Went there at 5:00pm ordered a bbq sandwich fries kids meal and country steak meal and a chicken salad with NO PICKLES LIGHT ONIONS didn't leave until 545 the bbq in the sandwich felt like wood chips it was also cold and my fries tasted like they had been sitting for awhile I ignored it threw it out be cause their salads are always great got home mind you I drove from LEXINGTON NC just to get back home and I have just meat lettuce and HEAVY ONIONS I moved to Lexington in august missed Hendrix food sad to say I will NEVER RETURN bad food bad service long wait times just not a great place anymore I'm disappointed read more

Whenever I am in Salisbury, NC, Hendrix is a must for breakfast... For breakfast, try a chicken biscuit...AMAZING! Home fries are quite good too...warning: be prepared if you order even 1 pancake, because they are the size of a large plate... I'm no fan of NASCAR, but I'm rot really sure why the other reviewer mentions racing and insults the Earnhardt family...last time I checked, it had nothing at all to do with barbecue at this particular restaurant. read more

I didn't feel respected as a customer. This was a busy night, I do understand that. But my family of 4 was there over an hour before receiving our food. Our order had been put in 40 minutes before I had to leave to go to work. Our waitress that took our order never come back to check on us. Another waitress filled our drinks. What upset me most was three other tables of people came in after we put in our order and they received their food 15 minutes before we did. Our waitress after us waiting 40 minutes says they were playing our food right then. I then tell her I have to go. She responds "So you don't want your food?" I say "yes I do want my food for my family but I have to go". She responds to me "We are very busy" I respond again with "Three other tables that ordered after us have received their food already". One waitress told us it depends on what you order. We had simple orders compared to the three tables that got their food before us. The waitress told my wife the manager would talk to her but never did. She said it took forever to get our ticket and also to get a to go box for my food since I had already left. She said after I left, it was as if they were even in less of a hurry to get us our food. No one would look at her, they didn't apologize, or offer to take anything off of the bill. The food and service were both good. However, I was not informed in advance there was a 3.99% Convenience Charge to pay by credit card until the bill was delivered. To avoid this charge, I needed to pay with cash (which I did not have on me at that time). In addition, the same Convenience Charge was also added to my tip credit card transaction. So I was charged this Convenience Charge on both transaction and incurred the same Convenience charge amount. Had I known this in advance, I could have had alternative choices and left the tip in cash to avoid a second transaction/charge. read more

AWFUL!!! This place is a nice small bbq place. Outside looks good and inviting. Inside is very "country", which gives it a nice southern vibe. My first issue was the kitchen staff. I realized that NONE of them wore gloves and they handled a lot of food, buns, and other items. This is a pet peeve of mine, so it may not bother you. They handled everything with bare hands and it just seemed unsanitary. The food was VERY mediocre. I got the mesquite chicken plate and it was terrible. The chicken came in the form of chicken breast and they looked and tasted like those frozen ones you get from Wal-Mart. It was very rubbery and tasted like it had been sitting in water. It was flavorless and not seasoned well at all. The corn seem like canned corn, and the "side salad" was very much a letdown. Part because it was served right beside the chicken in the box (which had chicken juice all around it....you'd think they would separate the salad from the wet chicken) and part because it was a poor excuse for a salad as far as fresh ingredients are concerned Think the salads at CiCi's pizza. The okra and hushpuppies were actually pretty good Overall, I say if you are like me and don't eat pork but still want a good southern meal, try the Smoke Pitt a few miles up the road. The pork may be exceptional but I did not try it. The fried sides seem to be the best and forget about a salad. Others have raved about this place but my recommendation is that you go elsewhere or maybe try the Bojangles up the street! read more

I have been eating at Hendrix Barbecue for year's and I normally love eating there UNTIL today... For one they came around to us ONCE for refills and that was before we got our food... They couldn't read our ticket either cause on the ticket said RS on my hamburger (which means red slaw) well it was white slaw then hubby had to get someone's attention so they could take it back and fix it... Well when they brought it back out it was LOADED down with red slaw that's pretty much all I could taste... The lady that brought it back out told me to check if it was right this time but before I could open the wrapper she was gone... I think that she knew what they did that's why she ran away... I would understand if they was super busy BUT they wasn't!!! Remind you that I never got a refill on my drink... Our waitress was to busy talking to her buddies... I AM NOT HAPPY AT ALL!!! We've eaten at the Hendrix in Salisbury and in Spencer many times, and it's always average. Never made us sick, never found a hair in our food, and usually cooked okay. It's a good place for a quick bite if you are tired of typical fast food. But today was a different story.... I stepped outside my bbq box and tried a hotdog. The hotdog was obviously cooked in water, and must have been sitting in the water for god knows how long. The hotdog was huge and swollen with water, and pink on the outside, and whitish gray on the inside. I took a bite and it was like a sponge, with no flavor. I have eaten many hotdogs and never in my life had one this gross. If I had to guess, I would say it might have even been stored in the water for hours and hours based on how swollen it was and how mushy and spongy it was. It's been 2 hours since I've eaten (only took 2 bites of my hotdog) and I still feel sick. Other than ordering their bbq shoulders for the holidays, I won't be back. If you decide to still eat there after you read this review, trust me, don't get a hotdog!!! read more

This is what happens when you let a non-yelper pick a restaurant for lunch. I had already scouted out a locally owned deli, that got good reviews when I was invited by some co-workers to go to Hendrix's. The placed was packed, which I have learned isn't always a good thing in small towns. You grab whatever table is open and wait to get your menu. The waitress actually knew my co-worker and I soon found out he comes every morning for breakfast. Their menu is random, with about 4 items listed under the heading BBQ. And it doesn't specify the meat, you can get a BBQ sandwich or a BBQ tray (small or large). The rest of the menu is dedicated to other sandwiches, salads, and plates. Instead of taking my chance with the BBQ mystery meat, I ordered the grilled chicken sandwich with a side of Lima beans (I was having a childhood flashback!). Everything was ok, it was your basic unseasoned grilled chicken breast served with lettuce, tomato, and mayo. I tried to help it would with some BBQ sauce, but it was so runny it just went straight to the sandwich wrapper (no plates here!). The others in the group didn't have anything bad to say, and I had to give them props for allowing one in the group to sub peanut butter instead of mayo on his BLT, but he was the regular so I guess he has done some prior sweet talking =) Supposedly they have good breakfast, but I would recommend venturing out further than Hendrix BBQ for lunch while in Salisbury. read more

So on the outside, very inviting. I love a good "hole in the wall" but this place was far from good. To be fair, service was excellent. Besides that, food was horrendous. Hotdog was uncooked and cold. BBQ chicken was very dry. How could you call yourself a BBQ place and not get chicken right? But the worst was the 2 piece steak plate. It was deep fried chopped meat that was saturated in oil and red inside. I am the type of person that when I'm hungry and the food is mediocre I'll still eat it but this was inedible. Enjoyed lunch at Hendrix yesterday. Service good, no wait even in the lunch rush. Excellent waitress. I had a BBQ salad with a side order of fries. BBQ Salad: Very good, plenty of meat and cheese in it. Seems some places think cheese is too expensive to put very much in the salad, but Hendrix obliges well. Had the blue cheese dressing with the salad. The management could make an improvement here with a better grade of salad dressing. Cheap plastic packets, thin & runny, left something to be desired. Fries: Perfect! Crinkle cut potatoes, cooked exactly right and sprinkled with seasoned salt which the waitress suggested. Good quantity in the serving. One other improvement management could make would be a different alarm for the drive thru. The "clang clang" of the bell (like the one in an old time gas station) during meal gets annoying after a while. A good lunch at a reasonable price. read more

Great BBQ, as the owners are from Lexington and grew up working at Lexington BBQ. The breakfast is phenomenal and pricing is fair. For a local dive, with great food and an atmosphere that shows their support for the local area, this is the place to go. My preference is the location on Statesville Blvd. read more

Been there before, food is ok. Customer service = I don't think so. Went to pay with a credit card, she asked if I wanted to put a tip on it. I round amounts off to full dollar amounts so I told her to just make it $9. My fault for not reading the receipt correctly but really, who gives a $9 tip on a $7 charge?! Simple mistake, but the problem was when I realized it and went back they basically told me that I signed it and it's a legal agreement. Wow! Southern hospitality for ya. Really didn't see that coming. Pretty easy to understand the mistake and make things right but instead I ended up with a slap in the face. Personally won't eat there anymore (loss of business...) and any time I'm with someone that recommends it I will refuse (loss of more business) and hopefully someone else will not go there because of this (potential...) Hope you enjoy your monumental tip! :) Note to self and others... make sure you read your receipts. Hendrix BBQ has excellent BBQ and BBQ slaw. Their BBQ sauce is delicious. Further, the breakfast menu is out of this world. Country ham and the best grits in town. I hate to tell the secret, but don't order two eggs, unless you've got half a day to eat them! They keep the drinks filled...bring on the sweet tea and Cheerwine! Good food, good service, and fair prices. They get my stars for these reasons, but also because they are so good to Prevent Child Abuse Rowan, one of my favorite charities. Other items are on the menu, but they specialize in Barbeque and, trust me, there is none better. I love my barbeque and this place has some of the best you'll ever eat. Barbeque places that people drive from all parts of the US to eat at are in Lexington, NC, but if they drove to Salisbury (another 30 minutes away) they would never go back to Lexington - in fact, they should move the Barbeque Festival from there and put in in Hendrix Barbeque's parking lot. Hendrix bbq had horrible food and horrible service. When we walked in the girl at the counter looked at us and walked away. Ten minutes later we got seated by an extremely rude waitress who acted like she didn't even want to wait on us. We asked for tea and were told that they had none. A few minutes later we saw them bring tea to znother table. The bbq sandwich was cold, the hot dog was not done. We just left our food on the table, paid and left. My husband and I eat breakfast at hendrix often on innes st and its great no problems..We came to statesville Blvd.He had chicken I ordered fish baked potatoe and red slaw.I tryed to eat it.But it was awful the waitress came and ask how was everything at this point I was trying to eat the food the potatoe was cold the fish has a twang long story short I told the waitress which turned out to be some type manger.Went to pay was charged $17.05 for two Ice teas and one plate.I ask about it and was told I had to pay for the slaw hush puppies and potatoe.Never again will I step foot in that place.I have been a waitress most of my life and I was taught the customer is always right.If I could have ate the food I would have been more then gald to pay for it.In this case I think I got charged more Because I dident eat it. The food is fine, and they do have a great breakfast, but we felt, on a recent visit, that we were not valued as the good customers that we ( my wife and I) have been there. We ordered, what we thought were two breakfast plates. We are a little older in years and do not eat a tremendous amount of food. When the food came out, only one was a plate, everything else was ala carte, which meant it was more expensive and more food than we needed. When we asked about it, they said that a "plate" must have an egg on it. Granted, we should have checked the menu to notice this, but the waitress also should have told us. When my wife then asked for some toast (since that only came with a plate), they charged us for that as well(or would have since we sent it back). When we complained, even the manager said she was sorry, but more or less, that was the way it was. We were not compensated for anything, even when we stated that we would not be back. It is disheartening to think that a place that you frequent on a fairly regular basis did not really care whether we returned or not. read more

been awhilate at hendrixx on statesville blvd now weve boycotted the other 2 in salisbury cause the food isnt great and they charge you for everything asked for an extra plate said it was 50 cent extra and if you didnt get theire veges and you wanted to substitute them gonna be 75 cent for each one!now all 3 hendrixx"s seem to hire all these bubbly young dumb waitress"s and theyre to look good not actually be good servers!they cant keep help at none of them,theres help wanted signs that just stay up permently.ordered a cheeseburger what i got was a leftover patty from lunch just warmed it right up and it took like 3 minutes to get food and everyone knows cant cook a burger in 3 minutes!plus it was black burned,i chose to halfway eat it because i didnt want to cause a fuss not to them but to my mother,she doesnt fare well under those types of sitituations.well mums got a hb steak and had to pay an extra dollar 50 oh and 35 cents for water,i was begining to think we would have to pay a booth rental since they charged extra for EVERYTHING!!!also brought my fwife a plain grilled chix breast sandwich now it was gray looking chix breast the cheap kind.now i know alot of these things cause i worked in a restraunt for 16 years so im no dummy!!the mayo was running off her sandwich and it was like water dripping off.also got 2 dessert:s and they were so small i would"ve been embaressed to serve it!!So it was a horriable experience and we will NEVER go to another hendrixx bbq again,now you are warned!! read more
