This is a blast in the past kinda place... the decor was super well done too. I have to say the signature cocktails are quite good but nothing bets there Grey Goose Gimlet. It was seriously the most delicious thing I have ever had... we were there a few weeks ago and our entire group is still raving about it! Delightful, everything about this experience is delightful. First, the drinks, I'm usually super finicky about drinks but I've tasted the entire menu and some off the menu and they all range from like to love. Close your eyes, pin the tail on the menu and enjoy. Second, the staff, super people! You can tell they really take their craft seriously and live to make sure you enjoy your experience. Third, the atmosphere, I'm a sucker for the mid modern look. My grandma has a shag carpet in the her basement well into this century and could give zero... well that kind of language wouldn't be in keeping with the theme. When we walked in I was immediately in awe from all the awesome 70s decor. We were treated at the door and told to sit wherever we wanted. There are different setti gs for different sized groups, from a 70s kitchen table to a full living room. My wife had the rosè on tap and I had the "off the record", which was very good and very strong which is why I'm guessing they can get away with a 12 dollar drink. read more

I came here for the first time right after it opened, and now a couple months later, I have a lot of different thoughts on Hello Marjorie. I came around the Holidays (running a bit late on my reviews) so all the Christmas-y themed interior was super homey and the overall ambiance definitely sways upscale. The drinks are pretty reasonably priced coming from the coasts but definitely more than the Iowa norm. However, I would say the drinks are definitely worth the price, each drink is creatively crafted and has a flavor and character of its own. I had a nutmeg-y Moscow mule (I forgot the name) but I think it might be the greatest drink I have ever had. I want to say it was called something like the "Christmas mule" and tasted like a pumpkin pie. It was fantastic, and I think I would be willing to drink it year round even with its Holiday twist. I look forward to coming back here since they rotate their cocktails outside of 1 or 2 meaning every trip back is different. As a youthful 21 year old, the other people definitely are on the older side (late 20s to early 30s). As long as you don't feel out of place as someone half a decade younger than everyone else, Hello Marjorie is a great bar to come to. read more

Mmmmm, the Marjorie. My husband & I included a stop here last night after our wedding. This seems to be a hot spot for wedding parties and post nuptial celebrations. The first time I visited, I met up with my girlfriends for Happy hour. We chilled on the couches and gabbed away. I appreciate the relaxed yet eclectic atmosphere. There are no televisions which really supports a conversation driven experience. Connecting and fun libations, what else is there? The only thing holding me back from 5 stars is that there are no specialty drinks with egg whites. I am a huge fan of fluffy, frothy drinks and with their drink menu and overall vibe, it would be a great addition. If I made a list of how to do Des Moines in a weekend, Hello Majorie would definitely make the cut. read more

Impeccable mid-century decor with an excellent cocktail menu. The vibe here is great! We ordered off an older menu that we found online, and the bartender was still able to make the drinks. What a great place for an after dinner drink! Girls had Bette Davis drinks and they were awesome. The hint of vanilla liqueur really enhanced the drink. The guys beers were good as well. The waitress brought a taste so one of them could decide. The decor is fun and kitschy. We had a good time looking at all the clocks and chairs and remembering where we'd seen them as kids. Went here on New Year's Eve. Our waitress was a wonderful, lovely girl who got me a free prosecco since, ironically, New Year's Eve is also my birthday. When I walk in I'm transported to my grandmothers house because the decor is retro. Each time I've gone there isn't many people there but before leaving the place is nearly packed. A cute cocktail bar set up to resemble a retro home. There's many living room areas, a fireplace near the dining room table, and multiple glass antique display cases for the bar. It's good sized space and we didn't have to wait long for a table to open up. We came in after a bachelorette party, but were helped fairly quickly. The cocktails were $10-12 on average and in addition there was a good variety on the beer menu, and wine on tap. The crowd was older than what you'd see on court avenue- more 30s and 40 yr olds. It was very loud, which is not conducive to conversation, but they're a bar and not a lounge-- so I can't fault them for it. read more

Wow I love this spot! The decor is amazing, really retro, but accurate to the time, not cheap knockoffs. The seating choices are plenty, which is so important for a bar, and the lighting isn't too dim. The cocktails are really good and not watered down. First I had the Bette Davis, which was a surprisingly tasty mix of vanilla and strawberry, and not sickly fake either. Next I had the G'Night Rae Wright, which was even better than the first, with homemade lemonade and fresh basil, I could drink this all day. Both were so refreshing, and really good for 9$. My friend got the Editor's Note, which was strong but well complimented with the fruit accents. The service was fantastic, we will definitely be back! read more
