bourton-on-the-Water, Stow-On-The-Wold, as well as Malmesbury Abbey & Market Cross. Get ready to be absolutely immersed in the Cotswolds! While our guide was incredibly knowledgeable about the area (we learned so many interesting things!) and thoughtful of bio breaks, we felt the day could have been paced better. We were rushed at Bourton-on-the-Water and Malmesbury Abbey; but, we had *far too much* time at both Stow-on-the-Wold (all fourteen of us ended up standing on the street for forty minutes or so waiting for our guide to show back up; that being said, you should absolutely take Mad Max's recommendation to get lunch at Cotswolds Baguettes and eat them near the church with the famous Yew trees!), and - maybe because our tour guide had a personal connection to it - Arlington Row, where we spent a very, very long time standing in front of people's houses. Tour 3 (I have not done): special access to Stonehenge. I do LOVE these kinds of (almost) all-inclusive tours; they take away the anxiety of needing to drive or come up with an itinerary. They also allow you to truly take in the incredible scenery from comfortable small buses that navigate lots of back roads expertly! I just found this particular tour to be a little less personal than when I first visited a few years back (and compared to our experiences with the Heart of Scotland tours out of Edinburgh) AND I'm missing the more varied selection of tours they used to offer as well.

After being told, numerous times, told NOT to eat Lunch in Bourton and wait for Stow-On-The-Wold for a sumptuous lunch, we arrived in Stow to find every single pub closed, many for 3-4 days. We wound up having a lunch in a pasty shop that was, as a British Baking Show would call it "Not Worth the Calories. Jill arranged everything for our days prior to our cruise out of Southampton SEAMLESSLY! We arrived at our hotel, dropped our bags, changed, and headed out to Jill's van to tour the countryside... She is a remarkably educated tour guide! She had something to tell us about every nook and cranny we drove by! We toured Windsor, Wherwell, and Stonehenge on our first day (she tolerated ALL of us passing out in the van on the way back to our hotel due to jet lag). The next day, she had our tickets ready and handy... we got to Windsor Castle in time to tour St. George's Chapel before seeing the changing of the guard and then touring the grounds and state rooms; afterwards, she took us to Hampton Court Palace and a lovely lunch at the tilt yard cafe. Day three was as wonderful as could be. Given that Jill couldn't take all six of us AND our luggage on our journey down south, she had her wonderful hubby, Kevin, secure all of our bags in his car for the day while she drove us to Chawton (one of the last homes of Jane Austen), Bosham Quay, and Arundel Castle. Finally - after three amazing days of touring, she dropped us at our hotel in Southampton for our next day cruise out! I cannot recommend Jill enough. She was an asset to our trip, a phenomenal guide, highly intelligent, and a personality I could be around for a GOOD long time to come! I hope to get to see our new friend again some day! We booked a tour of Stonehenge for the early morning hours in December 2013, so we could go inside…read morethe circle. Jill picked us up at our central London hotel at 6:00 AM on time, and drove us out to Stonehenge. From previous emails in setting up the private tour, she paid very close attention to what our interests were and brought aspects to the tour that would be meaningful to us. After Stonehenge, she drove us to Windsor Castle. Jill is very knowledgable and made us feel comfortable and welcome. She is a very good driver as we felt safe in her capable hands. Jill then drove us all the way out to Stansted to our final destination. It was nice to not have the stress of renting a car, adjusting to UK roads and cars, and to have pleasant and informative conversation all along the way. I would highly recommend Windsor Day Tours to anyone. We enjoyed getting to know Jill. She is truly a kind and caring person.

So I'm a big Jane Austen fan and was excited to visit the center but have to admit it was a tad bit…read moreunderwhelming. First, the house itself has nothing to do with Jane Austen as she lived up the street as well as across the street. There's actually very little authentic items that belonged to Jane in the museum. Of course, that doesn't mean it isn't fun - we did enjoy the dressing up area and it was fun to see the period, etc. The film was also enjoyable as you will learn some history of her family, etc. and we also enjoyed the movie memorabilia from Jane Austen movies. That said, I wouldn't go out of my way for it.
