I am incredibly impressed with Village Park ... and the city of Kannapolis as a whole! My husband…read moreand I attended the opening show of their free summer concert series, and we were in awe of how well-maintained this park is, and how organized our entire experience was. We arrived around 5:30 PM to claim our seats on the lawn, and thankfully we were able to find a parking spot right near the pedestrian bridge across the street. The city posted a very detailed map of parking options on their Instagram page ... and the amazing thing is, not only is all of that parking free, but there is a free shuttle that will take folks back and forth to their spots if they are unable to walk that far (or even if they just don't want to!) The openers started at 7 PM, and then the main act started around 8:15 PM. This gave the crowd plenty of time to get situated in their spots, grab some snacks, hit the restrooms, or even ride the carousel! This was a family-friendly outdoor concert, and they did a great job of having food/drink/activities for both kids and adults to enjoy. A glass of wine or a can of beer was just $5 each ... which felt like a steal since I'm used to spending more than double that for the same pour at other concert venues. The show itself was awesome ... we saw The Fray and they were everything we wanted them to be and more. The sound and lighting were both great. The layout of the park allowed many folks to stay in their folding chairs for the majority of the show, and still be able to see what was going on on-stage. Five stars all around for Village Park and the city of Kannapolis ... more cities should take note of what a great job they are doing here to engage their community!

Camping hours locks you in after closing with private access should you need to exit. Ranger is a friendly bloke that was so helpful. Peaceful, full hookups and onsite black tank disposal. Note, it's a public park - so you're not going to have control over whom your neighbours are, but we got lucky and the possible problem guests were leaving as we arrived (yay!).

There's also a carousel, a barnyard to pet farm animals, an aquarium/exhibit with live animals inside of it in the nature center, a splash pad, mini golf, trails for walking, and some wildlife habitats outside that have wild animals as well. We didn't get to do the train, as it was closed; but there was still so much to enjoy at the park. Me and my bestie brought our kids and they had a blast! We spent a solid 2-3 hrs there and had a great time. It's also very inexpensive!! Some things that I will say is that the bathrooms are not very clean and don't even work but it's an old place, so that's to be expected and we're not there to use the restroom, we're there to play! Bring cash for extra things, like carousel, barnyard, animal exhibits, etc...sometimes their card reader doesn't work and they can only accept cash. There's even a cute place to shop where you purchase tickets for everything with toys and snacks inside! All in all, we had a great time! Keep in mind this place is old, but it definitely still has charm, and stands out against the other parks around. The animal exhibits, including the barnyard petting activity is a hit or miss, because this place is not a zoo. The animals have plenty of room to hide and/or roam to get space, which is a great thing!!! But some people might be upset after paying and not really being able to see the animals. Highly recommend!!! Go if you haven't!!!!

Every three weeks after her treatments we go for a short walk around the park since it's right across the street. Today, we received some devastating news about her cancer and so after her appointment we went to the park to have a moment with her before driving back to Greensboro. We were kicked out. We've never seen any signs nor has anyone ever approached us about no dogs being allowed. We've seen many other people with their little dogs as well. It felt like a punch in the gut. A place we went for solace just added to our pain.

They are constantly blaring music above appropriate decibel levels. Sometimes before 8am on a Saturday and passed 9pm on weekdays. To the point the noise rattles our homes and blares through the walls. I moved to this area thinking it would be quiet and peaceful, it has been anything but. I reached out to Eunice Donnelly the park and Rec "director" and she did nothing to resolve the matter. She kept directing me to their website for events which half the events they've run this summer aren't even posted on the website! The park is great, the directors and management team are terrible however. She should be removed. They need a true lesson in organization and also respect- the golden rule. They don't care about our community and that is clear now.

I am not sure if Lincoln County is keeping up the maintenance on it. This park has multiple multi-sport fields with soccer goals and lacrosse nets on hand. There is a 3/4 mile asphalt path around the fields for running/walking. Kids have a small playground with some swings, merry-go-round, two climbing gyms and slides. There are two dog runs one for big and one for small dogs. Both are devoid of grass and need attention. There is a large outdoor picnic shelter with restrooms and water fountains. Last of all the disc golf course created by some Eagle Scouts just off the edge of the north side of the park. It is well conceived but overgrown and not maintained. I have written the county about the minimal maintenance needed to bring this park up to a great place, and I encourage you to do the same. recreation@lincolncounty.org

The lights go on and on, and you truly could walk for hours without seeing the same thing twice. There isn't a set route or strict structure--you can walk as much as you want and in any order. We ended up logging about 13,000 steps and 5.5 miles, which really says a lot. Because it was extremely cold, it wasn't very busy at all. We chatted with a few people who mentioned that it's usually packed, so the cold definitely kept some visitors home. A really nice touch was the fire department handing out free hot chocolate, just asking for donations. Having something warm to sip on made a huge difference on such a cold night. I was fully bundled up--leggings with pants over them, socks plus fuzzy socks, UGG boots, a turtleneck, heavy sweater, jacket, hat covering my ears, and gloves--and I'd strongly recommend dressing just as warm if you plan to walk it. We did a mix of walking and a little driving, but driving is limited to certain areas. If you want to see the most lights, walking is the way to go. Overall, it's absolutely worth visiting--this is a true holiday experience. Just keep in mind that McAdenville is very small, and aside from the Christmas lights, there isn't much else to do in town. Still, for the festive atmosphere alone, it's well worth the trip.

It is HUGE! Absolutely a Christmas town in USA. Many of the little shops are open for you to look in and get warm for a second. Churches open their doors for bathrooms. One offered a craft. All the fire stations gave away hot chocolate while walking. You can drive through or walk. It was such a magical evening. I recommend going. So worth it. You can take pictures on most porches :)
