My short move within the city was a disastrous one with this company. The walk- through the house was done at the beginning to access the job yet 3 hours later I was told the move would not be completed because the two men had to leave to assist in another move. Severe storms were closing in, the humidity was 100%, temps in the mid-90's, I am 69. Furniture was still in the house, in the driveway of both residences and the men left with an apology and a shrug. They said a "dude said 75 boxes" (but I am a widow with no dude who spoke to the office) acting like it was my fault they could not finish the move. I was told I would have to move everything else myself as they were leaving. They left. Furniture was damaged as was a wall in the home. I paid the bill in full even though the job was not completed, furniture was left to be damaged in the severe storm and the sale of the home was dependent upon a specific time for me to be out of the house. I informed both the office and the 2 workers of this situation yet neither chose to complete the job, make an adjustment on a job not completed or offer a solution to the loss of the sale of my home. When I originally called Helpers, I did so because their ad indicated they moved pianos which I needed. I explained the size of the move and the 3 floors of furniture and boxes. Evidently the person who took the information left the company and the information, I was told, was not listed. I had to find another company to move the piano in a short time frame. Why the information on the size of the move was not shared is unknown to me but I began this process in May with full disclosure of my needs. When the move happened in mid-July, the move was a nightmare I hope no one ever experiences. read more

I agree the door problem was resolved because one of their employees happened to be in our town and came by. They did not remove the doors of the Refrigerator. They did not move us from a house it was a duplex and we moved everything except the furniture, frig and washer and dryer. They came into a straight open area through a 3 foot normal sized door. There was only one piece of furniture that would not fit because of arched doorways and we told them to just sit it elsewhere. From previous experience the move did take a very long time and I was under the impression from the movers, that they didn't have any other jobs so they stretched it out. They just helped me move from one apartment to another on Friday. I've moved several times as a college student over the last few years and this time I just didn't want to move everything myself so my boss told me about them. They did a great job! They moved us in on a Friday and we were the second scheduled move of the day with the original crew not even being able to make it since the customers before us decided to hit the crew with more furniture ETC than had been covered over the phone. (Many extras I assume) again, my name is Zach Dees and I have absolutely no affiliation with this company other than having paid for their services. So my only complaint is that time was nowhere near what we had scheduled. They were supposed to be here between noon and 1. They didnt arrive until 5:30. However I will not complain. The fellas that showed up here had just moved a gal from St. Charles to Cape Girardeau and the crew that we were supposed to get were still assisting another customer in Sikeston (Where we are located). I know. It's a pain in the ass when someone is 4 hours late. And I knew I would be paying them sink wasn't happy either. However, they showed up and did their job without bitching and were totally Cool about it. Yes. I have reason to bitch since they didn't show at the time we had planned. But shit happens and they were helping the customer before us. Blah blah. Long story short the company cut us a few deals since their clients suck and they had to deal with in and ya know, shit rolls down hill to us. But they showed up and worked their asses off until the job was complete. On top of it all they were very nice. And the price was definitely reasonable. Moving is the worst thing on the planet as far as I'm concerned. In a perfect world I give them 5 stars, or max stars. But since they were late (Not their fault) I can't give them 5. However, I loved the experience and I give them a thumbs up. Helpers in Cape Girardeau is an honest, amazing company. I will definitely use them again. Dont give these people any money for deposit or anything else till you get the final quote. They lure you in with a rate take your deposit money then say a manager will have to look at it and may change it. Then they call you back saying it will be twice as much as the quote and if you dont like it they keep your deposit. Never got to see if they are any good at moving or not. But shady business ethics will keep me away. read more

I've had The Helpers move furniture and all sorts of belongings 5 times from house to assisted living back to another house and then to storage on behalf of my aunt and uncle and them have done a superb job - very efficient and professional. Everything has arrived in perfect condition except for one small old chest and that was taken care of immediately. I will call them back again and again whenever I need something moved. I wouldn't recommend this company for anything other than what their main business appears to be, temporary toilet services. Had I not called to pester them about my truck rental reservation, I wouldn't have had my truck on the day reserved. The truck wasn't cleaned or checked over when I picked it up. They didn't have the blankets I reserved for my move but told me I could drive 30 miles to pick more up if I wanted them, while my pack-up was being done. I repeatedly asked if the movers were experienced, professional movers. They were not remotely professional or competent. Upon arrival, they told me the truck wasn't big enough for all my stuff. So, I set aside 1/2 a garage full of stuff that might be left behind if there wasn't enough room. While packing my stuff, I continually asked, suggested they secure the load with ropes and ratcheting bands that I had available. They told me not to worry. They ignored many requests for packing stuff in the sequence I asked for to make unloading efficient on the other side and to protect very valuable big-screen TVs. They through my stuff in the truck in a haphazard manner leaving much usable space unreachable. After they had packed all the stuff, other than what I had set aside because they said I didn't have enough room, they said they were done and I let them leave. They weren't listening anyway. Then, by myself, I unloaded nearly a third of the truck, repacked it and easily packed ALL the stuff left in my garage that they said wouldn't fit. My departure time was delayed by nearly a full day because of all this. Upon arrival, I had damaged furniture. The unloaders at my destination were appalled at the way the truck had been packed (except for the part I repacked and packed myself). They should stick to portable toilet maintenance. read more
