I wor for the Grand Rapids press for 4 years and was called a model Carrier. after seeing these reviews they need someone like myself working for them. when I quit the grand rapids paper I had customers stop there paper because they didn't want anyone else to deliver but me. but yet this company ignores my messages and calls on numerous occasions. I never spotted an issue of the Gazette during my time in Kalamazoo but I did spot their historical marker and so I add these facts and history to the Yelp post. The marker is downtown at 401 South Burdick. It reads: "Founded in 1833 as the weekly Michigan Statesman and St. Joseph Chronicle, this newspaper, edited by Henry Gilbert, followed the United States Land Office when it moved from White Pigeon to Kalamazoo in 1835. It first appeared as the Kalamazoo Gazette on January 23, 1837. On March 26, 1872, under Andrew J. Shakespeare, it became a daily publication. In 1925 the Gazette moved to its present location. It celebrated its 150th anniversary of publication in 1987, the year of the Michigan sesquicentennial." I have called the number in the phone book to complain about the rise in newspaper delivery price! I got no satisfaction. I would like to speak with a person, and was told to go to the internet! The price for three days a week went from $6.00 to $12.00 ever four weeks. I am a senior and on Social Security and I just barely make it to pay bills such as Consumers Energy, even though I keep the heat low and don't have a lot of lights on. The paper is very skimpy! I was trying to read an article today about a murder trial of a man charged in the death of a 11 month old. The article was difficult to read as it was smeared in orange. The Gazette used to be a great paper at a good price for delivery, but not anymore! How can I talk to a human being who is an employee at the Gazette? Thank you! read more

My mom has been a Gazette subscriber for 50+years, she has recently moved I have been 2 weeks to try and find out how to put in a change of address. I have tried calling and get a message look on line. Tried to look on line and do not even come across the Kazoo Gazette web site. After years of putting up with lousy delivery service, increased prices, and decreased quality of the paper, we have finally cancelled. Since the end of June, I kept track, and there were 14 times that the paper was not delivered at all or was delivered hours late or the next day. The customer service people you talk to can barely speak English. We have asked numerous times to have a supervisor call us, and it never happened. If they can't employ reliable carriers, they should get out of the delivery business. We'll pick up the paper at a store when it's convenient. Most of the time, it's not worth reading, as the news is old, and the paper is so small it can barely line a parakeet cage. I would give 0 stars if I could. Good riddance, Gazette. read more

I switched my subscription to Sunday delivery only and pay $59.88 for 12 weeks. Once again I had my delivery for today end up in the snow where I didn't see it. I check for it before going to bed on Saturday nite, in the morning before going to church and once again when I get home. I saw NO paper! My neighbor who so graciously blows my sidewalk and driveway didn't see it and went over it with the snow blower and it clogged the auger. HIs snow blower is still working but has a bent auger and I have NO Sunday paper. I called to report it NOT being delivered but instead of them bringing me another paper, I will only get credit for this paper. I am NOT happy because it's expensive for what I do get when I DO get it! There is NO reason for that paper not to be left by my front door!!! I'm 74 and can easily throw it from the sidewalk to my front door so...why can't the delivery person do the same? Customer service does NOT exist and that is part of the problem. read more

Again today my neighbors got their Sunday edition and I didn't. Since we had fresh snow it was easy to see who got theirs and who didn't and by seeing the actual paper in their paper box. Half of the contact numbers online are not current. At this point when I get the phone menu it says they will notify the carrier and send a paper out. Probably the most common lie they tell, as it hasn't happened at least six times this year and three of those in the last two months. Can't even take up the issue with the Kalamazoo office on the mall as they closed that some time ago. The Kalamazoo Gazette has the worst service ever. What has happened to them? Before they moved to Grand Rapids, the service was great! When we did not get paper, I could call and get a paper that same day. Now, when we do not get a paper, it is hard to get one from the Gazette. Lousy customer service. Had an increased charge on my cc and they said it's for the Thanksgiving addition. I did receive an email regarding the extra charge for this and I called and informed them that we did not want this as we were going to be gone for the holiday. When I called today they told me that they did not have a record of me calling about this and wanted to know the date of when I called. Really? This was a few months ago. I don't remember every call that I make. They were rude and totally disrespectful. The company does not check with the carriers to see who gets the paper, nor do they check with the customers on their route. All they care about is the almighty dollar. It was near impossible to get ahold of someone from customer service, don't bother trying to call. I am so tired of paying $30 a month for the Kalamazoo Gazette (essentially 12-14 papers a month) to not receive it and then have to go through the process of reporting the missed delivery. The folks at the Gazette that one talks to about a missed delivery have no power to do anything except to pass along a complaint. The automated response says the late paper will be delivered . . . it isn't. The account is never credited for the lost paper. Agree with all other posters. Charged me after their salesperson specifically stated that they wouldn't, NEVER delivered the Sunday paper, and then charged me again! Stay away from any promotions. If you need the paper, you'll be a lot better off picking up a copy from the grocery store. read more

I swore I would never advertise with this outfit after terrible service a few years ago, but was persuaded to try the online advertising by a new rep. It all sounded great until yet again they failed to deliver the promised service. Over $4,500 spent with a negative ROI. I am not a new business, so anything less than 2:1 is terrible. They simply did not manage the campaign as promised, provide reports to show the click rates, or change the ads to try to increase the results. I am done with anything related to MLive or the Gazette. If I provided this kind of service to my customers, I would have none! read more

Do Yourself A Favor And DON'T Subscribe To The Kalamazoo Gazette!! We have subscribed to the Kalamazoo Gazette for over 20 years. When we decided to discontinue our service - which we only decided to do because we just weren't reading the paper anymore - it turned ugly. The Kalamazoo Gazette relentlessly pursued our money - even after we spoke several times to their customer service department and PAID for papers we didn't ask for and weren't legally obligated to pay for (papers delivered when we chose not to renew our subscription). When we received their bill for renewal we chose not to renew. If only it had been that simple. :( I am disgusted by this treatment - especially after being a loyal LOCAL paper subscriber for over 20 years. Due to this treatment - I would NOT recommend this paper to anyone - ever. The Gazette's treatment after we unsubscribed felt like harassment to us. The Kalamazoo Gazette should feel terrible that they must sink this low to keep subscribers who make the choice to unsubscribe. read more

So the bridge by my home was shut down and my paper stopped because their delivery person didn't want to go around to come to what would be then a dead end Road . There's few reasons why I'm writing this review my mother called twice and then I called twice all four times we talked to somebody reported it we thought everything was going good going good and then theytry to transfer us to the supervisor because they can't credit me back for the 6 months that I haven't received the paper but they're trying to credit my account for the next four weeksI don't want the service! but anyways so they transferred me to the supervisor I wait about four minutes on hold boom click the calls ended so then listen this is the fourth time I call kalamazoo county Gazette just want to make sure that this doesn't happen again and what "Lisa" said was we are going to put your number in here trying to make sure they call you back so then case you're disconnected this doesn't happen again an they will call you back I'm not calling for the fifth time cuz I guarantee you the same thing would happen all I want is my money back for the months that they didn't deliver my paper from May through September it's just that easy. Lisa was given my number by me an still hasnt called. The Kalamazoo Gazette seems to be full of disappointments..never got my paper :(....an Lisa never called back an their delivery person didn't even bother to report the deliveries weren't being made anymore. read more
