School of Communications, and there is Academy for Creative Media (ACM) in here too. It's pretty clean for the most part, and it's only three floors up. The classrooms are kind of spacious. Except for the chairs since it's bolted to the floor like any lecture classes, but it's definitely more space to shift your butt and legs around in compared to Spalding. The restrooms are pretty clean too, but not as nice as Webster's. I like the stairs. You walk in, and there is the stairway. While you wait for class, you can sit on it until it starts. Watch it accumulate people and make way for people walking. If you don't like the stairs, stand and be awkward. If you're going upstairs, you can take the elevator too, just located on the left side. By the way, it's slow. The administration office for Communications is located on the third floor, and they're really nice people. I know I wouldn't mind coming to Crawford for any of my classes.

Kamakakūokalani Center for Hawaiian knowledge is awesome. A place to learn and engage in all things…read moreike Hawaii. I feel so at home here and everyone is so welcoming. It has a Native Hawaiian library, the Native Hawaiian Student Services, Kānewai Loi, Native Hawaiian Counselors, and the Native Hawaiian Kumu's offices are housed here. As well as a parking structure on the side $5 before 5pm and $6 afterwards. There are two sets of bathrooms one on the top floor and one on the bottom. I'm so greatful they have this Center! :)

From the architecture to the wall decor to the choice of plants and foliage, everything about it just screams University of Hawaii, where learning about the past guides us to our future. [That's not their mission statement or the like, that's what I like to follow while I'm in school] The internet connection is always on point so that's AMAZING but I can't get the internet to stay on for more than 30 minutes else where on campus. I do have to say that the location of this building in relation to the rest of the buildings on campus is ridiculous!! It's so far! It sucks so bad when your bus is late so you have to run 238419038 miles from SInclair Circle to Kama. Ah, but it's okay. The kumus here are really understanding. Do remember that this is the site of an ancient burial ground so anywhere within the "fence" of ti leaves, please don't smoke, skateboard, or the like. It is our kuleana to respect the past.

Kuykendall Hall Who wants to watch a Dissertation Defense of…read morea random PHD student that you have never met? Oh! OH! OH oh oh! I volunteer Luis! I kinda love it how people what to have a little badge next to their name that says First to Review. I too have on purpose reviewed some worthy places that needed to have a page up on Yelp and yes I too happened to have a first to review star next to my name. Back to my running joke- Who wants to watch a Dissertation Defense? They are so much fun! Yeah, if you really are going for your PHD and are in the very same field as another student defending something not on your topic but from 1 or more of the same professors that will interview you live- then yes, you really should go out and watch a Dissertation Defense of a random person since they are open to the public just to mentally prepare for the tasks of explaining your standpoint on a very myopic topic that you have spent YEARS on that you may not realize have missed some of the more obvious questions that are usually asked. Also- it is a cool building to get away from people you are avoiding! Not cool as in "Victoria Secrets backstage VIP passes" cool but cool as in one of the buildings that has reliable AC in a muggy Manoa weather Cool. Classrooms are classrooms almost everywhere you go in the mainland- but not al UHM classrooms are equal as toooooo many are mobile trailers that DON'T have AC! Kuykendall, at least, has the tech needs of AC and AV that make for a good classroom for a modern prof to do his or her educational teaching tech needs fully. I got my MEd and had many classes in Kuykendall -so I liked it. I can't say the same for the other classroom settings that didn't have AC where I was dying (sic). Bathrooms- no they are not the freshest I have ever been in but the very nice thing about them is that there is always room for me or anyone to put their backpacks or books so that they don't have to go on the ground like in other public bathrooms. Halls- always fun to see what different Profs or students have put up on the boards- some great Far Side jokes all the way to the latest meeting of student organizations that can be beyond interesting. Noise level- quieter than one would assume in a college. I like UHM and Kuykendall was home to to many days and nights not to remember it well and go back happily knowing that homework is not due today. Until I have to be the one sitting watching a Dissertation Defense preparing for my own Prof to question me on my upcoming works. How do I know about the Dissertation Defenses and other programs? There is a robot email that you can sign up for if you are an alum or random person to know what is up with UHM events from different colleges like Language and Literature. The English department at the University of Hawaii-Manoa will always hold a special place in my…read moreheart. I spent 5.5 years (including summers) at UHM, and English was the only subject at the school I always knew I'd truly enjoy, excel at and obtain a degree in. As it turns out, my double major in journalism was just fodder to my true love of creative writing. It's been almost a decade since I've last been here for academic purposes, but I do recall a lot about the building, the faculty offices and the types of classes they offered. I liked most of my professors, and I looked forward to attending most of my classes, especially the upper-level, free-form ones. Although the English department is the largest in the UHM College of Languages, Linguistics, and Literatures (LLL), I strongly believe that its headquarters at Kuykendall are grossly underfunded and in need of major repair. There's an inadequate number of classrooms, sometimes the elevator (i.e., only one) doesn't work, hallways have poor lighting and AC is spotty (especially in faculty offices). It used to feel like a ghost town to me on many occasions, since not very many people hung out on the 2nd or 3rd floors despite all the available benches. I'm giving the English Department / Kuykendall Hall four stars because - even if it takes another decade or two to actually fund and implement - I still believe there's potential here for something great.

The professors were all pretty caring and understanding of our grueling tennis training schedule since we had many tennis players in the business school. Other departments were not as forgiving, thus my career was only 2 years long in athletics, but I needed to maintain my GPA for my academic scholarship. The classrooms were very varied with some in lecture format and some like a conference room. Even though towards the end of my degree the courses were pretty intense, I'm glad I had the experience of going to UH and learning at Shidler.

I understand the frustrations with the UH system, but for the 4 years I spent at Shidler (it took me a while because of scheduling and transportation) overall, I think I had a good experience. As disgruntled as I was with a few teachers stuck in the past (absolutely no laptops for note taking, must code a website from html only and Mrs. Chen's own example looked worse than a web 1.0 geocities *smh*) there were far more professors that made my time worth it: Rabacal, Joon, Lister, Bhawuk... and resources that really aided in my journey when success was out of my own control like the women's center, student counseling center, and especially KOKUA. College is honestly what you make of it and how you choose to deal with what life and the system throws at you. For an average student that just comes to class, doesn't care to connect with teachers, goes home, does homework and comes back everyday to do it all again, when one thing sets you off, you won't have much to balance out your opinion. For me on the other hand, I reached out to teachers, connected, found out how much a lot of them care, and I got involved in business clubs--which really made me whole Shidler experience much different from those who never joined a club their entire education. The Shidler business clubs are a whole other world and kept me crazy active with company tours, socials, mentoring, and a yearly inter-club competition that gets CRAZY competitive and the performances are nuts. But that's just a small part of Shidler that can make your experience all the better. Shidler also offered resident mentors that you could schedule time with to talk to and run your business ideas by of course for free. You never had to pay for printing as they alotted you like 500 pages a year in the computer lab. You get access to all kinds of business subscriptions to Forbes and other reports and whatnot that non-resident would otherwise have to pay for. Those who complain, did they make any use of these resources? Did they have any other involvement at Shidler? Did they make any effort to do what they could to make their experience better? Or did they simply feel entitled to perfect professors and a perfect education? No college is going to give you that. It's up to you to make the most of what it throws at you just like you need to make the most of what life throws at you. --or are you just going to give your life a one star review and be on your way never bothering to make it better for yourself? Thank you to all the professors and counselors that helped me on my journey. I didn't think I'd graduate but with the kokua of so many, I made it.

Community College in Kāne'ohe, O'ahu, Hawaii…read more.. Windward Community College (WCC) celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2022. It has been a vital part of our community in many ways. Besides educating students, WCC has hosted the Windward Ho'olaule'a (festival) with food trucks, craft vendors, live music, and hula performances. It has invited the public to view movies at The Hokulani Imaginarium (planetarium); showcased artwork from the ceramics studio; and most recently, held The Aloha Giveaway at the covered parking lot (solar panels are on the roof) near the entrance of the campus. I have attended Hawaiian concerts in the Paliku Theater - and Union meetings in one of the classrooms. The library and cafe were impressive - both were very organized, clean, and professional! This is such a beautiful campus where parking is free! I'm tempted to take a class or two here...

Due to recent heavy rain and flooding, Windward Community College is the temporary vaccination site…read morebeing used on March 10 & 11 for the state's Covid 19 vaccination distribution. My husband and I are fortunate to be receiving our 2nd Moderna vaccine here this morning, a month ago we got it at Windward Health Center. Street signs were posted with arrows guiding you to Hale Akoakoa Building, covid protocols are enforced including temp check's in the beginning, many staff ensuring seats and other touch surfaces are sanitized before the next person arrives, short application to be completed while in line, brief assessment with an MD, then you're seated with a nurse who administers your shot, moving to a quarantine area for 15 minutes should a patient have allergic reactions needing medical attention, checkout desk to validate your official vaccination card reminding you to make a copy of it for your PCP. Also complimentary cold water & Gatorade bottles are available upon request. I was beyond impressed with this process and how efficient it was as well as how wonderful each and every staff person/volunteer was that I interacted with.

The lecture halls are more narrow than most and in my particular class a lot of the seats are missing the dest attachment or it's broken. Other than that, it's super clean and nice inside and out. They should put a sign on the building though.. I got lost finding it my first day.

PROS: I like that the CoE has it's own comp lab. Printing is free. There's also an area with tables you can sit at and eat while doing HW. There are vending machines. AC CONS: Hard to find. Sometimes too cold. Because it's for Eng students, it can get packed. Some cell phones don't get service. I have Verizon, and I don't get reception.

Classrooms are clean and evenly spacious between computer stations. There are bathrooms located on the 1st and 2nd floors and you need a key for both (men & women's)
