In particular I'd like to mention Twyla, who helped me put together the funeral I wanted for my loved one. She explained everything in detail and we put together a wonderful service that exactly met the needs of me and my family. They make sure you understand the costs and pick something suitable for your needs. Everything down to the music was perfectly arranged. They also helped me with some of the official paperwork after the service. How they support your family during a very difficult time cannot be underestimated.

Our experience with Sarah-Ashley extended well beyond the parameters of what she was required to do, to a direction of what do we "need" to do to fully honour our friend and his families wishes and to respect his intersected experiences of his Indigenous, Mennonite and Disabilities communities. We had such little information when we arrived at Geffen-Mack Danforth location. The compassion and professionalism we encountered, immediately put us at ease and offered a comfort level which allowed us to feel confident to follow her lead as we navigated the days before the memorial. Both Sarah- Ashley and Theresa, the celebrant simply listened and captured all of the subtle nuances as we described him, his life, the bond with his mother and his affinity with water and nature; places that brought him pure joy and a sense of calm. Thank you again

So it's probably not the first place you want to visit but when the time comes, something's got to happen. I have been here for a few funeral arrangements and regular visits. When arranging funerals, there was a small conference room where the death certificate is provided to the funeral home and the options for coffins and even how they arrange funeral ceremonies. Their staff are aware of different cultures and a Filipino staff was assigned because its tradition to eat next to the coffin and celebrate life (not my thing but a first). The organizer provided us pallbearers at hourly rates but really didnt explain that we could bring our own or have our own guest carry the coffin - again we didnt know and they did not explain they just told us what we needed. Hence I dropped it one star. So if you're going to arrange a funeral, maybe not this location, you'll find yourself lawn mowed with options while youre mourning. There really should be a consumer protection for people in this emotional state. The facility is quite grand with high ceilings. But when you return to use the washroom and visit your loved ones, the facility must have forgotten to lock their door and were not allowing their patrons who bought plot and coffin to use the washroom (come on!). Seemed snooty and makes the location overall less accessible for all population. The grounds are kept, but there is not much done for plant theft (YES! PLANT THEFT). I dont endorse stealing from people and stealing from the dead. Bad karma. But there is little done here when plants are robbed as we experienced our own arrangements destroyed to nothing (because the plants were stolen). Dropped another star here. Ways to save money, you can pre buy your plot and even arrange your double stacked plot. It's one way to fight inflation. Hoses are available all around, and signage are everywhere. After this experience....definitely not buying any future plots or arranging events here. Sorry not sorry.

With our wishes being on the rather complex side, and the level and frequency of contact and decision-making involved, we were greatly relieved at the way the team's professionalism, patience, and support guaranteed a ceremony and a service both of which provided uplifting comfort throughout the process and on the day. We cannot recommend them highly enough!

St John's Norway Cemetery & Crematorium - Huge tree at the cemetery

I've written two reviews of cemeteries on Yelp. St. John's Norway Cemetery and Crematorium will be…read moremy third, but a bit different. The two previous reviews are special in that I know and miss two people whose final resting places are at these cemeteries. I know of someone who is resting at St. John's Norway, but I do not have a direct connection with him. My recent visit to my high school to celebrate its 120th birthday made me remember a teacher. He taught geography. I never had him as my geography teacher in the two grades (9 and 10) that I took the subject. However, my best friend did for those grades. When I was in grade 11, students and teachers at our high school learned of this teacher's passing. He was 47 years old. He was far too young. He held a PhD. He was a friendly person. He said hi to me in the hallways despite my not being in any of his classes. I don't recall the cause of his death. I do remember that we had the morning off to head over to this cemetery to pay our respects. I remember getting to the cemetery, but did not see a huge group of folks from my school there. It was weird and disappointing. I look back at the teenager that I was. Despite not having a close student-teacher relationship with him, I still felt the need to pay my respects, even though I wasn't successful locating where he was. I was a cool kid. This cemetery is the closest one to where I used to live in the Beaches. It's a medium-sized cemetery. It stretches as far north as Eastwood Road. It borders Woodbine Avenue and Kingston Road to the east and south, respectively. It stops at around Columbine Avenue to the west. The cemetery isn't a perfect rectangle. The main entrance is off Kingston Road. The main office is there. It's where you can get information and help. However, if you are looking for a specific loved one, this office can't help you immediately. Rather, you need to send an e-mail before you come here. Staff will do some research and send you the exact location electronically. I actually don't find this procedure to be weird, mainly because I contacted the cemetery to ask where my friend was buried before I visited her. However, I can see it being an issue if you need a more immediate answer. This cemetery is open from 8 am till 8 pm every day. I know that locals like to walk through the cemetery with their dogs. Dogs have to be on leashes when on site. You can arrange for a headstone for your loved one at a business next to the cemetery on the southwest side. You can also plan ahead and have peace of mind by purchasing a burial plot of land. St. John the Baptist Norway Anglican Church is located in this cemetery by Woodbine Avenue, just south of Cedar Avenue. There is church parking. When visiting a loved one, there is enough room to pull your car to the side of the road and park. I don't recall a dedicated parking lot for cemetery visitors. It is a older cemetery, so you'll see huge, tall trees throughout the area. It's peaceful and calming. There are also places to rent bikes should you decide to rent one to get to and from this cemetery. (203)
