Whilst walking past the blue gates of Trinity College, we heard Simon say the next walking tour was departing in a few moments, and decided to join the group. Were we ever pleased that we did! This was a wonderful exploration of Oxford, led by a very competent and thorough guide. Simon took us to many of the important historic sites within the town, including the Bodeleian Library (which, unfortunately, is undergoing major renovation), Sheldonian Theatre, and Bridge of Sighs. Morse, Lewis and Harry Potter fans will be delighted to see several familiar places, including the Turf Tavern Morse regularly frequented. But this is not a film tour: it's an in-depth, historical tour that presents visitors to the city with a wealth of information.
Simon took us inside the walls of New College, a series of stunning buildings dating back several centuries. We were able to hear about the history of Oxford as we strolled through the Quadrangle, garden, Cloister and dining hall. He then took us to the Divinity School, pointing out its architectural features as well as important artifacts, including The Drake Chair, from Sir Francis Drake's ship The Golden Hinde. It was so lovely to tour these buildings with a guide who clearly knows the school and town so well. I really cannot say enough wonderful things about Simon - he was a fantastic guide, and we were very lucky to have stumbled upon him!
The tour costs approximately £10 per adult, and covers approximately 1 mile in an hour and a half. You can reserve ahead of time on the company's web site, or simply look for a guide outside Trinity College when you're in Oxford. I would certainly recommend the tour if you have the opportunity! read more
