One bright spot has been the recent, surprising…read moreincrease in investigative articles by some of the newer reporters as well as more work in compiling facts for all reporters. 1) I continue to be unimpressed with the latest iteration of the Editorial board. Their collective awareness of the thoughts and opinions of the community they represent seems uninformed. 2) Try calling ANY of the phone numbers before you go to work or after you come home and you will get an answering machine and sometimes get stuck in their phone system until you hang up in frustration. I even had one message from a number the system said I needed to go to and they transferred me, that said this number is not monitored?? 3) Stopped getting my paper, which has been unusual (another bright spot), only to be told I had been put on a 'vacation hold' even though I was not on vacation or even knew how to do that particular process. 4) Not a fan of outsourcing the printing process as I am a Notre Dame fan and am tired of buying the Sunday Goshen paper in order to see the results and highlights quicker than 2 days after the fact. Observations are that the Schurz group seems unwilling to put any money into this operation. They appear to be using any capital dollars available to expand their empire by using cash flow from operations to fund those acquisitions in other communities. On site printing presses are well over 20 years old, foreign made and have outlived the tax deduction they received from the City to keep them here. Smart, dedicated operators would have been budgeting for replacements during this time. Not committed to this community and is dying a slow death.

And I don't want to state at a computer screen to get my local news. By the way, local news is sparse, and when you contact them you don't get anyone local. They don't respect their customers so don't respect them.

I wor for the…read moreGrand Rapids press for 4 years and was called a model Carrier. after seeing these reviews they need someone like myself working for them. when I quit the grand rapids paper I had customers stop there paper because they didn't want anyone else to deliver but me. but yet this company ignores my messages and calls on numerous occasions. I guess they need to stop advertising if they d have any positions open.

I never spotted an issue of the Gazette during my time in Kalamazoo but I did spot their historical…read moremarker and so I add these facts and history to the Yelp post. The marker is downtown at 401 South Burdick. It reads: "Founded in 1833 as the weekly Michigan Statesman and St. Joseph Chronicle, this newspaper, edited by Henry Gilbert, followed the United States Land Office when it moved from White Pigeon to Kalamazoo in 1835. It first appeared as the Kalamazoo Gazette on January 23, 1837. On March 26, 1872, under Andrew J. Shakespeare, it became a daily publication. In 1925 the Gazette moved to its present location. It celebrated its 150th anniversary of publication in 1987, the year of the Michigan sesquicentennial."
