When a loved one dies the family is usually in crisis, unprepared for all the issues they now must face; while at the same time, they're in the process of grieving and dealing with the emotional upheaval that comes along with it. We came here to help an overwhelmed family plan their loved one's funeral service. Important questions to keep in mind are: what are the wishes of the deceased, and what does the family need to help them with the process of grieving. There are many options (ask for the cost of each) that the funeral home will give you, but you need to keep in mind that you are the one who decides what you want to include. A priority list needs to be made so important issues are addressed. Bring a trusted friend, family member or clergy member who can keep a cool head to help sort things out. Comfortable and spacious viewing rooms and a nice little dining room to hold a reception afterwards. I appreciated that they provided umbrellas to get back and forth between the two buildings and your car when it rained. Staff are respectful. read more

It's not anything anyone enjoys doing; however, the staff at McEachnie were extremely efficient, responsive and compassionate. We had the viewing, funeral service, and reception at McEachnie. Dayle and Delores were wonderful Hostesses, and everyone raved about the food provided (delicious and abundant). We asked for a Caribbean menu and the catering chef did not disappoint. Perhaps a tad odd to review a funeral home but like anything else, it provides a product/service to paying customers and they're fair game for review. It's never an easy experience to be at a place like this, it's never just to look around, or price check. You're here because you're making arrangements for a loved one, paying your respects to a friend or loved one who has passed or visiting with their family. No matter what, it's not a happy time. So why 4 stars. Given recent circumstances in my personal life, this was my second time being here for a visitation/memorial and I must say the venue is lovely. The staff, easily the most empathetic people around (I mean empathy is their job) but really they go the extra mile to keep a grieving family on track and comfortable - anyone who has had the experience of losing a loved one that things can go off the rails pretty easily when emotions are involved. Even when it came to organizing the day of funeral procession, burial, etc they were wonderful and I know my family appreciated their help through it all. I can't speak to their pricing as I wasn't the one paying for their services but as a family member I can speak to their level of service and professionalism. I only withhold a single star for two reasons, not being aware of their pricing (which could be higher or lower than normal) and second the location is a bit awkward to get to given that it's on a one-way side street in Pickering Village. I hope I won't be back anytime soon (no one does), but if you're in the area and in need of assistance with final arrangements for your loved one, look no further these folks are wonderful to deal with and they will make the process of saying goodbye as seamless as possible. Our family, extended family and friends has used this funeral home. My experience with them was I found them very professional (as we had to bury a close family member). The original reason we used them is that we had gone to a few funeral's there and since it was close by and the funerals we attended there were always professionally handled we found our choice a no brainer (considering how many other things one needs to deal with when handling a death of a close family member): a) Pricing is decent (its a tough time to make decisions so take someone with you and make sure you don't go for everything "up-sell" as a lot of things you don't really need for example - everyday you have a viewing you are paying for the hall and facilities and services so limit your viewing to one day (and not two) The funeral home provides a driving service to drive you (the main family in mourning of the deceased) from home to their facilities and back again for funeral day and viewing dates. They help you fill in Pension Forms and align the Obituary notices in the Newspapers (if you choose this). We didn't find them price-gouge at all. We had a few days for viewing and in looking back I wouldn't pay for 2 days viewing (its a waste of money). Tea, Beverages were provided for family in the waiting area. Things like flowers are discussed, casket choices, urn choices, what the deceased should wear in the casket (if it is open etc). There are a lot of delicate decisions that one has to make and this place makes it very easy (well I guess that is their job and industry so it should be easy). The funeral procession, cremation in addition to the viewings and the initial sit down to discuss what the family wished for the deceased was handled with 100% professionalism and sensitivity. The staff were very respectful and made a difficult situation much easier to handle. They handled the death certificates (asking how many copies we needed and then reaching out when the certificates were ready for pick up etc). read more

We had the service for my cousin who was 29 when he passed. Because he was young and popular he had a lot of people attend his funeral. This funeral home provided the rudest most inefficient service I have ever experienced. One of the workers in particular, a short stocky woman with short blonde hair and glasses, walked around scowling at everyone. When asked if there were more plates for the food platters provided, she promptly rolled her eyes and claimed it was all they had. "You will just have to use napkins." There were not enough seats for all of the people, some were standing at the back in the doorway. This woman marches up to them and demands that they move. No please, no soft tone, just annoyance. Even at a restaurant this would have been considered poor service, but when you consider this woman's profession and the grieving people she deals with on a daily basis it is abhorrent to think that she is treating people this was in their grief. After all of the rudeness, they messed up the ceremony and failed to play the final song that was requested at the end of the service. The MC kept saying into the microphone "if someone from the funeral parlour could please play the song..." It went on for minutes. I've been to a few funerals, this one was the saddest in terms of the youth that we lost. It was also the most poorly planned funeral I've ever seen with nothing but rudeness from the staff.
