I scheduled a service call for a propane fireplace that wouldn't light. The technician diagnosed a failed gas valve and quoted $1,620 to replace it. This was suspect for a number of reasons. First, the fireplace is 3 years old. Second, they would not guarantee that this would fix the problem and the part was not returnable. Third, after the technician gave me the part number, I looked it up and it was a $200 part. Nothing added up about this experience. I didn't feel confident in the diagnosis and got a second opinion. The second company (Energy Partners) found the actual issue: a bad thermopyle, replaced it while there, and the entire repair cost $225 including the service call. I shared these details and asked Hellgate to review their misdiagnosis and refund the $200 service fee, but they refused. This was a significant misdiagnosis with a nearly $2,000 unnecessary repair recommendation. This level of misdiagnosis undermines trust, and customers deserve far better. Needed the tank on a toilet replaced. Had one replaced a few years back, cost $275.Called two other places first, they were booked out, both quoted approximately $300. Called hellgate, they could be there the next day, I didn't ask for a price, they did the job, took 30 minutes...$601. Twice what everyone else charges. Absolute ripoff. Never deal with this company unless you've agreed on the bottom line price beforehand. read more

I thought my 30 year old furnace had died but turned out it was only sick. I called Hellgate at 7 am and by 11am the same day the furnace was up and running. Everyone I dealt with from the first phone call was helpful, knowledgeable and courteous. I expected a recommendation for a new furnace but was told mine had some more years in it. I expected the cost to be much higher for the repair so---Nice people, fast service and great pricing. I seldom write reviews like this but can't recommend them highly enough. read more

We wanted a water softener installed and one other minor plumbing item taken care of in the same visit. After having an estimate from another company in Missoula we were not happy with the quote given and they would not do the other plumbing work we needed. Then we called Hellgate Plumbing and they sent Jason out in a few days to look at the job. We had told them this was not urgent so we were fine with it taking a few days to get them here. Jason was extremely knowledgeable and easy to talk to. He said they would do both jobs in the same visit and they would have our quote to us later that day. As promised the quote came same day and was considerably less costly than the other company that did not include the other job we needed done. Zack came and did the job and just as Jason was, we found Zack to be great to work with. He was prompt, quick and extremely neat. I have already told 2 other people about our experience and will highly recommend Hellgate Plumbing to anyone needing plumbing work done. read more

Very disappointed; made an appointment nearly 2 weeks ago; gave very detailed instructions for address to the appointment gal and explained it was hard to find and was on the edge of cell phone service so she would pass the message onto the technician. She looked it up on google maps and said she found it and would let the tech know. This morning received a call 30 minutes after appointment time indicating the technician couldn't find the place and they couldn't come now because it would put them behind schedule. I can appreciate their concern for other customers, but they wasted our time (off work to meet them). There was a reason we gave specific directions and a phone number to call.
