My significant other and I tried this place on a whim as it was my birthday and we had an hour and a half to kill before our movie time. ( Keep in mind we got there 15 min after they opened) The waiter was a young man and very kind. It took TWO hours to be served an appetizer & salad. Our main course was not good. The steak was way over cooked. We asked for rare & it was well done. The asparagus was huge and stalky it was gross. The manager was extremely rude and wasn't even willing to comp 1 meal for the kitchens mistakes. His customer service skills are absolutely terrible and we will not be coming back nor do I recommend anyone go there. & to top it off because of the two hours to get the appetizer we had to cancel our movie and attend a later time. Visited Hemisphere Bistro based upon a friend's recommendation and needless to say they did not disappoint. I'll preface and say you may pass this place often and it's kind of a hidden gem but you have to try it. We made reservations to celebrate a birthday and were greeted immediately upon entering. The restaurant is well designed and the kitchen has an open concept too. Our Server was Sydney and she also dual hatted as the bartender too. She was amazing and the drinks were too. we started with the shrimp spring rolls and they wee so flavorful and delicious. They were seasoned well and crispy, and the sauce it was accompanied by was amazing too. We cleared the plate up too even the salad the spring rolls were served on. For dinner you choose your protein, a finish sauce and two sides. For dinner I had the half chicken with fries and broccolini. The half chicken doesn't come with a selected finishing sauce it's finished with a rosemary cream sauce which is so flavorful and delicious. The fries were like truffle, Parmesan fries and they were amazing too. I don't use much salt so the broccolini was a little too salty but still good overall. My boyfriend got the Australian Shank Lamb finished with fig gastritque, and linguini and burdel sprouts as a side. The lamb was so tender and cooked to perfection. The linguini was companied by creamy Alfredo sauce which was so flavorful and delicious too. I couldn't partake in the Brussels sprouts because it has bacon in it, but it looked amazing and my boyfriend enjoyed it. This is hands down one of the best tasting restaurants I've ever been too and I wish I knew about them sooner. I highly recommend Hemisphere and hope you check them out too. read more

Unfortunate first (and last) experience. In town from Denver and stopped to have dinner with family. I remembered this location as the former Red Crow Grill. Based on the menu I was excited to try it. Felt bad for the waiter as he was very new and evident it was his first serving job. There were only 3 tables seated including us when we came in on a Friday night. The appetizers were well done but when it came specifically to my entree this is where they fell short....specifically "management". I ordered the Prime bone in ribeye, medium rare....when the food did finally arrive my steak was medium + at best. And this is listed as a 22 ounce steak. The end third of the stead was extremely well done in temperature. Grey in color. I brought this to the attention of the waiter and politely asked that the chef refire a new one. He took the steak back and then came back asking if we needed anything else. Then started to "educate" me an how steaks will cook much more on the end than in the middle. Mind you the other 3 ppl in our party had steaks that were cooked how they ordered. I told him I was well aware and have grilled many steaks myself and a steak of that thickness should in no way be grey in the bottom third of the steak. He left and came back again with further "education". At this point I became very irritated as it was evident the manger or chef was sending him out instead of coming out themselves. I expressed my frustrations and let him know it was no reflection on him and to have the chef or manager come to the table. The manager came to the table with no semblance of how can I make this right for the customer, but instead had more "education" for me. He told me they have no time to reverse sear another steak. I said I did not ask for that method and any experienced chef should be able to put another one on the grill and cook it in traditional fashion. The steak is $75 dollars. In now way do I expect them to get every steak perfect every time, but what I do expect is that when the customer isn't satisfied they make it right. They fell extremely short here and needless to say I will never come back to this establishment, nor recommend it to anyone. read more

This was the worst meal I have had in a long time. Everything was too salty, vegetables overcooked, portions small and EXTREMELY overpriced. I ordered the Short Ribs... 64.00. One cesar salad 15.00. Came to Hemispheres Bistro New Year's dinner tonight-a special 4 course menu. This is the 3rd year we've come here. Unfortunately tonight's experience was nothing like the last 2 years. We came to the 6pm seating. The first appetizer took 42 minutes to arrive and it's been a disaster ever since. We are packed in like sardines-a new addition this year. And I hope the fire Marshall doesn't stop by as we are seated directly in front of the fire exit. It's also freezing because every time someone opens the door and holds it open as they have we just feel the cold air blow in. I can't hear anyone speak at our table because it's so loud because there are way too many tables for the space. Truly unfortunate-the server is doing his best but the bar is failing as it takes about 30 minutes to get a drink. This was an absolute disappointment and I will never be back. They clearly got greedy this year and packed in so many tables that their kitchen couldn't handle it. I will say when the food finally did show up it was good. This has been a total disappointment but I'll be looking for a new tradition next year for sure. Oh also taking a dirty table cloth and flipping it over for the next table is not the level of cleanliness I would expect to get at this establishment but I've watched them do it twice...Spent $400 on the meal...not what I expected at all. read more

Had 7 pm reservations. 8 of us plus one who came at last minute. Ordered out drinks after a wait then got our drinks., but waited a while to order. By that time we ordered a second drink. Our order came out over 2 hours later. The first to come out was a cold steak which was requested to be put in a to go box. By the time we all got our food it was 9:30. We asked for a manager who never came. We left at 10:30 without being asked it we wanted an after dinner drink or desert. While we waited for our food, 3 tables were served and left before us. As we were leaving we asked the bartender to see the manager who spoke unapologetically. We were told the waiter we had was the assistant manager. No sincere apology was offered but lame excuses as to why. VERY disappointed!!' VERY poor customer service Cold steak and small portions or sea bass at a premium price. My Wife and Myself went there for Valentine's Day and it was one of the worst meals we have ever had. The Waiter recommended the New York Strip after we were considering the Bone in Ribeye or the Sea Bass and we got 2 of the toughest pieces of meat either of us has ever had (after we were told it was very tender). We tried to eat them, but both of us gave up after getting almost half way done. They were both very difficult to cut, even with a sharp steak knife. My Wife got the red velvet cake for dessert and she said it was so dry that she had to drink some water with it to swallow it. At least the potatoes and the salad were good. The Waiter dropped off our water and disappeared for at least 25 minutes before checking on us again. My Wife and Myself go out to eat frequently and have dined at every other high end restaurant in the Quad City area. Had a TERRIFIC meal here. Top notch tenderloin, perfectly prepared w a bordelaise sauce, broccolini and garlic linguini side... The steak was medium rare and plain and simply perfect in preparation and taste, soft and appropriately pink center, nice grill lines on top. Loved it w the $1 side I ordered of bernaise sauce. The wine menu is a tad limited but so is Iowa when it comes to wine and the 2016 Chateneuf du Pape we ordered, while pricey at $98, was perfect for steaks and all that we ordered. Great bread basket here too for $3, comes with a cornbread and some kind of bread akin to sour dough but with cooked onions atop it. I love this restaurant for its modern aesthetic, classy service, food presentation and how they let you be the ultimate designer of your meal by your picking your sides and "finishing" sauces... The best meal and evening dining experience I have had in the Quad Cities in years! A friend recommended going there. Neither of us had been there since before Covid. Although they were super busy ( Christmas time) and we made reservations, the staff and especially our waiter made the time fly , filling our water glasses, answering questions, pausing to talk or explain when the next course would be out. The staff were all knowledgeable about the menu and never made us feel rushed. We knew we would be seated at a high top in the bar area ( per our reservation call) but even that experience was so enjoyable as we had an open window to the chefs preparing each appetizer; such a group of focused and diligent workers as they prepared meals for the full restaurant! And of course the food was amazing! Excellent taste and served at the exact temperature, which seems difficult to find these days at restaurants. Hemisphere was excellent in all areas, and will now be the #1 restaurant I recommend for those looking to enjoy fine dining! read more

Preliminary research has concluded that 72% of all visits to this Bistro are preceded by the comment "Hey, let's go somewhere a little nicer tonight." Dark woods popping off of light walls, sophisticated light fixtures, and tables covered in dark cloths provide diners with an elegant setting in which they can jam food down their throats. After their girlfriends make them go back to the closet to put on some pants and choose a nicer shirt, diners arrive and are presented with a simple one page menu with plenty of appetizing traditional options. Okay, if you have a grain of salt nearby, try to take it with the remainder of this review, noting that 1) I came here for lunch. 2) Not typically a day drinker, I didn't have any of their wine. I chose a chicken club sandwich that was dressed with a delicious house-made aioli. The grilled chicken was tender, and clearly well marinated as the flavor was hidden even in the center depths of the large chicken breast that was served. The chicken is served on a flaky wheat croissant, that was quite tasty, but for the calorie-conscious, you may skip the top bun and eat it with a knife and fork. It wasn't busy when I arrived, but the seating is fairly close in limited space, so it would likely be pretty noisy during peak times. That is to say, I wouldn't recommend proposing to someone here. We were looking for a new place to eat that had really good food that was a more eclectic than the usual burgers, steak, chicken joints that populate the QC region. We found it here at the Hemisphere Bistro! I had a fabulous lamb shank with a side of fingerling potatoes and grilled asparagus. My wife had scallops with a bacon jam and mashed potatoes with the asparagus. Both dishes were superb. Then we split the cheesecake dessert. It too was fabulous and I grew up eating Juniors cheesecake in Brooklyn. The service in the booth by the bar was good, prompt and no nonsense. The only retraction was they didn't have either of the two wines I was looking for but the server suggested an alternate that paired very nicely with the food. So, if you are looking for a really delicious meal in the QC, that compares with any restaurant in Chicago or New York, look no further. read more

I didn't care too much about the service, but unless it's horrid, I try not to let that influence my review! (Then again, I am an insufferable customer sometimes, so I suppose my day is coming). Anyways, bottomless make-your-own mimosas for $12 and boy was that the way to go! You can either get just one glass for $10 but why not just make your morning boozy? I mean you're already awake and life is gonna happen anyways. This was my favorite bottomless mimosas brunch because there were different juices: peach, cranberry, pineapple, orange (the OG), and pomegranate. And fresh fruit! I'm in heaven. Foodwise, I loved their options for brunch. Today, they had the special of bananas Foster's crepes. I didn't care for the texture of the crepes (felt too eggy, and too heavy for a crepe), but was delighted over that caramel rum sauce. So good! And fresh whipped cream! The eggs Benedict was delicious, and the steak was cooked nicely. I had it florentine style with a portobello snuck into there. I am looking forward to going again for lunch!! We ordered a delivery for our wedding anniversary to be delivered for Covid-19 precautions. It was confirmed and paid for. That evening I checked the delivery process to see that it was canceled and refunded without notifying me! We had a wonderful night at hemispheres. Starting with drinks at the nice bar and moving into an awesome dinner. Our waiter has to be one of the best waiters I've ever had. I chose the Lamb Shanks with the Huckleberry Jus. INCREDIBLE! Chicken and marinara was simple but perfectly done. Highly recommend! Lamb shank with huckleberry jus, Brussel sprouts and risotto. Although I often bemoan a lack of culinary diversity in the Quad Cities, there are a number of cuisines that are done well here. Mexican, burgers, and, of course, QC-style pizza are available in abundance and it's easy to find high quality examples of each of these categories. Others, such as the famed VandeRueben, are impossible to replicate. There is a lot of really great food here! Unfortunately, Hemisphere Bistro illustrates perfectly how far behind other metropolitan areas the QC is in terms of upscale dining. I came this weekend and after being seated at a table that was so close to the one behind it my boyfriend and I had no choice but to sit side-by-side on the same side of the table - which was incredibly awkward - the first thing I noticed was that the menu we were handed was completely different than the menu posted on Hemisphere's website. I later found a year-old photo on Yelp of the same online menu, meaning they haven't updated their page in over a year. So right out of the gate I wasn't impressed with the service, though our waiter did end up doing his job well. The prices on the newer menu were significantly higher and there were fewer options. My boyfriend and I didn't love our starters. Mine was a bisque and his was a caprese salad. I ordered mine medium rare and it came out unevenly cooked, but still good. My sides were alfredo and mashed potatoes which were also good, though the potatoes looked like they had been sitting on the plate for awhile. My boyfriend got a steak that he enjoyed. Hemisphere Bistro served up a meal that wasn't at all creative, or even particularly memorable, and would have been overpriced at two thirds of what we paid, which was well over $100. If you've got that kind of money to spend, skip dinner here and at the very least head to Iowa City. Hemisphere isn't worth it, though in their defense I don't think any other 'upscale' QC establishment fits the bill, either. read more

Having recently moved to QC from Chicago area, I have been in search for great food and atmosphere. Reservations for 2 were made at an early ttime. There was no wait time as there were anime reviews of tables available. The restaurant is in a strip mall which was not aan issue as some of the better restaurants are located similarly in major cities. What would have been more inviting would have been plantings at the entrance in the urns which were bare. The decor is eclectic and very clean. Our waitress was pleasant and attentive. The ribeye appetizer was very good, The halibut special over noodles was liked as well as th new york strip. In comparison to another top rated restaurant in the area, there were a few things lacking. When asked for stuffed bleu cheese olives for a martini, the server came back to say regular olives or no olives. Okay...then whe placing the order which we were somwhat hurried to do so, we ordered an appetizer and requested a little time to chat before ordering the main course. We were told the entire order has to be placed at one time. Okay...a little bit later when the server brought another drink sh informed me table seatings were limited to 60-90 minutes. Most awkward...never has this been a statement in a highly rated restaurant. Lastly, if you are interested in desserts, this not a place to visit. Nothing was on the menu or offered. read more

Great place to eat. Very reasonable prices for a restaurant of this caliber. Really like the open kitchen concept. As for the food...3 of us ate dinner that night. Started with the lobster spring roll. Very good. Waiter brought out small plates and nice (not disposable) chop sticks. Was just right for 3 people but not enough for 4 (and that's perfectly fine, just thought I'd mention it). Our main courses consisted of the salmon, flat iron steak, and half chicken. Salmon was fantastic, steak was cooked exactly as it should be and the chicken was suburb. As others have mentioned the menu allows the diner to choose the protein, the finish and the sides. Our waiter knew the best combos and was a big help. There are all veg dishes if that's your thing, as well. We did enjoy a nice bottle of wine with our meal. Will be back often. Well here we are at hemisphere bistro. Had the hummus and blue cheese dip. Love hummus. This was okay. Had a great deal of grease on top which I assume was tahini. They did bring me baked pita chips because the first ones were deep fried. Trying to have a healthy appetizer I wouldn't have expected the chips to be deep fried, but suppose maybe with the blue cheese dip. The music is wonderful Michael Buble pandora station. Very appropriate for the restaurant. The acoustics are still a problem from the previous restaurant but they did put some sound barrier in. But we sat by the bar and it is still hard to talk to each other. It wasn't a busy night so I'm sure this would be worse in a weekend. Dinner was good portion could have been a little more on the asparagus. Three spears. Reminds me of faithful pilot. Lol. But everything was delicious. Price was reasonable 22. I like the way you picked your sauced with 13 choices. And you picked your potatoe rice vegetables etc. that was a great way to do it. Overall the food was decent. I might have been more impressed if we hadn't got the appetizer. The service was great she was knowledgable and tried to make it a good dining experience. read more

Been here prior to our New Years Eve dinner. Food was delicious before, decided to celebrate an anniversary and holiday all in one last night. They had two rounds of seating, one at 5 and one at 7:30. Everyone rushed in and was seated at once.. not quite sure how this worked out for the kitchen, because our entree took almost 2 hours to come out. This seemed to happen to others seated near us as well. We were told by our server to get in our entire order at once, for coursing purposes, which I can understand. It's a small restaurant. So we ordered our entrees to share. But after waiting two hours, the steak entree was medium rare, with parts of it being extremely rare (it was ordered medium). But we were so hungry at that point, we didn't want to say anything or send it back. All in all, our service was fantastic, that's what saved the night. Food was good (besides the undercooked steak), but the wait time just didn't cut it for us. Especially on a holiday, when people might have plans after dinner. Left feeling disappointed. read more
