Great little shop in Leonardtown! On New Year's Eve, my sister-in-law took all the girls to Leonardtown to do some walking and window shopping while the boys went golfing. She brought us to Heritage Chocolates which is located in an old house. It's super cute inside with the left half as an open kitchen. You get to see all the yummy things they are cooking up! They have a large room at the front of the house with a velvet couch with the chocolates and candies displayed on bookshelves. You'll find more in the hallway and they also have a selection of handmade gelato in the back. We picked up some chocolate covered strawberries that were being made for NYE, chocolate covered pretzels and a chocolate covered apple. The gal who took care of us included an extra chocolate covered strawberry because she felt that a couple of the strawberries was on the smaller side. I thought that was so sweet! All items purchased didn't last long. We had 8 people in the house, so you can imagine the speed of distribution and consumption. I'm not aware of any other chocolate store like this in Southern Maryland. The place had ample selection of chocolate covered oreos and fruits and nuts, as well as boxed assortments, a ton of Easter bags, and gelato. I wasn't expecting the gelato, but it looked good so I gave it a shot. And I must say, the mint chip, which actually didn't look as appealing as the other flavors in the display, was quite impressive. There were a ton of fine chocolate scrapings inside that gave a slightly bitter contrast to the sweet and aromatic mint. The other flavor I tried was strawberry, which was forgettable by comparison. I did get a chocolate box sampler. The ones I've tried have been good, though I'm a bit peeved it isn't labeled. This place did not seem to be one that offered a ton for the dairy-free crowd or the allergen crowd, so figure there's a lot of dairy and nuts going on here. But if you eat those things, you'll be satisfied. read more

I finally decided to go into this little storefront shop after longtime Facebook lurking, didn't dissapoint! I picked up a dark chocolate covered Twinkie, a dark chocolate s'mores treat, & chocolate dipped peeps. I ate the peeps before I got to Charlotte Hall, & the other 2 treats were subsequently devoured by end of busines day. I plan on returning next week to load up for Easter baskets! This place gets me into trouble! Literally everything here is so good! When I visit my parents, I like to take my infant on walks down to downtown and the wharf, and I have to mentally prepare before getting downtown to walk past Heritage, or else I will always buy a sweet! My favorite to buy is the bag of the caramel s'mores bites! They are great because they come in a bag, are individually wrapped, and have a great caramel to marshmallow topping to graham crumble ratio. I can eat one and not feel as bad as eating a whole turtle from here, which is sent down from Heaven. The chocolate dipped Oreos are also problematic for my waistline because duh-addictive as hell. The staff are friendly and helpful. I like that the floor plan is open and that when I have my baby in her stroller, there is actually room for her to roll around. read more

Never been to the store but bought Heritage Chocolate pecan turtles at a festival. I've eaten a lot of turtles and even make chocolate candy but these turtles were sooo good. I'm seriously considering driving 1.5 hours to get some more for Christmas gifts ;) Try the pecan turtles, and send me a box! read more

I've heard so much of this place I figured I should try it out. They had a free salted chocolate caramel which tasted good. I looked at their selection of truffles and assorted chocolates. Interesting flavors by the names. Looking at the prices I wasn't so sure. I ended up with chocolate covered strawberries, at $2 a piece. What they gave me were little baby sized strawberries. If I'm paying that much per strawberry I expected large strawberries. Guess I'll stick with Godiva when I want chocolate. read more

Delicious chocolate and gelato! Kids can watch chocolates getting made through the big window inside (but only sometimes - not all the time). Stopped in on a Sunday and was surprised at the strange vibe I received as I walked in. No one seemed interested in customers and it took a while for someone to walk over. Honestly - most of the new businesses in Ltown are NOT what it used to be. I will not return to this shop- customer service isnt a super power. read more

When I first walked in, I wasn't sure about their business plan- offering pieces of truffles to you to try as you peruse the store. But then I tried a few and realized how smart this plan really is! After tasting them, I quickly put together a custom box of truffles to take home with me! Heritage Chocolate is my go-to place for birthday and holiday gifts, especially for the people that have it all. I love getting these as gifts or to treat myself. Third attempt to get chocolates here. 2x fails. First time we walked in, chocolates ok, but the hot chocolate was good. Tried a second time but was not sure they were open. Called their number, no answer, no answering machine. Owner tells when we walk in it is his personal number; what kind of business doesn't even have a business phone? Oh, and no milk for the hot chocolate. Third try, now our last (3 strikes...) no milk for the hot chocolate! Obviously the staff is not empowered to restock a staple during the day. read more

Recently opened, Heritage Chocolate, is great! The space is large and offers seating where you can enjoy your newly purchased chocolates. They have a variety, and the staff is very friendly. My husband purchased a gift basket of chocolates for me for Valentines Day and I tried their coconut clusters for the first time and they were insanely good. I have been trying to make them last. I am glad that I am not very impressed by their chocolate, as it is expensive and it deters me from going there more frequently. Their is a problem with consistency. They were making a pretty good caramel before but now it's too runny and too much salt on them. Last time I bought their chocolate there was SALT in it (cashew chocolate) which was not disclosed on the label and it was disgusting. The fillings are super sugary and runny. read more

First, such a great addition to downtown Leonardtown! Good quality economic development for the community. In addition, chocolates and other offerings are always tasty. Their salted caramels are always a favorite but we've tried many other items that we enjoyed such as stout filled chocolates and the caramel apples. I am eager to try the gelato offerings.
