My massage therapist, Tara Atkinson, recommended him and I'm so grateful. I've been trying to find someone who prescribes Chinese herbs in the Seattle area for years. You fill out a quick medical history form and then talk through what concerns you have. Dr. Chiu takes your pulse and examines your tongue, which is pretty standard in Chinese medicine. He also keenly observant and notices other things that provide a clearer picture to what he prescribes. He still fulfills orders as well and gives you clear instructions on how to prepare the herbs, how often to take them and what to expect. Dr. Chiu is also a tai chi master and is willing to show you some exercises if you're nice! All in all a soothing and helpful experience. After 3 and 1/2 weeks, of trying I got it in the mail. But I looked it over for everything needed to submit it. He did not have his provider tax id on it. There was a spot for it but it was empty. He also didn't have his phone number on it. I called and left a message to get it but did not receive an answer and my phone calls during business hours were not answered. They always answered before, even after hours....never seemed very busy there. I couldn't believe it was such and issue to get a receipt. They had my money, I just wanted a receipt to get the money back from my insurance. Something was definitely fishy. I talked to my insurance and since he has taken so long to provide the invoice and won't provide all what I need for it now, they suggested I file a claim against him. So now they are going to try to get him to do what he is legally bound to do as a contracted provider with them. As for the herbs, the other reviewers are correct. He seems more intent on selling these and comes up with whatever excuse as to why you need them. Had nothing to do with my back pain which is why I was there. He wanted me to pay 160 for 6 small packets of the stuff. It seemed like he was marking this waaaaaaaaayyyy up and that is where he is making his money. i did not buy it. The insurance, of course, doesn't cover the herbs. As for treatment, my upper back was hurting. He tied a belt around my knees and ankles and stood on the table, and on my back as he pulled my feet up in the air. It hurt like hell. I've been struggling with arthritis and chronic pain in my hands for several years since I…read morerecovered from carpal tunnel syndrome. I've tried various treatments from western doctors, but they only seemed to treat the symptoms and not heal the core issue. So after seeing some government research on the effectiveness of acupunture for treating arthritis, I decided to give it a shot. First session and most of my pain went away for a few days. Before treatment, my pain was around a 6/10 constantly. After the first treatment, it went down to around 3/10. Pretty effective so far, but would it last? After about 2 weeks of treatment and herbal medicine, my pain levels dropped to around 3/10 consistently. The inflammation reduced a fair amount to the point where my hands weren't constantly swollen red all day. Since my condition was pretty severe I decided to get treatment for about 4 months, 1-2x a week, and doing physical therapy on the side to rebuild my hand strength. Now I can gladly say that I'm mostly pain and inflammation free in my hands. My hands are still a little weakened from overuse and there's some lingering soreness in my right hand, but my physical therapy is helping with that. I can actually lift weights again, which I'd go into relapse if I tried that before I began treatment. All the staff were always so friendly and accommodating to me. The clinic was very clean and aesthetically pleasing, with relaxing classical music playing in the background. If anyone's worried about dirty needles, I haven't caught anything besides the occasional minor bruising and swelling after sessions sometimes. But they all quickly healed in 2-3 days. My insurance covered costs, but even without insurance it still would cost less than western doctors with insurance. I would strongly recommend anyone suffering from arthritis to try out acupuncture and maybe do physical therapy as well.
