The…read moretrails farther from the river are more challenging, as some of the trail segments are steep, few of the trail segments are wide and most of the trails have ruts and tree roots that can easily trip you up if you're not watching where you're walking. Parking at the Whitewater Creek parking lot may be challenging. When the weather is nice during the weekends, people tend to come early, and the parking lot down at the bottom near the Chattahoochee River will get full. I haven't even attempted to come here if I think parking may be tight. Oh, and many people think that parking is free, but it's not. There is currently a $5 fee for parking here, and you can pay online using the instructions at the shelter that has park info where the parking lot stops and the trail starts. Bring at least one bottle of water, and know that there aren't any restrooms. Most of the trail segments are marked on maps posted at trail intersections telling visitors where they are, and which trail segment they're on. Before you visit, check the weather forecast for the area. You don't want to be on the trail when it is raining because it gets slippery. You also don't want to be out on the trail when it's dark; the unevenness of the trails are dangerous in the dark. Go at your own pace, and enjoy your hike and the views along the way!

There is a deck that you can pay to park in at the Emory Clifton campus - that is the closest parking I believe.

I love visiting it with my husband just before sunset. We saw so many kids playing in the spider web climbing thing and the play area. There was a birthday party going on and the park was filled with folks of all ages. Trails: A little walk on the left leads you to the dam(falls) and it's a very quiet and serene path to walk or jog. There are 2-3 trails around the park but a bit rugged, so I recommend going when there's plenty of daylight. Parking spots are plenty and the park is pet-friendly. Fun fact: Atlanta Astronomy Club conduct star gazing events at this park. Check their website for more information!

There are also kayak rentals on the river bank below. When we came we hiked the 3/4 mile looped trail behind the playground accessible from the parking lot. There was a bald eagle flying above his beat. Kayakers down below had beached themselves on a sandbar in the middle of the river. A guitarist was jamming and kids were playing in the Sun. Just a picture perfect place to relax and take in the sites.

Today's hike at Sweetwater exceeded my expectations in every way! The weather was giving spring…read morevibes and the people were out for it ! Initially we parked in the wrong lot but that worked in our favor (where the bait and tackle shop is). There were lots of families out having picnics and fishing. We did a 1-mile loop in the area and were able to see the yurts. NOTED . Beautiful sites to take in before we ventured to the main lots with the visitor's center. Not only are the trails well marked, but there is ample parking across multiple lots. The attendant at the gate entrance was so kind, welcoming and JOYful! We ventured out on the red trail and it was gorgeous. To my surprise, the trail was full today. It seems that Sweetwater is a populated date spot!!! We saw folks of all ages out with picnic baskets, journals, coloring books, bathing suits ... it was AMAZING! We hiked to the end of the red trail and back, venturing off trail to be clear to the River only once. By far, this was one of my favorite hikes and definitely a place I'll revisit to explore some of the other trails.

Hidden in plain sight? I never knew Morningside Nature Preserve existed until recently but I'm glad…read moreI was able to explore this woodsy space earlier this month. Morningside Nature Preserve has about 2 miles of trails, and the South Fork Peachtree Creek runs through its 33.1 acres. The Preserve used to be known as Wildwood Urban Forest. There's a parking lot on the smaller side off of Lenox Road, and you can also access the preserve from Wellbourne Drive; I spotted some cars parked on the street. Didn't look like any public restrooms were available. Some sandy beachy areas are located alongside the creek, and there's even a wooden suspension bridge. There's basically no trail signage with a plethora of spur trails branching off the main one. Luckily Morningside Nature Preserve isn't so large that getting lost would be an issue but there were several times that I thought I was wandering onto private property. And there were parts of the boardwalk that needed repair. In addition to humans, there were a bunch of doggos here also enjoying the urban outdoors. But you need to look where you step to prevent unpleasant poop encounters. Bad dog owners, bad!

If you do go on the weekends, make sure to arrive early as the parking can fill up fast. Venue and Atmosphere The great outdoors await; enjoy the mostly paved path along the creek to a peaceful waterfall. The trail continues slightly uphill and winds through the park with beautiful foliage and more creek views. Aside from the incline, the trail is relatively easy. The waterfall wasn't very full but that of course depends on the rain level, and the past month was a dry one. It was still lovely! Verdict I'll definitely visit again!
