This place is pretty cool. I like to try and make my own lip balms, salves, bath fizzies etc. At Herbwise I can find the essence oils and the base ingredients such as beeswax or EVCO (coconut oil). Also ingredients such as cinnamon and coriander and other herbs and spices. You help yourself and pour them into a bag, weigh it out and bring out up to the register and pay by the weight. I love it! No waste! They also sell the jars here needed to make my balms and salves. Living on Westerly for over 10 years, I must admit that parking downtown does scare me. There's never any spots. Although the handful of times I've decided to go to Herbwise I've gotten extremely lucky with parking right on front. I can't help you out here. I have no good tips or secrets for parking near here. This place is great, it has an amazing selection of of natural products and everything in between. I could seriously spend hours just looking through everything they have there. They have natural foods, supplements, lotions, soaps and more. When I go in it's usually for a specific product that I'm looking for. She usually has it, or some variation of it. I just paid them a visit the other day to get some kind of topical headache remedy. Tylenol just wasn't working for me and I can't take anything else. She had two different types and I went with the most herb-y one, it was pricy but aren't all natural stores and products? They validate your ticket for parking if you can't get a park on the street, which you usually can't. Customer service is always friendly. The only reason I didn't give 5 stars is because I had asked her to order a specific product for me and she would write it down saying that she would, she never did. Finally after checking back four separate times and her never having I gave up and just ordered it in bulk online. She could have just been honest and told me she didn't have intentions on ordering it in the first place and saved me the trip. Overall, this a good place. read more

I was very excited to find Herbwise because I have very sensitive skin and am always in need of natural and organic products. The first time I went it, the woman there ignored me but the man was friendly and helpful. On my second visit, they were both friendly and very involved in helping my husband and I find what we were looking for. I am excited to say they helped me find my new favorite lotion! I'm so glad I tried it, because even Dove soaps and lotions make me break out. Coconut Skin Trip is the best and they recommended it! The only thing I don't like about Herbwise is that their hours are terrible. I'd probably pop in more often if they had more convenient hours. Other than that, I'm a fan. read more

I was very surprised when I walked in today. Not only did they have everything I was looking for, I couldn't stop walking around because everything was catching my eye!! It's truly a playground for health and wellness. I went in to buy supplements for my 6 year old son, and wish I had more time.. I will go here for all my shopping from now on. The only thing I did notice is the Toms of Maine products. They used to be natural until bought out by a big corporation. As long as you read labels and are smart about where your ingredients come from your ahead of the game.. Love the women helping as well. I was welcomed in with big smiles and friendly attitudes. Excellent assortment of vitamins, supplements, teas and herbs, bulk and packaged. Very knowledgable and friendly staff. It gets a bit cramped in that back corner but the store is very cozy and comfortable. I would like to see more medicinal mushroom products (such as Fungi Perfecti) and super foods, but for what's available this is the best spot in the area. read more

As with all health food, you can't help but feel they're a bit overpriced, but with a limited selection in the local grocery stores, it's nice to find the organic thing you need, even if you need to pay more for it. What I love most is the wall of herbs and spices that you can buy by the ounce. I don't think there are any I've needed that I couldn't find on that wall, including nutritional yeast, stevia, and yellow burdock (to cure my dog's ear mites). As much as I wish eating healthy didn't cost so much, I'm very grateful for stores like this making it at least available. read more

Overpriced and more for vitamins and some packaged foods than anything fresh -- I'm glad we have something in the area, but I wish it were something like Foodworks in Old Saybrook!
